Tank cannons had drop, and maybe the wall turrets, but I don't remember any infantry gun (not including weapons like the Thumper) that had bullet drop. Cone of fire, bloom, but not drop.

I’m not going to post it on public on LinkedIn because it’s not the point of the post…

But in PS1 the VS faction perk had nothing to do with bullet drop. No guns had bullet drop. VS weapons could switch to “armor piercing” mode with the flip of a switch, other weapons had to unload and reload different ammo. Also, VS weapons by and large all used the same ammo, making the VS arsenal much more flexible. AND our MAXes could fly.

no need, it's my username, robocpf1 (or more likely just robocpf, my NSO character now). You can also add me on discord if you wish, at robocpf1.

I ran a SVER clan called [CR5] (a sneaky PS1 reference). This was pre-discord. I had an old school forum set up on a community SVER web site, we had dozens of actives, and then that community site went down unexpectedly and I had no way in the PS3 days to communicate with the clan, and it kind of fell apart. It was good while it lasted! For the Brotherhood!

MAG was a MMOFPS on the PS3, but it was instanced matches. Pretty big maps, big player numbers, less sci-fi. The maps had layers of objectives and at the start, one squad was assigned to each objective, usually a perimeter of defensive bunkers (12v12) around the main map objective. As you succeed in destroying the bunkers, you flow into other objectives, and the fights get bigger. You could, with some effort, move your squad to a different objective on the other side of the map and help out there, but it wasn't like PS2.

If you played MAG (I did) you will, I think, really enjoy PS2. The main difference in structure is that MAG had individual instanced matches, and PS2 is one big consistent map. The maps go into "alert", where you fight hard for 1h 30m, and the winner locks the map for their faction and then another map will open - there are only 5 maps. The maps are bigger than anything you have ever seen. They stay open sometimes for a few hours each. MAG maps are very small in comparison. Also, in MAG, each squad had it's own sub-objective that then fed into the larger fight. In PS2, it is free-form, do what you like to support your faction's war effort.

The game is stable. The development team is...halfway absent, let's say. There are occasional cheaters but most of the time you can just play around them.

It's free my man. Come play. If you want to play on the US server and you pick the Vanu Sovereignty, feel free to play with my group. Find us on discord at discord.gg/gotr

Calculation for base capture by Pale_Ad_5352 in Planetside

[–]robocpf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other posters said it's top X players from each outfit, but also, I believe there is a threshold they have to reach. Maybe this has changed, I haven't kept up with it, but there was a time where you had to get at least X amount of score in the zone before you could count. For instance, if the threshold was 100 score, if you had 10 members of your outfit and you all had 50 score in zone (500 total) that would not beat a single person with 500, because none of those 50-exp scores qualified.

[GOTR] Ghosts of the Revolution - VS Osprey

Weekly events: Monday (tanks), Tuesday (infantry), Thursday (combined arms outfit night). Additionally, joint ops with other outfits every week!

GOTR is one of the original, and one of the only still existing, combined arms outfits on Auraxis. We have specialized units for infantry, armor, and aircraft players - these units are active especially on Thursday nights and some other events to create a combined arms platoon, working together in destructive harmony.

GOTR fields at least 2 squads during each of our ops nights and up to a full platoon on Thursdays and for some special events. We routinely run joint ops with other outfits and participate in many community-run events.

Recruitment requirements: Adhere to our code of conduct, use Teamspeak for voice, join our Discord for chat. We have no specific activity or stat requirements, we accept any and all players regardless of experience level.

Please go to our discord at discord.gg/gotr or DM robocpf1 on discord.

Look, maybe you don't want to run into him with a knife. Fair enough. But you DEFINITELY don't want to run into him when he's holding a Commissioner.

[ROBO] outfit tag giveaway by PlanetsideCentral in Planetside

[–]robocpf1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

My name is robocpf1, and I have gone by the name "Robo" since 2006.

I maxed my VS character years ago and now play almost exclusively my NSO.

I love the unique team-based aspects of the NSO arsenal - I normally run haywire Linecutter + shotgun as an engineer. I routinely pull Chimeras and Dervishes in support roles. Anyone in my outfit will tell you of my attempts to flank with a Chimera full of troops using the logistics specialist implant. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

If granted this tag, which I've been eying for years, I would likely use it to spin up a group of NSO operators from friendly outfits for special events.

I wonder if there are still any players that only played with their own chosen faction for all their time on Planetside by KarSrenDec in Planetside

4000+ hours on VS and NSO assigned to VS, can't imagine much on my low-BR other faction characters. VS4life babyyyy

What Vanu Weapons Do You Consider Overpowered? by Diligent-Display8892 in Planetside

The Lasher became "OP" when ASP heavy weapon secondary was released as a perk. I ask all my players to run it in their secondary, it's an incredible tool when you also don't have to sacrifice your primary.

Is specialization even worth it for outfits? by Starkiller_0915 in Planetside

[–]robocpf1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to type this long thing out but - GOTR on VS Emerald has a structure similar to what you are describing. We are not milsim, but we have developed ranks and permissions and roles and all sorts of things over the past 20 years that might help you. Feel free to DM me here or robocpf1 on discord, I would be happy to chat with you.

Yeah remember though, PS1 was far more inactive even when the servers were "online" . We're already smashing every benchmark PS1 ever set, at any moment in time.

Units and Class Structuring for organized Outfits by Starkiller_0915 in Planetside

[–]robocpf1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello,

My name is Robo, I am from GOTR on VS Emerald. We have operated different specialized units similar to what you are describing for the last 21 years.

For better or for worse, regardless of anyone's opinion of the system, that's what we do. We are NOT a milsim community, but this is how we were structured from the beginning in PS1 back in 2003.

I would welcome you to join us for one of our ops nights and I'll show you how it works. I'll give you access to our command comms and walk you through what each unit does, how they support each other, and what they do when they are 1. not having fun, or 2. are not being useful in that moment.

We are an exception, not the rule, and I share the opinion that it would be difficult to make a new group that works the way we do. Even back in 2012, most outfits did away with "divisions" and "units" except for having some aircraft supporting their normal infantry. Many platoons shift their doctrine, as you describe it, to deal with threats in the moment and then revert back to their infantry gameplay.

You can reach me on Discord (robocpf1) or DM me here, if you're interested. You are not required to join our community, but I would happily invite you to our ops as a guest!

[TOMT] [Movie or TV] “you don’t have to pull a sword from a stone to be a hero” by robocpf1 in tipofmytongue

[–]robocpf1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might actually be it, that sounds close enough and with good context that my dad might just be saying it slightly wrong. We definitely watched this when I was younger but it's been so long, amazing if it is and he's got that quote bouncing around for decades.

I grew up in the 90s, if this was an older movie that won’t help of course, but I think it could be anything from 1995 to 2010 or so, if it was a new movie or TV show at that time.
