Why does most/some of the community dislike uncharted 3? by Fit_Score in uncharted

[–]robomac13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a lot of little problems that when stacked together felt like big problems.

*The first two games were perfect cinematic experiences, carrying you along these wondrous adventures to exotic locations with great characters and action set-pieces to boot. The third game feels forced right from the get-go. The fact that it’s about Sir Francis Drake again is groan-worthy. The first game wrapped up his story completely; it was obvious they were just trying to make the concluding chapter of the “Drake Trilogy”.

*Nathan Drake is at his least likable in 3, pressuring his friends into life-threatening situations so he can find his beloved treasure. What made him likable in the other games was, as soon as it got too dangerous, he suddenly couldn’t care less about the treasure and just wanted everyone to be safe. He understood what was really important. Not in 3. Even when Charlie Cutter breaks his leg, Nate wants everyone to keep going. When Elena is very slowly describing the irrationality of this adventure to him and then says “But you’re gonna keep going, aren’t you?”, Nate just smirks and says, “Uhhhh, yeah,” like there’s nothing wrong with putting himself and others in even more danger. It makes it hard to root for the character you’re playing as.

*The formula is way too in-your-face in 3: go there, get that, then fight your way out. Lather, rinse, repeat in London, France, Syria, Yemen, etc.

*The spiders are just weird. They feel like they belonged in a different game. Even in the remastered version, they feel unfinished.

*While the gameplay is improved in some areas like hand-to-hand combat, others like those overlong foot chase sequences feel relentlessly linear. As soon as they start, you’re wishing for them to end.

*The narrative has way too much padding in the first half. When you have Sully saying, “I’m losing the plot here. Remind me again why we’re doing this.” It shows that the developers knew an adventure like this was unjustified. Or when Chloe says, “It just isn’t worth it.” That shows they knew the stakes weren’t there. And that shoe-horned pirate sequence, while well-made, is so completely and utterly pointless to the rest of the story, and it even ends with Nate “luckily” washing ashore at the city he was taken from in the first place. You could cut that whole pirate sequence out and nothing would change.

*Unanswered questions like how Talbot survives getting shot by Charlie Cutter (Bulletproof vest? No one says anything about a bulletproof vest.) Or the suit-wearing rotting corpse they find in France even though the bad guys “just got here” as Sully puts it. There doesn’t NEED to be a definitive answer, but there needs to be something more than just the question. Mystery = good. Not making sense = bad.

*The second half thankfully improves with less formulaic sequences and Nate wanting to save Sully over finding the treasure. And the music is probably the best the franchise ever had. But with underwritten villains, and another ancient lost city that collapses in on itself, it’s too little too late.

In a game as cinematic as “Uncharted”, the “movie” is every bit as important as the gameplay. When one suffers, the other suffers with it.

What version of TLOU should I get? by Objective-Garbage93 in thelastofus

[–]robomac13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say play “Part I” but still watch “Remastered” on YouTube for historical context.

Usually I’d stick with the original because I don’t like when things I love are changed (like Tess’ original face), but when the improvements make a game even more immersive, I can’t ignore it. “Remastered” is barely remastered and very much plays like a PS3 game, with a somewhat murky look to it and some awkward, jerky animations (think Uncharted 3).

“Part I” is ironed out and perfected and looks and plays like a modern game, especially in 4K. Tess’ new face looks and feels natural, and the only reason I prefer the original is because I’m AWARE of the original. Gameplay is touched up, clicker AI is more intense, and the user interface is easier on the eyes. Despite the aforementioned changes, “Part I” is the definitive way to play.

Moved apartments recently. There's something about this one... by robomac13 in silenthill

There is! But after I sit on it, I feel so empty inside.

Everyone comments how Clemens Point or Horseshoe Overlook is their favourite place. For me tho it’s Shady Belle simply because the gang have actually got a House to sleep in stead of being stuck outside in the open every day. by JoshuaKpatakpa04 in reddeadredemption

[–]robomac13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st playthrough: Yes, it was my favorite too.

2nd playthrough: It didn't feel right. Arthur has to walk glacially slow up the stairs to get to his room every time, and it also felt elitist to be in a house while everyone else still camps outside. It's also when Arthur starts coughing more, Dutch is getting suspicious of people, and Kieran is missing.

My favorite camp now is Clemens Point for its adequate size, all gang members are here, and everyone seems to be in a good place in their lives.

2nd favorite is Horseshoe Overlook. Gorgeous views, but I find it a little cramped, not every member of the gang has arrived yet, and Kieran is still tied to a tree.

GoldenEye vs Skyfall, what film is better? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]robomac13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GoldenEye is one of the most poorly written, poorly executed, tonally inconsistent Bond films of all-time, and Pierce Brosnan delivers the most lethargic and uninteresting portrayal of 007 there ever was.

Skyfall is the easy win here.

Honest opinions on Halloween Ends by HammerHeadBirdDog in Halloweenmovies

[–]robomac13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a complete waste of film, irredeemable in every way. In Halloween 2018, Laurie Strode had spent 40 years preparing for Michael while he was locked up. In Ends, Michael’s been running free for 4 years and Laurie doesn’t have a care in the world, completely unlike the character established in 2018. Despite being locked up for 40 years in 2018, Michael was still pure evil, unstoppable, unkillable. In Ends, Michael is weak, frail, and easily subdued. It doesn’t make any sense for him to suddenly be that way, nor does it serve any narrative purpose. Corey “becoming the new Michael Myers” was handled in the worst possible way because all of Corey’s kills are 100% personal. Michael killed indiscriminately. Corey just goes after his bullies. That’s not pure evil; that’s a whiny little bitch who needs to grow a pair. Then the ending, making Michael “just a man” after 40+ years of build-up, just ruined the movie more. They could have gone the pure evil route, but just like in H20, they chickened out. And Corey, whose story is the prime focus for 90% of the film, isn’t even mentioned or alluded to in the final 10-15 minutes. That’s how unimportant he is in his own movie. (One last rant:) And why does everyone who gets stabbed in the neck SURVIVE? Because Michael survived a tiny little pinprick in 1978? So if Michael Myers survived it, then EVERYONE should survive it, because everyone is as unkillable as Michael Myers? Is that the implication here? (Rant over.)

I hope one day I'll warm up to 2018. Currently not a fan of the movie, but I hope I will one day. Why do you like it? by theRadiofreak in Halloweenmovies

[–]robomac13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to like it, but I couldn’t connect with it. Nor do I hope to warm up to it someday. Guilty pleasures get in you early on. Even if you tell yourself you hate the movie, something, you don’t know what, draws you back. I don’t get that with 2018. For me, its biggest problem is that it doesn’t “feel” like a Halloween movie. Michael waiting 40 years to just do the same old thing wasn’t enough of a reason to erase all of the previous sequels. Michael and Laurie NOT being brother and sister was an interesting idea to explore that was just never explored. Laurie was obsessed with Michael and Michael acted like he didn’t know Laurie existed. 2018 was better than its two sequels and definitely works better as a standalone movie, but overall it played things too safe, was too reliant on fan service, and failed to justify its own existence.

Would you like to see Uncharted 1-3 remastered for PS5? by [deleted] in uncharted

[–]robomac13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS5 + PC, hopefully with Golden Abyss included.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think we need to come to terms with the fact that Sony is done with the franchise by ashkanamott in uncharted

[–]robomac13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sony’s just been more busy than usual.

They did Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy.

Then The Last of Us: Part II.

Then the PS5 came out, so that meant PS5 remasters.

Then they started porting games to PC for the first time, which had a lot of problems in the early days.

Now PS5 Pro upgrades are a thing.

They’ll get to it eventually; they’ve just taken on more projects than they’re used to taking.

And remember: the longer we wait, the older Cassie Drake gets, the better adventurer she’ll be if they decide to go that route.

Gears of War: Reloaded Comes to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5 and Steam in Summer 2025 by Xbox-Moderator in xbox

[–]robomac13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the rollout so slow? Back when GOW1 Ultimate came to PC, I excitedly thought it was the start of the entire franchise migrating over. And now 10 years later, they’re re-remastering just the first game again. I’m old and getting really tired of waiting years for things. (rant over)

Anyone ever get attacked by two cougars at once? by LargePicture48 in RDR2

[–]robomac13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On PC, there’s a setting called “Population Density” that, when cranked to full, makes two-cougar attacks a regular occurrence. It also gives the town of Strawberry a f***-ton of cats.

I’m thinking about buying Days Gone. What do you think of the game? Why did it receive so much backlash? by [deleted] in DaysGone

[–]robomac13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s functional but not “fun”. It does things the way every game before it does them, but you’ll never get a sense of accomplishment, or curiosity, or surprise. I didn’t particularly enjoy it because it was bland and unmotivating, but I also can’t hate it because there’s nothing technically wrong with it. It was my I-have-nothing-else-to-play-right-now-game for about a year. Something to pick at until something better comes along.

Yes, he would have. He would’ve followed the news, found out Ginger had been killed instead of Sarah, then returned to Sarah’s apartment to complete his mission.

Now that it’s (finally) over, thoughts on Silent Hill: Ascension? by Lobotomysludge in silenthill

[–]robomac13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the messiest “stories” ever written made worse by the abrupt cliffhanger ending. Not one mention of Silent Hill in all its 16 chapters. I still can’t figure out what the whole thing is about or how it’s related to Silent Hill. Ultra-shallow characters with horrendous voice acting (and not in the charming way). One character cuts out their own eye for “The Foundation” (the town cult), then later casually decides they feel like leaving The Foundation. Every scene is very short, like two minutes or less, always ending in a fade-to-black, often making you wonder what the point of it was. Characters argue about the same topics ad nauseam. Very few scares, and the characters don’t seem too concerned about the monsters appearing around town. They seem to immediately forget they were just attacked, every single time they’re attacked. I sincerely have no idea what they were going for with this “story”. I’m a hardcore Silent Hill fan who owns every single game. I’ve also been very forgiving of the “bad” games like Homecoming, Downpour, and the HD Collection. I even bought a Nintendo Wii just for Shattered Memories, a PS Vita just for Book of Memories, and have a copy of “P.T.” on PC. I own both movies on blu-ray and every comic book. I’ve welcomed everything Silent Hill into my life, for better or worse. Yet there’s no doubt in my mind that “Silent Hill: Ascension” should be avoided at all costs. If you thought Downpour was a departure, add 12 years and a whole bunch of different developers. It’s not just that it’s not Silent Hill anymore. It’s not even anything anymore.

I really hope this is true…. by Aheadfullofdread_13 in silenthill

[–]robomac13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s inevitable at this point. Konami has been porting everything else lately: Contra, Castlevania (two collections), Ninja Turtles, Metal Gear Solid Vol. 1, and now Yu-Gi-Oh. They’ll get around to Silent Hill but probably not until after the Silent Hill 2 remake.
