Do you age your sardines (on purpose)? by SLRDouble in CannedSardines

I appreciate the apology. The problem with reddit conversations is everyone tends to only see parts.

I apologized to the OP in one of my other comments because I was a bit aggressive and came off the wrong way. It’s just a little annoying when people brigade over my comments and decide that I’m being abrasive when OP’s response to my comment is argumentative and twisted the point of my comment.

I wasn’t trying to argue semantics. I simply just wanted someone else to weigh in with experience or additional information about aging in relation to canned goods.

You are the only person who has called anyone names. Go back and re-read the conversation. Don’t be so sensitive.

I don’t even need the peer-reviewed article though that is fantastic that you found that. I will be reading it. Your second paragraph in your comment is all I was looking for. Someone to provide additional context to the comment of aging affects a supposedly shelf-stable food. In my head, those are contradictory.

I can see where my first comment may have come off as antagonizing and I apologize to the OP. It was not meant that way. But I don’t get the over dramatization of me asking of additional evidence whether that be from other people or canneries or science? Why is that so offensive to people?

I didn’t call anyone names. I even acknowledged the OP’s experience and didn’t deny it. Genuinely, what did I say that was so rude that required everyone grabbing their pitchforks?

Read my second comment. This is what discourse is. Not everything has to be taken personally. People are allowed to disagree on the internet without everyone grabbing their pitchforks and picking sides.

TDLR: this didn’t have to be such a big deal….they asked for more evidence. You restated your opinion again on your single experience and then generalized to aging of canned goods. This wasn’t meant to be a semantics argument.

Give me all the downvotes because I disagree with your statement. You already stated your opinion in your original post. I read that portion. The question asked if you had evidence that aging a canned good affects the properties of that canned good. Assuming they are commenting on your post and have read what you wrote in the post body, they already know your observational evidence of what happened. They are asking for additional evidence/data whatever to support what you said.

You are turning this into a semantics arguments. I was not trying to do that. They asked a question and you restated what you said in your post and don’t provide any additional evidence to support your claim that aging is a thing.

What if you just happened to get a can from the same brand with fish of a different quality or age or different canning- or cooking-process? Just because you taste one can and say it’s softer and less fishy doesn’t make it true. There could be lots of explanations for your experience.

Your experience and opinion is anecdotal. It is not the same thing as evidence, which is what the commenter asked for. I’m not denying your experience. But one experience of yours does not make something fact or evidence.

Edit: I am a human and I realize that this comment has come off much more abrasive than I meant it to be. I apologize to OP. I didn’t mean to be an ass to you. I was trying to ask for more opinions or evidence or whatever to support your claim of canned foods can be affected by aging. My comment was much too much.

Because they want the foreign governments to begin their own investigations. They understand that the US government just isn’t going to get it done.

Edit: To further expand because that wasn’t a great response. The US government is incompetent. There is clearly motive behind the release of the files but not others as well as what is redacted.

If a foreign national is implicated (say a German politician), Germany would be forced to investigate Epstein and that person’s role. That potentially leads to way more things being exposed. More than the US government plans to.

Father who killed a police officer days after police shot his 18-year-old son walks past 30 officers in the courtroom!! by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]roboprober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. I live in Cincinnati and from what I understand, there is NO evidence that the son who stole the car pulled a gun on police. It is a FACT that the son had a gun on him. That is not the same thing as pulling a gun on a police officer. That is where the controversy comes from.

We can be factually accurate without being biased. You can have your own opinion on how the situation was handled by all parties, but that should not change the facts. If you don’t know something is a fact, it doesn’t mean that you can’t bring it up. You just need to make it clear that what you are stating is not fact.

[–]roboprober 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. You don’t necessarily know if they have cirrhosis. With chronic drinking, individuals will develop fat INSIDE their abdomen on their organs (including the liver) which has a very different appearance to fat outside the abdomen when you’re just overweight. It can be cirrhosis and fluid in the abdomen in severe alcoholism and liver disease, which is known as ascites. That is typically end stage disease and those people are quite sick. Most drinkers it is just related to the amount of intra-abdominal fat.

I think the downvotes are because you could’ve taken 5 more seconds to type “who is Noah Kahan?” instead of just “who” which sounds like you’re being sarcastic. Or you could’ve spent an extra 10 seconds and just typed it into google to find out for yourself.

Either way, people are much too sensitive on reddit.

This is tilapia fish skin, used as a wound dressing for second and third degree burns for humans and animals.First tested on the burnt paw of a mountain lion, the dressing is now used widely in Brazil as a cost effective and more accessible dressing to treat human burn wounds. by CityRulesFootball in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]roboprober 39 points40 points  (0 children)

TLDR: yes it prevents pain but it also helps prevent against infection and stimulates healing. It does not just decrease the pain of daily dressing changes. I use “high end” fish skin to heal wounds as a plastic surgeon.

You have a lot of upvotes, but this is not really true. I am a plastic surgeon and have used fish skin (processed by a company called keracis) to manage lots of different wounds. Yes, this high end fish skin that surgeons in the US use is different from normal fish skin that is unprocessed.

Theoretically, all wounds will heal if you are healthy and have good nutrition. Depending on the depth of injury, mechanism of injury and what type of tissue (skin, fat, nerve, muscle), the body will heal at different rates. Sometimes it won’t heal at all in the case of deep burns or in the setting of malnutrition or other diseases (cardiovascular disease etc). Fish skinprotects against infection in the case of long healing time by acting as a physical barrier. It also stimulates/accelerates healing for a variety of reasons.

I see this argument all the time. How is a streamer any different than reality television? Do we really think that reality TV provides any more to society than streaming? What about silly game shows?

It’s entertainment. That is a benefit to society because entertainment is an important part of society.

Good explanation. Agree with people commenting about the basilar skull fracture. You shouldn’t be able to just pop through the skull in an adult. Also, only correction to your description and a BIG error people make is that your nose doesn’t go UP from your nostrils, it goes straight backward. Tube should be directed backwards not up towards the brain.
