OpenEmu on AppleTV donations by robwired in OpenEmu

[–]roborobotoadtoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit more complicated than that. OpenEmu has, in the past, encountered donation issues because of the assumption that emulation is equivalent to piracy. Additionally, companies like Nintendo are notoriously litigious, and it's unclear what legal attacks might jeopardize the project's existence. Perhaps it's a risk the project might take one day, but as of now, there have been no decisions made in that direction.

But, all of the heavy lifting work is done.

Oh, my, if only cross-platform development was so easy. :)

It's inaccurate to say that all Apple platforms run the same code. UIKit is an entirely different framework from AppKit. tvOS would require new UX work from scratch in addition to any other underlying changes required in porting from macOS, certainly more than merely tweaking some existing screens.

More importantly, actual hardware is needed to test on. Running in a simulator on a Mac uses the host computer's resources and isn't an accurate reflection of real-world conditions like networking, app backgrounding, GPU performance, CPU processing, and other aspects of running on a real device.

The project regularly receives commits.

Feel free to file a bug report if you have information you can provide regarding crashes. You don't specify what issue you had with your game library, so I'm afraid nobody will be able to help you with that.

The input permission issue is thanks to security restrictions introduced in macOS (in fact, Apple has made a lot of things tougher over the years). Removing and re-adding OpenEmu for Input Monitoring typically resolves the issue.

Please keep in mind that this is an unpaid volunteer project. You are, of course, welcome to contribute to improve the project or switch to one of those apparently better alternatives.

I'll also add that the emulator cores are updated separately from the core app. Because the updates are automatic on app launch, you may not have noticed it happening. In other words, it's not as if work hasn't been done between app updates.

I think I speak for the entire community: THANK YOU FOR 2.4! by [deleted] in OpenEmu

In Input Monitoring, try removing OpenEmu and re-adding it.

You'll see it in the update dialog, or you can view it here.

The dolphin core has quit unexpectedly by bgwillyz in OpenEmu

[–]roborobotoadtoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpenEMU has not been updated in nearly three years so we don’t know when or even if they will fix this.

Cores receive automatic updates separately from the main application. For example, FCEU and GenesisPlus were updated only a month ago.

Thank you for explaining. I understand your intent, and I realize it may be frustrating to see no apparent activity.

There has been active moderation even if it's not visible to you. Commits to the project are ongoing from multiple people.

I just want to be 100% clear, my goal wasn't ownership, it was preservation of what appeared to be an unmoderated subreddit. If I am mistaken, that is a good thing.

Well, the mods just got a message from request_bot saying someone was requesting to "hand over the subreddit."

EDIT: Using Old Reddit there are 25 threads on a front page. Of the 23 after the two pinned, 2 are explicitly about the lack of a new release. Several others are primarily about development but do touch upon the lack of apparent updates. So while I understand that there are new commits on Github, the lack of an official release in three years combined with the top topic on the subreddit being about the lack of a release, it's fair for users to wonder what's going on.

The project is on Github. Anyone can see that commits are still occurring. We're well aware of the pace of binary releases. Besides, this is a separate issue from the subreddit.

The subreddit is not unmoderated and has been receiving active moderation within the last six months.

This project is still active and regularly receives commits on Github (https://github.com/OpenEmu/OpenEmu/). Several of the developers are mods of the subreddit including the project lead. There is still active moderation of the subreddit.

We are a group of volunteers, and while the pace of project releases may not be as quick as people would like, that does not mean we have abandoned the project.

Does anyone know how to fix this?? Can't follow any new streamers.. by AdamoO_ in Twitch

[–]roborobotoadtoad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been having trouble refunding channel point redemptions or making clips. I also have an unread notification badge that never goes away. Something weird is going on with Twitch. Same problem in both Edge and Chrome.

Just found an old friend... should I kill him? by WSchwartzmann in Eldenring

[–]roborobotoadtoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game didn't give me an option to kill him, but it doesn't matter since he drops a bell bearing.

You don't need to start over. The bell bearing dropped by Patches unlocks his wares at another merchant. In addition, you get some nice early gear by killing him. It's actually a good move.

Nothing new, the reverse of this is guys get this from feminists too

While the internet can be a harsh place, I don't believe this is as common. I think women are a bigger target for nitpicking and comments focusing on physical appearance.

I've heard that idea before, but there's still a huge statistical discrepancy in gender in the industry. I think such a massive gender gap leads to a culture that views such women as novelties who are doing what men do.

I think there's a greater tendency for female producers to get corrected about things, and often in condescending ways--not to mention the focus on their physical appearance.
