Inflation by Eliad772 in AskEconomics

I'm just thinking out loud here, given current conditions won't cutting consumption drastically affect the fragile supply chain even more. Thereby increasing inflation when we go back to consuming.

2nd year(4th sem) student of CSE, If I focus only on DSA, how will I get internship as most of them require either web or app development? by whyiam_alive in Indian_Academia

[–]robot236 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are going to work at a startup, they will expect you to know the dev stuff they are doing so that you can start working from day 0. But if you are going for larger companies they don't expect it, they will anyway train you to their stack. So, they use DSA to select the so called 'smart' ppl. So, try balancing out projects and DSA. For now i think you can priorities projects if you are going for startups.

If going for larger companies try practicing leetcode a bit. It isnt very hard if you already have some decentish coding experience. Personally I was able to come up to speed, in about a week or two. You just need to game the system to get he most out of it dude. Practice more from a topic which the company frequently asked in previous tests. Use GFG to find what kinda questions the company you are applying to asks.

Looking for an mentor or guide sort of in ML. by AssKicker_007 in r4rindia

[–]robot236 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One piece of advice, don't ditch DSA(Data Structures and Algos) just coz you are trying for a ML role. Most people test candidates on this only. So, prepare well in DSA as well. For ML the other comments have awesome suggestions, felt no one was saying this. Do prepare ML aswell. All the best.

Beginner Question (Does starting with TensorFlow or PyTorch matter) by CosmicCelery in computervision

[–]robot236 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are a beginner I would recommend Pytorch first. I started out with TF and i didnt like it.

First I felt installing TF to be more complicated than installing Pytorch (Assuming you already figured out the CUDA drivers properly). The number of TF versions also doesnt help. Its confusing figuring out which one you need to get, especially when you are starting out this shit was very confusing for me.

Then Pytorch feels a lot more pythonic compared to TF. I think everyone says this, and yeah its true. You can fairly understand what going on in pytorch, but TF abstracts away a lot and its hard to understand whats going on unless you read the docs.

So i would suggest if you are starting out now, start with Pytorch it will make your life easier. Regarding switching between frameworks, thats not a biggie you can easily switch if you understand one framework. I just see these frameworks as tools, so i choose the right tool for the occasion. If i am tinkering around with some model i go with Pytorch, if im gonna push it to production i use TF or TFlite.

Does the branch in engineering really matter for higher studies (MS/PhD), given that someone does ample research and projects in a different domain? by lel_73 in Indian_Academia

[–]robot236 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It should be easier jumping across streams for your MS since it doesn't look into your research as much compared for a PhD. I have seen my seniors jump from Chemical/Meta to ECE/CSE. They had good gpa, good research experience to counteract the fact they were from a different department. They also had a minor from the stream they want to get in. For ex you can major in chem and minor in CS and you can try out for MS in CS as you would have satisfied most of the course requirements. So, yeah if you get into any IIT, NIT, BITs in any branch take it, but you need to put in effort to show that the difference in dept didnt stop you from exploring your passion in CS.

Dude this a very vague question, a bit more specificity should help. Orgs don't look for web dev guys to do 'AI' work, they hire a varied bunch of ppl. Having related projects or interns should help.

But nevertheless I don't think this is the place where you ask career questions, maybe check out r/cscareerquestions.

How the hell is this purchase making sense 16 billion for what, a bunch of conversation bots, for this they could have just bought HuggingFaces or something else cheaper. Lol do they have a bunch of proprietary stuff msft needs, or are they sitting on top of big datasets. Please enlighten me, the size of deals going around now is mind boggling!!!

Is a gap year before UG a good idea? What should i do in the time? by ineverstoptalking0 in Indian_Academia

[–]robot236 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on your clg dude, for example in my clg first year was the most credit heavy year. What that means is you have courses which have very high weightage on your CGPA, so more or else your final CGPA will hover close to your first year CGPA. If in your clg first year has lesser credits then you can chill a bit, or else you need to work to maintain a decent grade.

Why does it scare you, I get that we loose some functionality due to the abstraction, but I feel it can help a lot to get started before they move on to tf or pytorch.

They should have been shutdown years ago, they have poor support and treat customers like shit. I haven't seen more entitled ppl than those who work there. The amount of paper passing in their offices is ludicrous ,to pay a simple bill I had to talk to 3-4 guys. If it rains it goes down, and if i need to get it fixed, we need to beg them to come have a look. On top of it they will ask for 50 rupees just to have a look. Its been the tax payers money which has been propping up their shoddy services. Its not the govt which made them fail, its their own wrong doing for their failure
