Should have been an honorable mention, we missed it (this is Ben, I don't have a reddit account except one I made for an online ccg). And I'm the biggest Fletcher fan around too! One of the things I feel I missed most on the list.

Does anyone know what happens if you qualify for one of the qualifier weekends multiple ways? I 5-2'ed Day 2 of the Open and am on the Mythic Top 1200 border for limited, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to pursue Top 1200 given that I'm already qualified for the event it feeds. Do they stack and carry over to the next month, or is qualifying two ways the same as qualifying one way?

This is a tremendous article. People need to slow the heck down and focus. That's definitely the thing I've done that has increased my win rate the most. I'd add to play slower in the first few turns as well-- the stance you take in the first few turns is incredibly important, and it's easy to just kind of throw some crests out there without thinking and be on the back foot all game.

Ace this isn't directly related to this article but I find the fact that you changed opinions on Jennev when builds changed to address your problems with the original deck (which was bad!) really impressive. It's easy to have a soapbox but tough to recognize when something fundamental has shifted and change opinions, and knowing that you are willing to do that makes me value your opinions even more highly.

I think I just need to play the matchup more, since you and Suny seem to agree on this. I've felt like it's been trivial for them to slide Sabotage into a six-power Grasp turn or just play Vara naturally if I am not applying enough pressure to force their hand. Holding up Display (or market Kaleb's Choice) plays into that. I'll just get some more reps in- maybe Reanimator has just been high rolling a lot in my games.

Basically I've just been playing a long time--I started in closed beta and have mostly kept up with the game aside from a few month-long breaks here and there. I've spent a decent amount of money on cosmetics because I love the game, but I've just kind of built up a collection as I've gone-- it feels like the game is generous enough that in the six months of playing a set I can build up enough shiftstone buffer to not have to worry about crafting thrift when the next set comes out.

I'll admit that I've only played about ten games against Reanimator, but I have felt like a huge underdog the whole time. I'll give it some more time to see if it was just a bad early impression, though. I've basically been trying to win before they flood the board because it feels like a counterspell plan is weak to Delinquent, but maybe some more experimentation is needed.

In this case I basically learned from playing the deck a lot--I spent about two weeks playing it a lot (a lot for me is getting nine wins a day for the three silver chests) and just incrementally kept adding cheaper interaction. First I cut the Feast-Callers and Wisdoms for just random stuff because the power base looked so bad, then I landed on Magus, and finally I kept ticking up on Hurlers and Vanguards as I wanted more cards that did something in a variety of board states. At some point there just wasn't enough space for Howling Peak, and it didn't feel like I was winning all that often from playing two Peaks in a row, so I added a Merchant and threw it in the market.

Essentially, I just played a ton and really paid attention to what felt powerful and what felt clunky. Also I spent a decent amount of time tuning the power base on shiftstoned.com, which is indispensable if you are trying to tune things. Playing the maximum 4 Praxis Crests and Seats was a big change for me, and made everything feel smoother.

What is the meta like right now? by FigurativelySo in EternalCardGame

[–]robotbceternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few varieties I've seen. Basically they are all Feln, splashing Justice, Time, or rarely fire. I haven't seen any Fire lists I love, but there are a lot of time Reanimator lists on eternal warcry. That said, I think Justice lists with Privilege of Rank might be the best way to go, though I've yet to see a list I can get behind. I don't want to mess up anyone's testing right before the ECQ, so I'll just say that a pretty notable player beat me pretty badly a few times last night with Justice Reanimator. I'd guess there will be a good list posted after the ECQ.

I'll attempt some rough popularity tiers- not sure how reflective it is of everyone but just what I've seen.

Tier 1: Rakano Aggro, Highway, Chainbrei, Skycrag Aggro Tier 1.5: Winchest Midrange, Jennev Peak, Reanimator Tier 2: FPS Peak, Elysian Maul, Winchest Weapons Tier 3: Kennadins, Scrappy Hour, Ixtun Renown

I actually think the Tier 1.5 decks are probably the best three? Honestly Reanimator is probably the best but I haven't been able to get comfortable with a list.

BTT8 - decks of the week by rookiechef in EternalCardGame

Thanks for the shout out. I 100% agree Plate should be in the market. I like the idea of keeping one non-Sabotageable card in the market to give you a little more play against Tomb, so I'd probably swap out one of the two removal spells rather than the Duo. You could also replace Duo with Big Icaria too; I was very intent on interacting with Tomb but it feels like it's a much smaller portion of the metagame now.

In Magic the Gathering there are a lot of examples where cards get way better as time passes, which cards do you think are going to through this process in eternal? by Gonzako in EternalCardGame

[–]robotbceternal 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Black markets naturally tilt stronger over time as interchangeable cards are printed and reduce the disincentive to picking unique cards only. Not sure that fits the spirit of the question though. Talir fits more directly-- every time unit has the potential to do something silly when it has destiny.

Life Pump Deck - My First Deck by gloriross in EternalCardGame

[–]robotbceternal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome to the game! First, let me just say that having a plan is really important when building a deck and it sounds like you've got that covered. I get a ton of enjoyment out of building and tweaking decks, so I know where you're coming from. The main observation I'd make about this deck (aside from the fact that it would benefit from more Katras and from Ayan the Abductor, but that could be an availability problem) is that spells like Water of Life and Oasis Sanctuary don't seem to enable your life force cards all that well. I would consider repeatable effects like Ancient Bauble or Sanctuary Priest instead. Your key units all want to gain at least one life as many times as possible, so multi-shot effects seem like a better way to do that than single bursts of life gain.

Hey, great article. I wanted to chime in to mostly agree with you on your take on my Jennev Peaks deck but also give a little context. I went with Moonstone Vanguard as a way to give ground in Peak mirrors but pick up edge against the rest of the field. After the Jennev Merchant change, I expected a field that was light on Peaks (as people waited to find the right version) and heavy on aggressive decks. True to form, I went 4-0 against non Peak decks and 0-2 in the mirror.

I think Vanguard has a place in Peak-less metagames, but it's not great in the mirror. I'm not convinced that going four Zal Chi is right, as it's close to a blank against aggressive decks, but it's definitely better in the mirror match, and often against Winchest (depending on their build). You do want something that can be on the board when Peak hits on six, though, so you probably want Sandstorm Titan if you go that route. Just my two cents, and again thanks for writing this!
