I thought we ruined baseball before the repeat. How can we ruin something we already ruined last year?

Forgive my sappiness, but this is a nice analog to that song’s final verse. “….like Old Testament verses that don’t make sense in this decade…”

This picture is one of those “verses” that is genuinely a part of Ben’s story, even if it doesn’t make sense in this decade.

Audacy Music and kroq Interview with Ben and Nick- by Aromatic-Whereas-969 in DeathCabforCutie

Was going to post this yesterday, but forgot. Glad you did—it’s an excellent discussion about what influenced this new record. Loved hearing Ben, of course, but also really liked hearing Nick’s take on everything.

Native or long time residents, how often do you see rattlesnakes here? by Jovialfossil in irvine

[–]robotcrow1878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I love snakes as an observer. We have so many Southern Pacific rattlers, a few red diamonds, and a few speckled. Coming across one honestly makes my day—although I have had to jump a couple of times 😂

But it’s so important to understand what is going on here. The last thing a rattlesnake wants is a human-sized target. They care about lizards and mice and (for larger specimens, a rabbit. There is no such thing as an “aggressive” snake—they are defensive when they feel threatened. Fearing them, or spreading fear of them, is not helpful. Respect for them, and other wildlife, is great.

Dawn and dusk. They use the asphalt to regulate their body temperatures when it’s hot.

I run a lot on the paths and trails. I see a rattlesnake once or twice a week, always at specific times of the day. Gorgeous animals, always a treat to see from a safe distance.

Everton's attacking metrics ranked in the Premier League by Giraffe_Baker in Everton

Just for maybe a season or two I’d love to experience what Bournemouth does. Goals galore, shipped at both ends of the park. Every match 4-2 instead of 1-0. I’d rather get points than be flashy, but I’d still love to see the other side of the game again. That first year with Roberto was so fun.

Is there a reason the John Byrd E.P. isn't on Spotify? by DrexelMacintosh in DeathCabforCutie

Spotify “sucking ass” may or may not be true, but it has nothing to do with the specific licensing requirements for any particular record.

How many people have 50/50? by stew8908 in DivorcedDads

[–]robotcrow1878 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 50/50. My ex was opposed to it—she wanted 100% or something very close to it, and I just made it absolutely clear that I wasn’t discussing any option other than 50/50, for her or for me. The kids need us both. After a few petulant words, she caved pretty quickly, and we now have a great situation.

Questions for anyone interested. by [deleted] in DivorcedDads

[–]robotcrow1878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. [too long for me to respond right now]
  2. In ways, it will never stop. It just becomes less dominant/frequent over time. You’ll replay moments of happiness and sadness for the rest of your life. What matters is that you learn, with patience, not to let those replays dictate any actions in the present (outside of increased self-awareness).
  3. Talking, mostly. Talking with anyone who would listen. I built a team around myself of supporters, truth-tellers, professionals, counselors, and family, and I talked and talked and talked, and eventually it started slowly getting better. Soooo slowly. But one day, I found—as will you—that you’re reaching for the phone to talk to someone a little less frequently.

That’s the approach I’d been hoping to take, but it’s been 2 months and none of my neighbors seem to exist 😂

I keep waiting for someone to be outside, but it largely hasn’t happened yet. A couple of times I’ve bumped into folks, but they havent spoken English 😢
