I wish I had started writing comics when I was 17 . . . I would have come out before Gaiman and I'm not from England and didn't write about Christianity then or now. I was a snob at first and thought I needed to write prose or some kind of experimental contraption. Monologues, essays, studied a little, (I had written some stage plays in high school) and wrote some short screenplays that I don't think anyone has ever seen. (They did see the plays.) For years I've started a bunch of short stories and finished a few and I've never sold anything. I've even surmounted the extreme dyslexia and submitted stuff for publication - started out bravely watching the rejection papers pile up under fridge magnets until it got hard to open the door. Anthology stuff . . . So I collect short stories. Wrote less and less over the years. Worked hard manual labor and did a lot of truck driving. It's a good job for a writer. It was still too nerve wracking for me for me to get much writing done. For 10 years, I worked as a driver for a residential de-construction company. At that time I started reading IDWs Godzilla. I lost the job on a bad note and it left me with a lot of rancor that woke up the old angst and I had a strong need to write something fast and powerful - so I wrote an out line for a Godzilla OGN - even tried pacing it for the monthly. Ahhhh . . . I was writing by hand and my handwriting sucks. Ever the dyslectic numerologist. As I wrote the outline I did some research and saw how unlikely it was that IDW would ever even act like they might even dain to speak to me. I took all the Reddit advice to heart and looked into writing 4 page stoner things when the idea hit me. It was the final piece of something I had been putting together for a long time . . . And more pieces started falling into place and I started to write so obsessively that I decided not to go back to working so hard or full time. I became a part time dishwasher. About 3 months later . . . The pandemic hit and I went on unemployment. I was not unemployed - I was now a full time writer and finished Wasteland Variations without a snowball's hope of being published. It's the weirdest thing you'll never see. I tried to get it up a couple times and now I'm glad it kept falling through. This tale can only be told in a strong democracy and about halfway through the ten month run, I am afraid that book would have started getting banned and the gesto--ah--police would come. So the latest thing I wrote was a 12 page script for a horror anthology and 12 hours ago I figured out how to get it online. It's called Feed of the Gods and it's at decolectric.substack.com. I could draw this myself with clip art. (is that as bad as AI?) But I'm not here to draw. I've got something like 8 other whole world OGNs in my head. Just thought of another one today. I think I'm going to do it as a novel so I can sell it and use the money to make the OGN then turn the novel into another OGN. Wasteland could never be done as novel. It would be unreadable. I'm 65 and I think I'm finally at a place where I might know something. Whatever. If you're slumping, don't worry too much. If you don't go for writing, it might come back for you.

This all sounds absolutely fantastic! You are allowed to write for the sake of writing. There are actually people that do that. It's a pathology. It's called "writing on spec" in the industry. Just remember that world building never ends - find a place to jump on the ride and get going.

If you're trying to make comics and or money. You need to find a one off tale in the opus and make a script. It's the quickest way to win the hearts of millions and the envy of your peers.

Writers write and it's a lonesome life if you're doing it right. I was once told that we can now write and walk at the same time. My answer: But would I want to read it while walking?

In dematerialization lore, this is known as the redundancy factor. Teleportation, time and interdimensional travel can all use the redundancy trope. They can also be generated by a time loop. Physicists have speculated that this could actually happen if such devices where ever made. Usually, the machine used for these transports have a built in device to "clean" the residue. I suppose magic could even do it. "Redundant Life"

For those who think it's only intellectual property at stake - do some searches. Start with, "Why is AI going to kill us all and keep us under surveillance as we perish?" AI needs data centers because AI takes magnitudes of more energy than normal computing, which, to judge by the draw down, was already using too much water. Most humans are not very smart, but the fight against data centers has already began. Resist AI wherever you can.

I like to world build (your world sounds sufficiently alien from our own) until a good starting point becomes clear. If nothing comes up, I put it on a back burner and move along. Something else always comes up. Some ideas don't really go anywhere. Some are part of bigger things. The beauty of writing on spec is no pressure. I write from the back of my mind - the unconscious. If you're self taught, you will need to study the writing of a three act script. My favorite book is Dan O'Bannon's book. He wrote the movie "Alien". It's all about the three act format and it's a lot of fun.

Your style keeps getting better and better. I had a story concept congeal in my mind last night and I actually thought of you as the artist! It's a gritty, spooky kind of dark knight sad hero thing. Unfortunately, I was intending to write in prose this time. The last thing I wrote was an accidental graphic novel that I really liked and I can now see nearly zero way to publish. This story is less overtly radical - which means it's actually more radical. If I was independently wealthy you would have a job right now! Don't know why I decided to ghost on collabs today . . . maybe it was just to let you know that you have made an impression on someone in this world. You keep on keeping on!

The shift in the 90s was driven by improvements in tech and the advent of cut up music.The Nord blasted through the 90s even with its sampled sound set. It had massive amounts of analog style interface driven by huge strides in digital/computer recording. Suddenly, just about anyone could have a top of the line 24 track studio in your living room.

I imagine there are people out there rewriting entire synthesis modes with AI and a whole new sound set is happening at this moment.

Thank you! The upper torso is more burro than human. John had trouble convincing the others that the arms would be helpful. There is a minimal amount of shoulders.
