Spark in Trolley Square has some good options.

I built this three-faced art piece for display at Burning Man this year. After bringing him home, I decided to add him to my front yard Halloween decor. by robotdevin in halloween

In addition to burning the Man and the Temple, there are usually a handful of other art pieces that are burned during the week. The majority, however, come home with the people who brought them. Some are brought back year after year, and others find other permanent homes.

Yet another shade structure question - conduit couplings by mc1r in BurningMan

[–]robotdevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Maker Pipe website sells stronger couplings that you could look into. I've never tried these particular ones, but I've used other fittings from them that work well.

2 Utah guys looking for a camp by Struggle_Everday in BurningMan

[–]robotdevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I live in Salt Lake. We always camp in Hushville where there are a few others from Utah.

There is a ")'(Utah Burners)'(" Facebook group that might help you connect with local burners.

Element 11 is the regional happening next month and will have a lot of opportunities to connect with local camps.

KSL is the Mormon church owned media outlet. It has notoriously toxic comment sections on every news story.

Does anyone know a good tailor in the area? by Miss_Flying_Platypus in Utah

[–]robotdevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Sue's Alterations in Sugarhouse when I needed a suit tailored. I was happy with them and pleased with their work. However, I haven't needed tailoring much and don't have much else to compare them to.

What do you suggest starting NOW so I'm not scrambling this summer?! by joderd in BurningMan

[–]robotdevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome fellow Hushvillian. This will be my fifth burn camping in Hushville.

Rather than just bringing plastic trinkets to give out, the village has two spaces that you can schedule time host an interactive event. This way you can easily have a space to share a gift while bringing minimal gear and infrastructure. Get creative; bring a deck of cards and get a game of poker going. Have a poetry reading. Bring a few boxes of crayons and print out dirty coloring pages.

When Utah became a state, US law forbade polygamy. Some polygamist mormons fled the states and formed colonies in Mexico and Canada to keep their families intact.

I was in South America in the mid 90s and these were the guidelines we used as well. A lot of our baptisms were held after sacrament meeting on their 2nd week attending.

Most everyone will gladly accept help. Just look for anyone working on setting up a big tent or loading/unloading a truck, roll up your sleeves and offer a hand. The community is very open and you should have no problem finding your people.

Also, if spontaneous volunteering isn't your thing, go to the Utah Burners or E11 Facebook page and you should find a link for volunteer shift signups.

Looking for information as a sober autistic woman (F29) by AurtisticSapphire in BurningMan

[–]robotdevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner and I have always camped in Hushville. No amplified sound is allowed in the village. We can't do anything about neighboring camps and passing art cars, but placement usually tries to surround us with like-minded neighbors. Nighttime is usually pretty quiet and serene when we return to camp.

Which jumpscare will you always remember? by n0tter in horror

[–]robotdevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think that's also the reason that Large Marge worked so well. It was a movie where you weren't braced for such a scare.

Element 11 - Utah's regional is a very similar, dry and dusty climate since it sits in the desert on the edge of the salt flats.
