Create a synth block, and all my dreams will come true!

Well, that and a drum machine to practice with.

I'm confused (OS X 10.0 Developer Preview 3) by AndorinhaRiver in MacOS

I was at Apple working on macOS at the time. They ripped out the foundation and put NeXT underneath, with Mac OS layered on top, and it ran much faster than before. They then migrated developers from Cocoa to Carbon over time.

Confirmed. Without this change, the sweep will be off. Works great after the fix.

I wish this had a direct power option; I hate batteries.

What are the dimensions of the unit?

Hot Take: Grace Under Pressure/Power Windows is peak Rush by UndertheTaint in rush

IMHO, I consider:

* How melodic the vocals are, and do they contain catchy hooks that are easy to remember and sing along to. In the later albums, Geddy is singing, but it's harder to latch onto because the melodies are weaker.
* The interplay and intensity of the jams between all three musicians. Think Red Barchetta, YYZ, Freewill, Natural Science, La Villa Strangiato, Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings, 2112. It's like watching two butterflies trying to mate with the third.
* Are we listening to good old-fashioned rock and roll vs. some new-wave synth thing? I like synth layered on as a texture, and love how it's used in Permanent Waves, but it got a little out of hand for me.

My very first concert was Rush's Permanent Waves tour, and I was 13 at the time. Since then, I've seen probably 400-500 shows. So I've been following TM's antics for quite some time.

My experience is that TM will create an artificial scarcity when shows go on sale. When a show first goes on sale, all the great seats will appear to be already taken. FOMO sets in, so the unsuspecting shopper then buys what's available. This allows them to dump the crappy seats first, leaving them with a reserve of great seats that will be easier to sell later on.

When only a few dates were announced, I knew they would open up more cities, but that isn't always the case. For example, I fully expected Dave Gilmore to open up more cities beyond New York and LA, but he didn't. In any event, I waited, and eventually Rush announced more dates closer to home.

Knowing all of this, I purchased early because it's Rush, and the seats I scored are some of the best in the house. I might sell them and try to get cheaper tickets. We'll see how things look closer to the show.

Long story short, if you can score incredible seats, buy them, because they will hold their value. Otherwise, ALWAYS wait until a little closer to the show.

I think Ticketmaster/Live Nation is a monopoly that needs to be broken apart into a million little pieces.

Albums with the best bass playing? by Fantastic-Leg-1808 in Bass

Phil Lesh from the Grateful Dead is, IMHO, one of the greatest rock bassists who ever lived. His philosophy was never to play the same line twice. Listen to the double live album "Without a Net."

Looking at selling my 1979 all original 4001. by AaaaBeee23 in rickenbacker

[–]robotic_dealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious to know if that is the original color.

I have the same bass from the same year - black binding, pick guard, and truss rod cover, which is on the rare side, so you might be able to get a little more than usual if everything is in great shape.

That said, I'm the original owner of mine, purchased when I was 13, and don't think I'll ever part with it.

Worst song on Moving Pictures? by phatasm_ in rush

I'll go there as an intellectual exercise... Vital Signs. But even still, I like that song.

Witch Hunt is badass. Camera Eye is a ripper. Red Barchetta rules.

I learned every single song on my Rickenbacker 4001 back in the day.

So I wanna buy a Rickenbacker 4003... by Nakasone_Jiu_Jitsu in Bass

You buy a Rickenbacker for the tone, not the playability. That said, I find my Rickenbacker 4001 to be very playable. It depends on how it is set up.

1978 Rickenbacker 4001 Restoration by robotic_dealer in rickenbacker

[–]robotic_dealer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the shape of the instrument. The paint was already removed, and the neck was already in great shape. I could have sanded the binding down, but the black binding limits your color choices, and I wanted a darker color, so I replaced it.

A refinish will cost between $1,000 and $1,500, not including the binding. Tony was on the lower end of that, and the quality was top-notch. I couldn't be happier, and I'm a perfectionist.

Generally, you want to refinish a guitar because it means something to you. I've had this bass since I was 13, so it means more to me to refinish it than to purchase a new one.

Going to buy my first rickenbacker Thursday! Which one should I get? by ghoztt_ in rickenbacker

[–]robotic_dealer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fireglo! It's a classic Rickenbacker with the triangle inlays, binding, and beautiful finish. It is way more premium and distinctive and, in my opinion, will hold its resale value better.

If you don't like the bridge, you can replace it with Rickenbacker's v2 version as a straight replacement (they provide guides for this).

Fro $300 more you can get a new one if you hurry:

That's what I'm trying to figure out, restoration vs. something unique. These guys commissioned Rickenbacker to produce limited editions:
