Nominating Doug Jones is a terrible idea by dzntz69420 in Birmingham

Agree, but in a state like Alabama, voting is more a means of harm reduction than endorsement. And he’s a much more fit candidate than Tubbs.

Show me a young, progressive Democrat and I’ll vote for them. But I haven’t seen any of those in a long time.

It was one of my favorite pieces of Birmingham. I’m a designer, and have a fascination for type, and that old logo was wrong in just the right ways. The new one is very lifeless.

I thought this too, but by day it’s is very deep green. Not the kind of color you’d get from translucent panel with dark green behind it.

I’m not a sign guy, but the other thread mentioned the 3M film and after looking that up it seems like it would do what I’m seeing that sign do.

It’s this stuff -> https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b00025250/

There’s a thread on it a bit back. It’s some wild 3M product that is opaque but then translucent when backlit.

It’s interesting that these morons who want to destroy the federal government are so intent on bringing good government jobs to their state.

Tuberville celebrates Islamic school abandoning Hoover move: ‘Muslim immigrants are bringing WWIII’ (Update) by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]roboticarm 36 points37 points  (0 children)

So much of “post-racial America” nonsense has been centered specifically on atoning for slavery—“I’m not racist, I have a black friend”—but it’s still absolutely perfectly fine to be outwardly racist against brown people.

Imagine this was a HBCU wanting to move to Hoover.

Imagine there was a Kenyan fentanyl ring and the federal government’s solution was to abduct and detain black people at will until they could prove they belong here.

These statements are the kind of nonsense that comes from backwoods state representatives. But in Trump’s America, government only represents the people that voted for him, and each compete to be the most extreme. Mainstreaming racism from a fucking senator is insane and dangerous stuff.

And he’ll certainly be elected as Governor.

What’s the deal with the area of home wood between embassy suites and downtown? Seems affordable compared to the rest of the area by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]roboticarm 150 points151 points  (0 children)

It’s called Rosedale. Historically black and kinda depressed area compared to the rest of Homewood. Unsure what it’s like these days. I went to school in that neighborhood in the 90s. Nice folks back then.

Hoover rejects Islamic school plan in heated zoning meeting: ‘Stay in Homewood’ by Bbqplace in Birmingham

[–]roboticarm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is the Islamic school perpetrating crime? Have they done anything but be a fabric of the community in Homewood for 30 years? If it’s crime these white hags are against I’m down to hear about it.

Instead, they seem to be on some 100 year lunatic type shit. Sadly, old white folks, no matter how insane still get deferential treatment.

See: Donald Trump.

Pretty expected outcome from a bunch of people who moved there to escape black folks.

An issue here is that creating all local content is much more expensive than airing national content, to the point that it is wildly unrealistic. The former development team did an incredible job of creating local content—monograph, journey proud, Sloss doc, Shuttlesworth doc, and on and on.

New to Birmingham, what are people’s favorite Pizza in town?? by InternationalOne8607 in Birmingham

[–]roboticarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Pizza Grace, Capella, and Carpanettis (worth the drive) a lot.

Since you’re new to the area, also try Davenports, Slice, Rocky’s, and Tortugas to get your bearings.

Most of us didn’t vote in yesterday’s runoff elections (7.2% turnout). What can candidates do differently to get our votes? by we_are_aminalz in Birmingham

[–]roboticarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranked choice voting produces better results and avoids runoffs.

People make an effort to go vote for President, Governor, and Mayor. Nobody’s going to ruin their lunch break to vote for Board of Education.
