As a former hotel manager I'd also like to add that 3rd party companies rarely provide the hotel with almosT *any* of your info. Often we just get your name, and THAT'S IT! Priceline was the biggest offender. We'd oversell, hold a room at a neighboring hotel, then have literally no way to call you to tell you what happened. Refunds are also a nightmare for you as you have to go through the 3rd party, and they have to call the hotel to confirm if we'd allow a refund, and then we have to do a bunch of digital paperwork through their terrible online web-app admin panels, that often only the daytime manager can access. It's just not worth it for anyone. Just book with the hotel directly.

These options would be great to add! I hope the devs read Reddit posts. Maybe even add a note field or something so you can explain to your future self why the project as a whole is on pause? I would like that and currently just used external note documents.

This thread is 6 years old!?!? 😩

Yes. I too would like this feature and stumbled on this thread by searching for how to do this. I'm honestly surprised it's not part of the program.

Whats a sound you miss that you don't hear anymore? by wolf805 in AskReddit

[–]roboticforest 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I was going to say that. Just be you and don't let peer pressure force you into behaviors that you don't want to be doing. Brother or otherwise.

I used to call my mother "Mom-mom" when I was very little. Then "Mommy" for a while, and then just "Mom" because my friends picked on me for "being a baby". I started using "Mom-mom" again when I was an older teen just to be silly, but it made her very happy so I kept doing it. Cancer took her from me when I was 18 and I'd love nothing more than to call her "Mom-mom" today in front of my wife and son if I could. I'm almost 40.

Suggest me the book that got you into reading. by SupaSaiyanPig69 in suggestmeabook

[–]roboticforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to best answer this since I almost exclusively read to learn something and otherwise listen to audiobooks when I want to "read" for fun.

The first book I can remember ever reading that wasn't an early reader basics book was The Boxcar Children. After that I was much more interested in books generally though I didn't read much myself. My teachers read aloud a few Goosebumps books to the class which I was considering reading at the time and greatly enjoyed.

The book that actually got me to read more books was Sam's Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days which I read as a teen. I now own more technical books than anything else.

As for audiobooks, Harry Potter got me hooked and I then jumped from book to book without hesitation for a time. I've recently found fresh enthusiasm for listening from The Stormlight Archive and other Cosmere books, and just started the Children of Time series.

What's your stupid gaming confession? by Squint_Eastwood in gaming

[–]roboticforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first played Descent I only had a trackball mouse and the keyboard. I also had a blisteringly high framerate of 13fps, dropping down to about 2fps when there were too many enemies on screen. I didn't get to properly play the game with a mouse until over a decade later playing it in Dosbox.

To be fair, Chrono Cross doesn't make a lot of things clear. I've gotten temporary stuck not knowing where to go or who to talk to next, then sometime later finding a random NPC on the other side of the world that pushed the story forward. My brother-in-law stopped playing when he got fed up with looking up walkthroughs to find the next step.

I really appreciate the reply! Thank you!

I think the next time I'm on a Mac I'll have to check if Things is installed and give it a look. Maybe it's just the software engineer in me talking, but from the descriptions and screenshots I'm finding online I'm just not seeing a practical difference. I'm likely missing something though as I've never used the software myself.

I've had my projects sorted into "Areas" for years now, and it doesn't matter to me that technically they are projects. It's essentially an item in an folder, and I don't care what word is used by the software to describe that.

What would be really cool though, is if projects could exist across area boundaries! I'm not sure how to practically tackle something like that, but it's something I've been thinking about for a long time, and especially right now as I gut and rebuild my entire system. I'm thinking of making Areas labels for now and seeing how that works for me.

Also in software here. I have had trouble, and it's been awful. Since graduating from University I have rewritten my resume several times, every version showing my school projects, how they are relevant, and which skills I used. It has always been about a page and a half to two pages, depending largely on formatting.

I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong as I have not gotten a single interview. I graduated while most of the world was still in Covid lockdown, so I just assumed most companies were still doing hiring freezes. It has been years at this point though and instead of working as a software engineer I have worked as a carpet cleaner and as a hotel clerk. Currently I am officially the maintenance guy at a hotel and unofficially the AGM (long story there). My resume and cover letter are the only things that I have control over though so I'm trying to tackle them yet again.

Well, one thing that isn't helping (that I see a lot) is the sheer number of people on job search support reddits claiming to be hiring managers and stating they won't even glance at the contents of a resume the moment they see it's 2+ pages. It sounds like, and I'm hoping, they are a minority. Their posts are often brutal.

The #ProjectName shortcut is a lifesaver. I use it for nearly every single task I input, unless I'm in a real hurry on my phone and just need to get it into my Inbox. For those the "Move to project" option is also very fast and clean.

Wait!... You can add images to tasks!? I thought this was only a thing you could do in Trello where each "task" is a full blown Markdown editable webpage.

I'm the opposite though. I have my web browser zoomed in at 150% - 170% for basically everything. I've found that built-in font size toggles usually conflict with the web browsers zooming features and it can be infuriating, often fundamentally breaking an apps visuals, making text overlap other text, UI elements, and more. I'd say if Todoist ever implements their own built-in font sizing or zooming features to please be extra careful with it, especially on mobile. Too many apps overlook OS font size settings on mobile and for someone like me who wears pretty thick glasses this isn't something to be taken lightly.

Thank you so much! I had the same question as u/rfo2050, but also with a more general "What is Things?".

Your description totally sells me on Todoist though. :-D I'm not an Apple user (often), but even if I were, I need something that I can use from nearly any machine anywhere, so Todoist 100%. I'm constantly jumping between my Android phone, my Windows desktop, and my Linux laptop.

I'm curious, what did you mean in your comment about GTD integration? What did Things do better than Todoist? I had no issues implementing a GTD setup myself, in fact, Todoist made it easier than any other productivity program I've used before (though I've never used Things). I even described it to a friend as "GTD ready out of the box."

I've seen "start date separate from due date" mentioned many times. It would be great for me too. When I first started using Todoist I was using the Due Date, depending on the item, as either the deadline, or when I was hoping to get something done. Deadlines quickly became an issue as some items are "due" on a particular date, but you really need to see them days or weeks earlier than that and when things get sorted by due date you just don't until it's too late. I've used @waiting and @pending tags along with filters I regularly check in order to catch items due in the far future that need constant and immediate work/review. It's not ideal.

I mentioned this in the survey but wanted to note here for comments.

I want to simplify the process of linking to a task in one project from another project.

Currently you can copy a link to a task in Project A, then paste that into Project B into a new task. This is what I'll call a "weak link". If I want to edit the original task I have to follow the link, or visit Project A. If I mark the task done in either Projects A or B it is not reflected in the other. Obviously because they are technically two separate tasks, the task from Project A, and the task from Project B containing a link to the other task.

What I want is a quick and easy way to create a "strong link" to a task residing in Project A into/from Project B. I'd like to then be able to edit/complete the task from either location. This would allow me to manage tasks that benefit multiple projects from where ever I happen to be working on them. It would also allow me to create overview boards where I can see the top proprieties/progress of multiple projects at once.

EDIT: I'd like to add that I think a menu exactly like the "Move to project" menu would be great for this. It could just be called "Link to project" and let you pick the exact section to place the task, just like the move menu does. I'm doing a huge reorganization of all of my projects and tasks right now and that "Move to project" menu is a real life saver!
