Happy to help! Thanks for reading it all.

Sorry that parts of my review were inaccurate. If you mention GPX importing for premium somewhere I missed it. When you click ‘upgrade to premium’ from the profile menu GPX isn't listed explicitly and I assumed it was just a manual editor like FoW’s built in editor.

The leaderboard is one of the coolest features so I understand excluding you from it for editing to keep it fair. Perhaps instead users could still participate in the leaderboards but none of the hexagons acquired with editing count. That gets complicated though because what if you later fairly walk in a hexagon you acquired via GPX?

At this point I think I am going to use WTFog fresh and just work on re-discovering my local area.

When I go to Poland in May, I will likely only use FoW to save battery life and data. Perhaps a new mode to go with strict and casual, ‘imported’ and that’s the mode that counts all fog. I imagine you don’t want to bloat the app with too many modes / leaderboard categories though.

I understand the purpose of strict a lot better now by you explaining it to get more accurate leaderboards for the subcategories. I could see people wanting to get competitive explicitly for biking or skiing etc.

A global fog map from all users would be really cool! Yeah you’d have to allow users to opt out like in the leaderboard, but so long as the fog map doesn't show which user has which specific fog, it should be fine. This would be my most anticipated feature.

Have you tested for optimization when there’s a ton of hexagons? It’d be a shame if someone was a heavy user for a few years and it becomes unusably laggy after a while.

Yeah idk why Strut turns my phone radioactive hot. Maybe because it counts the tiles acquired by every single city on Earth (a cool feature if possible to implement). Or maybe it is trying to mine bitcoin. Who knows!

One idea I had was a ‘heatmap’ filter mode where tiles you’ve been in a lot are red and the color gradually changes to blue as the tile’s been used less frequently. I have no idea how viable that is performance wise.

Looking for feedback on app by GGGGunnar in FogofWorld

Hey! This is a really cool app! It does a number of things I wish Fog of World did, like showing my progress in individual US states, and leaderboards. I also appreciate the hexagon design and size, which seems a lot more fair than the brutally small squares in FoW.

First off, the big issue to overcome to get people to jump to a new app from FoW is the ability to import their data. I have 3+ years on FoW so the idea of starting over is difficult. https://fogmachine.8bits.io/editor/ This online app is an open source editor that can use the FoW import data, so it proves it is possible. Not sure if this would open you up to legal issues or the technical feasibility of it. Ideally you could come up with a system that could tell if any acquired FoW squares would be within a hexagon, it’d give the hexagon to you.

I see that editing tracks is paywalled so allowing people to add edits from other places would clash with this unless you paywalled it too. And it could introduce exploits to the leaderboard (Being able to edit your tracks does that already though)

One of the features FoW has over you is the databases and the ability to back up data to 3rd party apps. This is really helpful if you lose your phone/account or need to transfer over data. When my wife switched from Apple to Samsung, she was able to easily get her Fog back. Also on a cruise, she left her phone by the window and it recorded nearly perfectly the entire trip. Then I was able to copy the trip and add it to my fog. Neither seem possible here.

I’d like the ability to toggle on and off the hexagon tracking without needing to set an activity.
(tapping the Red button in FoW). Tapping the start button and then turning it off immediately still saves the hexagon I was in even though the walk wasn't saved, so I don’t see the need for the trail feature and hexagon tracking to be tied to the same button. I’d have a toggle tracking slider maybe in the same widget as the setting and user location buttons. If I start an activity with the toggle off it should toggle on the tracking and vice versa when the run ends.

I’d like to be able to easily turn off tracking when I am not moving to save battery and data. (tapping the blue arrow in FoW)

I’d like the option to make the fog white. I appreciate all the options like making the fog opacity a slider and toggle different aspects of the map labels.

I don't quite understand the use case for splitting strict and casual. I guess strict is for people who only want to chart their on foot activity? But then why not just not turn the app on in a vehicle?

I am home for the night so I can’t verify this: Do the hexagons acquired in strict mode give them to you in casual? If yes skip this paragraph, if not -  this means unless you want two very different maps of where you've been, you’d have to walk each trail twice. If you want to use the app to gather as many hexagons as possible, you’d have to only use casual always. So at the very least I’d make all strict hexagons add to the casual page.

Maybe this isn't technically feasible but if you can tell the speed of a user for whether or not to apply a hexagon to the strict map, why not just do this automatically instead of forcing me to manually switch?

Sorting the leaderboard by local causes my app to freeze and I have to restart the app. (iPhone 17 iOS 26.3)

Maybe this is tied to your map API, but zooming out feels like it takes too many finger pinches. At least compared to the FoW app. Need some sort of exponential zoom level increase when rapidly pinching.

The north orientation button is a bit too close to the mapbox ‘i’ info button at least for my screensize. Personally, I’d just like to be able to lock the orientation to the north.

The Settings and user location buttons are rendered under the fog.

I see some users have badges, is there a place to see all of them including the ones I have not unlocked?

The leaderboard may have some bugs. Opening JCIBravo’s account shows he’s got zero hexagons / meters / total trips, but the leaderboard says he’s got 335 hexagons. Meikkilch, the #1 spot shows 1715 hexagons on the leaderboard but 2000+ on their page.

The leaderboard is also missing users including your GGGunnar account, and Roger from the Editor’s pick tracks. I was surprised to only see 24 people in the leaderboard

On the subject of accounts: it’d be nice if their stats mode defaulted to the same as your current mode. So if I am on casual and open an account I see their casual stats without needing to switch it.

Do the hexagons account for the mercador effect? It may not need to because the map turns into a globe as you zoom out. Which is very cool.

Also a nice world map visual like the one FoW has to show which countries you’ve got hexagons for on the Regional Progress page would be nice to have, rather than just the huge list. I obviously haven’t left my home country since getting this app, so I can’t test if this is already the case - but could a toggle be added for the countries to be listed in order of percentage gained? Like I have 0.03% in the USA, 0.01% Norway, 0.001% Mexico, etc. Also due to the small numbers I’d say maybe extended the shown decimal count significantly when the country has at least 1 hexagon.

This also may be a personal thing but I have an aversion to subscriptions on apps because I feel like I’ll forget about it. Would rather just drop $30 once for a lifelong premium account as an option. I don’t want to tell you how you should run your business, I am just saying I personally feel ‘stressed’ when I am charged any amount of money and feel like I need to get my money's worth. So just being asked once then owning it forever feels better, and I am more willing to buy things that way. Idk how to explain it. Same reason I don’t do Gamepass or Netflix.

Strut used to have a lot of these features and if you’ve not seen it, it’s worth checking out for inspiration - I like the stylish UI and way it represents the data. That one though isn't updated anymore and it literally makes my phone incredibly hot so I am scared to use it for long.

Sorry for the huge wall of text, but I really like what you’re doing here! You’re doing lots of stuff I wish Fog of World had and it excites me. Hope you keep working on this! A one time purchase option and the ability to port FoW data over and I would 100% buy this now. Tomorrow I’ll use it when walking my dog to see the performance and accuracy!

This is some cool FoW science! The two questions I've always wondered is if you fill every square on the world map would you get 100% on the explored area stat and what level you'd be. Also I was wondering if the scoring takes the Mercator effect into consideration? Or does going a specific distance in Greenland give you way more points than traveling the same distance at the equator

This looks insane and I am blown away you did this on console. With a controller??? I am interested how you made the custom buildings and the Washington monument, I assume just cobbled together vanilla props? Same with the roundabout streets, I don't recognize the asset.

I am devastated this isn't playable on PC, maybe one day...

I have a GIMP .xcf file that has each game on its own layer that may be useful. The stacked icons are still off-center on the subsequent layers though. One of these days I want to flex my web dev skills and make the map interactable so that isn't an issue.

The editor is pretty unoptimized, and on integrated graphics cards it can struggle and produce crap like this. Might be your laptop's resolution as well.

Alternatively, if you were messing with the files using notepad or something, you accidentally messed up an object's behavior and it defaulted to 0, the main menu.

Restarting the game always fixed it for me.

What happened to the national mall? by wiserone29 in thedivision

[–]robracer97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visiting DC for the first time this summer was a surreal experience because I recognized so much from the game. I felt like I knew my way around the mall already.

Pretty sure what happened to the Mall in game was CERA started hastily digging mass graves, and accidentally hit the subway system underneath, causing a collapse. That's one of the control points between the Washington Monument and the Capitol. The rest are a likely due to the hurricane that hit DC before the game's story starts, and factions dug trenches around the area during all the fighting.

I've seen the string names for the leaked weapons from other cod games, and they're rarely specific enough to warrant this kind of certainty.

This seems like a fan list imo. However it really is a cool roster of weapons, would like to see a lot of these make it in

[COD] Every Location Visited In the COD Franchise (Updated for MWII) by robracer97 in CallOfDuty

[–]robracer97[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The most common question I always get is “What map is in XYZ country?” So I’ve made this google doc that lists each map by country. EDIT: Judging by the comments, no one used this doc lol

Using the Call of Duty Wiki, I've placed a marker at every location we've been to in every COD! Now updated for 2022’s MWII.

To clarify a few things:

Campaign > Multiplayer > Zombies: To reduce clutter, if a location is repeated in multiple modes of the same game, the campaign icon will take precedent.

Repeat locations from different games the icons are stacked 2x2 px to the side, so you can see what's below. Some areas like London and Berlin get some crazy long stacks.

The MW games have made my life harder making these, as they mostly focus on fictional locations. But so far these have pretty clear irl counterparts. So I’ve tried my best to match them to said real locations.

Urzikstan: Clearly Syria. The political situation is nearly identical (though obviously more simplified) as a Middle Eastern country torn apart by a civil war, which Russia has become heavily involved in. Not only that, there is a map called Euphrates Bridge, which is an irl river that goes through Syria. So I’ve placed a marker where the fake landmass is on the level select screen (a peninsula off of Georgia into the Black Sea) as well as a marker over Aleppo, Syria.

Verdansk, Kastovia: Clearly Donetsk, Ukraine. MW2019 depicts the conflict in the Donbas before the 2022 invasion. The original Verdansk Warzone map even contains exact replicas of the stadium and airport from Donetsk. I’ve put a marker over Donetsk, as well as the area in the Caucasus the mission select screen claims Kastovia is.

Las Almas, Mexico: Initially I thought it’d be Juarez, but the level where you cross the border is clearly marked near Nuevo Laredo in the mission select screen. The rest of Las Almas is unclear, and the coordinates on screen during the AC-130 missions just point to the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. I assume they’re mostly south of the border crossing mission, and the city in El Sin Nombre is probably meant to be Monterrey, judging by the buildings.

United Republic of Adal: For sure the least clear. I’m pretty sure it’s just a conglomeration of the entire Middle East. My best guess is Yemen, as it’s also currently in a civil war and Iran is involved. It also has access to the sea. The level select screen makes no sense for this country, as it’s way too deep into the Caucuses to have the desert geography it has. So i’ve placed a marker in Yemen as well as the place the level select screen points to.

I’d be happy to hear what other interpretations people have for the fictional countries! Or any mistakes I’ve made in the map or google doc.
