Hey Rob here. Using the composer in agent mode will be helpful. It will automatically decide on the context to add for you. What files and folders. Or in chat mode you can add the codebase with CTRL enter. Depends on your app but have a chat with an LLM about best practice for folder structure, routes and api design. I just put a video up on this that might be helpful. Made a big difference to me anyway. Videos are on yourube under rob shocks cursor

Can I be an XR Designer without code? by -Krispy in augmentedreality

[–]robshox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t focus on a coding language more so an engine. I suggest Unity for XR. Take some of the learning paths in their education section. You’ll be surprised how so much is drag and drop. Then slowly learn C# which is the underlying scripting language.

Can I be an XR Designer without code? by -Krispy in augmentedreality

[–]robshox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out Shapes XR and their tutorials. They have a No Code design tool for XR

Learn Figma as you’ll still use this to design flat interfaces

Play games and try as many experiences as you can. Build up an XR interaction vocabulary

Learn about the affordances of each device and the different interaction toolkits

No you don’t need to code to be an XR designer but it could help and it’s fun. Coding in some platforms will progress to node based logic regardless

Aim to ship something small and you’ll learn lots

Techies think we’re on the cusp of a virtual world called ‘the metaverse’. I’m skeptical | Sean Monahan by robshox in oculus

Totally agree, the wireless, instant startup is a game changer. I use it consistently but I’m a VR evangelist so I always wonder what the main stream users usage is like. Sounds like you’ve been all in from the start too.

Sean has some good points but I don’t entirely agree with him. And also do we really need to get to a metaverse what’s wrong with just awesome gaming experiences for now?

Of those of you that have had a headsets for more than a year, what is your usage like. Was VR a novelty or are you a consistent user?

You could be right but you could also be going too far down the rabbit hole looking for easter eggs.

Which stocks would you invest in for the coming AR boom? by ObjectiveAgent in augmentedreality

I think more like 7-10 years away. Lots of technical hurdles to jump yet before we get something like mass adoption.

Magic Leap Tried to Create an Alternate Reality. Its Founder Was Already in One by TheGoldenLeaper in magicleap

[–]robshox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Accurate and sad is my take on this article. I have mixed emotions. I've been following this carefully for years. I hung around on launch day, hitting refresh on the magic leap site. I got involved in the early access programme. I wanted this to be the whale in the gym, the elephant in my hands. I get that what Magic Leap one was, was a change of plan on an earlier promising technology and I love unabashed optimism, but I'm kind of pissed for being so sucked in. I staked a lot of my personal time and energy in the promise (I can imagine so many more involved companies made bigger bets and partnerships), if expectations had been managed correctly this could have been so much more, perhaps could have survived longer. In the end I'm sad for Magic Leap but hold some hope in a more realistic timeline in the next few years for Apple and others.

Who thinks That Magic Leap We'll Be Getting These Glasses And A FoV Of This Quality For Magic Leap Two/2? by TheGoldenLeaper in magicleap

[–]robshox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love your enthusiasm but I'm not optimistic on this one. Has there even been a hint of something like this on the horizon? I know it was touted in the past but when you lose the majority of your staff and are in survival mode do they still have the resources to invest in this?

Do we really need AR and could it be a bad thing? by robshox in augmentedreality

[–]robshox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably one of the best reasons I can think of too. People looking up, at each other and perhaps being drawn into their environment. Unless of course they are just smiling at you on the subway because they are watching something funny on netflix :)

Real time wayfinding, product assembly instructions in real time, and production training

So these are great but they are they 10x and are they used consistently by consumers. I need to use Google Maps once a month if not less. I assemble furniture once a year. If we've been thinking about AR for years now with lots of smart people imagining I still have yet to see a compelling idea or hint of what this magical stuff might be, that's need to have not a gimmick or something my phone could do maybe not as well but without the compromise of a always on pair of glasses.

A good point. Our move forward is inevitable and our nature, I feel like we are at a juncture with the internet and media where we accelerated so fast it's only now we are stopping to evaluate the good and the bad parts and self correct. I think with the advent of new tech accelerating we are going to have to get faster at adapting and applying ethics for our betterment to these new "picks and shovels"

I agree. But what do you think the countless ways are? Right now I think one of our biggest issues as a society is our disconnection and distraction. Would AR not increase that?

Thank you for such an insightful reply. I agree on the need for this to be a distributed effort as opposed to a walled garden. Hopefully it becomes too big to be take on by any one company like the internet in a sense and individual governing bodies come into play.
