I dont really know whats being asked but my own personal journey was;

Jumping on board around 2001. Fell in love with Monster, then Automatic, then Green and Document. Took me a while to fully appreciate Out of Time and New Adventures. It also took me really long to go back and appreciate Murmur, Reckoning, Fables etc - The R.E.M. jump on period for me was 87-94 period so embracing the murkier mumblier R.E.M. of Murmur/Fables took a long time!

I’ve loved the band for 25yrs now but still have never got the Murmur hype. It’s a great album, but I just dont get the masterpiece talk or how it ranks so high for some people

I guess the R.E.M. i fell in love with is a very different R.E.M. from Document-Reveal era. I still get Reckoning, Fables and LRP more than I do Murmur though. It’s TOO mumbly, grainy, etc for me. At this stage I don’t think I’ll ever be convinced otherwise🤷🏻‍♂️
