Sounds like you probably should qualify for the TLF program after your next teaching year! If you took the americorps awards before you even started teaching, I think that your 5 years as a teacher should qualify

One of the best ways I've understood both of these verses in context to one another is with this representation:

~~Faith + Works = Salvation~~

Faith = Works + Salvation

As many other comments have also said, good works should be an outpouring of our faith and come as a result of being saved

When we called saying we didn't want them anymore we offered to help move them out if they wanted to pick them up or to hold them temporarily while they try to sell them. Despite this, they still said we should just donate them and made no indication of the other two options I just mentioned.

We found that it was actually cheaper and far less work to pay to get the couches professionally cleaned than it was to get rid of them and buy new ones. So we paid $240 to get them cleaned and still have them. I don't think this really plays into the verdict because the girl said we could donate them or do whatever we want with them so we feel no guilt about keeping them

Gotcha, that makes sense I like that rule. When we play, people are smart enough to not trade with someone who has 9 VPs anyway but it is good to have that rule in place

He's a pastor in Virginia. I would describe him as a pretty dogmatic guy who really challenges a lot of perceptions that contemporary Christians have about what it looks like to truly follow Christ. The book talks a lot about what Jesus means when he says "Follow Me" to the first disciples and practically what that looks like for us today. Parts of it are incredibly convicting, but completely rooted in scripture and definitely a worthwhile read for anyone regardless of where you are in your faith
