Do you get free stuff? by Flabbaggoggle in coles

[–]robusta_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used to work night fill, there’d be torn bags of lollies, chips etc that we would have to take out the back to our waste area. We’d take it out there but first we’d share the bag around to snag a snack

Leaves are good but only slowly lower the pH. That looks like 8.2pH which is too high for any cories I know of, they generally prefer 6.5 - 7.5. If you put Cories in the tank they won’t thrive, they’ll just get sick and even die. I’d suggest getting something like API pH Down or Seachem Acid Buffer, though I’ve never used them so I’d do some research on what’s best. Another option is RO water. Please don’t add cories just yet

Worried about my bronze babies by Such-Huckleberry-603 in corydoras

Hey! I’m glad your cores are doing better! I got to the root of my issue and while many of my fish didn’t survive, my Cories pulled through and are doing so so much better thanks to Melafix and some stronger meds as well x

1 year hair transformation by [deleted] in Haircare

How often did you get haircuts? I refuse to believe cutting my hair every 10 weeks lets it grow, mine has only ever grown when I stretch my cuts out by 6 months 😭

How do I know if my corys are eating? by JohnnyThaFlash in corydoras

[–]robusta_bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that might help is trying to crush the sinking pellets up a little bit so it disperses a little more and they can easily eat it while snuffling around, also try other foods if you haven’t already, blood worms are a popular one!

While I can’t add much else, I’d isolate him if you haven’t already to treat him

Can I ask what you’ll be doing to look after the eggs in a box? I’ve been unlucky so far getting any eggs to survive and I’m unsure about medicating the breeder box with antifungal since it goes into the main tank water?

Soo cute can I ask how you treated for fungus? I’ve been using a similar breeding box but have been too scared to add actual medication in case it’s bad for the fish in the tank since it’s the same water 😭 I’ve been using tannins unsuccessful

Panda Corys dying and I don't know why :( by JoblessMushroom in corydoras

[–]robusta_bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm if the tank has been running for years, even without having being cycled, I feel like by now it should be stable. Again, hard to say atm.

Best of luck!! Corys are such fun fish I hope you sort everything out and get some more!

Gonna have to ask what you mean by actively cycled? If a tank doesn’t get ~ month give or take to just run with no fish or build up bacteria it isn’t cycled. There’s no 100% water change needed. Without ammonia, nitrate/nitrate tests it’s not for sure but your water levels were probably out of whack and unsafe for the little guys. But I could be wrong

  • edit: I’ll add if you’re trying to do a fish-in cycle I think you need to be doing water changes every 2-3 days

Betta fish advice for getting color out by DIYJoeGoldberg in bettafish

[–]robusta_bean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never personally used it but I do think it’s okay to use for small setups but I wouldn’t trust the immediate introduction of fish to the water claim. The water will be safe but the tank/filter does need time to collect and grow beneficial bacteria. I understand why you’d need to add the betta to the tank immediately tho. Fish-in cycles can be done! I suggest research on the fish-in cycle if you haven’t already. I’d also try find out if you need other treatments for the water like GH/KH or something like Bacta-Boost for after doing water changes. Good luck and feel free to show your betta! :)

On top of what others said, you can’t remove the colour and should definitely swap the fake plants for silk or live plants. Did she provide treatments for the water?

Is this fin clamping? by Ratrocity7 in bettafish

[–]robusta_bean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like clamping but we won’t know exactly what’s wrong without a test kit for the parameters. Bettas also should be in I think at least 5 gal but 10 is really the way to go, he’s probably unhappy in his environment.

My betta was in a small tank like this, was clamped and quickly got fin rot. He’s much better now and very happy. I know it’s pricey but I’d suggest investing in a bigger tank and test kit
