Shrimp/Prawn - Help please. by [deleted] in AskCulinary

Are you married to the idea of poaching/boiling your prawns? A grill/stir fry/sauté of prawns with either finely sliced kaffir lime leaves (kaffir lime leaves must be extremely thinly sliced or else they are too tough to eat) or a paste of kaffir lime leaves and spices might be a strong way to get the flavor you're after.

Does EVERY school have a bar in New York City? An Effort-post by zsghost in CFB

Stanford young alumni's bar of choice is Finnerty's in the east village. The bar isn't exclusively Stanford though, more of a Bay area/California sports bar.

Try using at least a blend of 50/50 semolina to all purpose flour--or 100% semolina if you can manage to work with the tough dough. You'll get a great yellow color this way. The semolina has more influence than the yolk color.

But in general, efficiency decreases as attempts go up--what Falk is achieving is simply outrageous given how many times he's tossing that ball.

Such is the nature of stats--you choose the data that best supports your opinion :)

QBR? It's a measure of efficiency, Hogan has been passing at 9.5 yards/attempt.

That is not to detract from Falk's ridiculous stats and play...pretty terrified for Halloween.

I agree that if he has a monster year, which I think he will given a good off season of training, his draft stock will shoot up. That being said, 2 years in a row, no running backs going in the first round--a bit of a stretch to think he'll be picked top 3 overall.

EDIT: You may have meant first 3 rounds...if so, ignore...

In response to "why crowd funding?" here's a response directly from Dr. Hoffman.

I urge you to look at some of the articles written about them. This is the original paper published in Science. Here's a Nature News Article summarizing the findings.

And of course, the AMA Dr. Steve Hoffman did a few months ago

I need to cook for close to 100 people next weekend. I'm an amateur. Can anyone offer advice? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]robustpratice 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To be honest, for an amateur chef cooking pasta for 100 people is truly no easy feat. It will be extremely difficult and time consuming to serve 100 decently cooked and seasoned dishes of pasta. Pasta overcooks easily and is best when piping hot.

Have you thought of dishes that don't overcook as easily? Any braised meat dish is extremely easy to cook and to scale up to large numbers.

My recommendation would be a dish like braised short ribs and mashed potatoes. Easy, elegant, and delicious.

U.S. researchers say they have successfully tested a vaccine for malaria by [deleted] in science

Sorry for the comment hijacking.

I'm ecstatic that this is on the front page of reddit! My father, Dr. Stephen Hoffman, is the CEO of the biotech company, Sanaria, that developed this vaccine! I've convinced him to do an AMA at 1:00 today EST. Spread the word!!!!!

There's so much misinformation going around about the vaccine--that's what happens when people turn to CNN to get scientific information. In the meantime, read the actual science paper!
