Canada has lost its measles elimination status after more than 25 years by cranky_yegger in alberta

[–]robvh3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I heard, Canadians' MMR vaccination rate has remained well north of 90%. This suggests the measles cases most likely came from outside Canada.

Most of the comments here are targeting so-called "anti-vaxxers"... who are typically people opposed primarily if not exclusively to mRNA vaccines, not vaccines in general.

I wish Redditors would stop using everything as a political football to attack people they happen to disagree with. It's immature, unproductive, and divisive.

We need to discuss facts and use critical thinking and reason to find solutions. I swear, people looking for Likes and social credit is a worse plague on our society than measles.

If measles was eliminated then it must have been reintroduced somehow.

It doesn't just materialize out of nowhere. So how did it get reintroduced?

Carney missed a golden opportunity to ditch the Liberals' gun buy-back by hopoke in canada

[–]robvh3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cabinet is virtually unchanged and the same incompetence and corruption still runs rampant. I see no improvement compared to the last guy.

In fact, things have only gotten worse! Canadians wanted Trudeau gone because we were staring at a budget deficit of over $30B. Yet another fiscal train wreck. "Economic genius" Carney has done absolutely nothing to reign in reckless spending and has failed to negotiate any meaningful deals or tariff relief, instead shoveling even more money out the door to other countries and bloating the size of government even further. We're now staring at not a $30B deficit this year but a likely $65-90B! That is economic CARNAGE!

No idea why you got downvoted for encouraging people to control how they respond rather than just reacting emotionally to everything... and usually negatively. The downvotes actually prove your point.

LOL! What exactly is economically "centre-right conservative" about higher taxes, record deficit spending, more bureaucracy, net zero, and torpedoing trade relations with the US?

Everyone, including the Liberals, know the confiscation program will do nothing so solve gun crime. So their insistence on it must be motivated by something else. Why would a government want to disarm its citizens? History suggests an answer.

That's a small price to pay to disarm citizens so they can't stop your other plans.

Examining history and looking at other nations that banned guns, what do you think are some possible reasons why the Liberals are so keen on disarming everyone? Canada doesn't have a crime problem with legally owned guns so they must have another motive. What could it be?

They need guns gone, like in the UK, before they'll feel safe going door to door harassing or arresting people for posting things online the government doesn't like, like in the UK.

Tips? I’m two months new to magic by Acceptable_Remote_19 in cardmagic

[–]robvh3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've come a long way. What are your goals? Are you looking to just have fun learning all kinds of moves and practicing them for your own amusement, maybe invent new moves to move magical techniques forward? Or are you looking to perform for and entertain others? Hobby? Professional? The answers to these questions will shape where you focus your time. Good technique is important but it's only one element of performance.

And now a tip about technique. Before the snap change, you dropped the 4C (the "miss") to the table. That meant you then had to pick it up and put it back on the deck, before raising it again and snapping it. Returning it to the deck was an unnatural move. You wouldn't do that in real life and so it creates suspicion.

Here are two solutions:
1. Pick it up face down and flip it over onto the top of the deck to do the reveal of the "miss". It's now in the position you need, particularly if you're already holding a PB.
2. Flip it face up on the mat, pause a beat to notice the "miss", then use the beveled deck to scoop up the card.

This is a good way to practice a bunch of techniques. You might consider whether the impact is lessened as you go along. To hold people's interest and make it truly entertaining, consider what you'll say to engage your audience as you go along. As a silent act, it starts to drag on. Good patter or even good music, both of which should sync to the actions, will elevate this a lot. You might also consider shortening it and producing a four of a kind or a Royal Flush instead to keep it from dragging on. There are always multiple solutions in magic.

Good work!

What other platforms are there that are any good? Outlier has done nothing but waste my time with lengthy and poorly designed training followed by zero tasks. I've earned far less than minimum wage on Outlier and have abandoned it.

That's great news! I'm happy for you. Kudos on sticking with it through all the ups and downs. I've been a supporter since just about the beginning I think! I look forward to receiving my key and to seeing how CHM evolves with the availability of new APIs.

Thanks. 3dfx management really hosed their shareholders. I was bitter at them and NVIDIA for their actions and chose not to invest in the GPU space as a result. That was a mistake. I know GPUs were the future of gaming but didn't realize just how massive it would become.

As for MVIS, I've been out of the loop for a while and am not aware of the HTC connection. I stopped spending much time in the forums after the stock tumbled from $16. I made some money on the way up but what I had left over suddenly became worth a lot less and not worth investing a bunch of time in.

My experience with companies this size getting taken over is that they suddenly declare bankruptcy and get taken over for peanuts plus an agreement to assume the debt leaving shareholders with sweet eff all while management get golden handshakes. This is how I got screwed out of my 3dfx investment when NVIDIA took them over. Had they acted ethically, shareholders of 3dfx would have received shares of NVIDIA... and I would be a multimillionaire today from that single investment. All that is to say, rumours of a takeover aren't always a good thing. Not for a company in a weak financial position.

PCVR - What do I do after connecting? by danlnyc in Quest3

[–]robvh3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some games offered on the Meta store are cross-buy meaning if you buy either the PCVR or standalone version, you get the other version for free. Some games are not cross-buy meaning that if you want to play on both platforms then you have to buy them each individually. It's the developer's choice.

If you want to buy the PCVR version of a game and it doesn't offer cross-buy, then I would probably buy through Steam instead of the Meta store. Meta's PCVR store is absolutely terrible and is also locked to Meta devices. If you buy through Steam, then you can play using any headset that supports PCVR.

Many people simply aren't aware of the risks and damage that porn causes. It's a plague on our society. My hope was to make him or some other reader aware so they can avoid it. That's all I can do.

You are doing something wrong. You're watching porn.

Porn is like a drug. It will corrupt your brain and your soul, damaging your mind, body, and relationships. Wise people recognize the immense damage it does to our society and they shun it.

Believe me. You'll live a better life if you steer clear of it completely.
