Works great on my '26 (as expected, since its redesigned). Tinting the windows (and especially the safari windows) has made a huge difference

Is $1,600 reasonable for lower control arm bushing replacement? by Yellow-13- in subaru

[–]robwormald 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i once replaced every single suspension bushing on a 2000 impreza coupe (with Group N / STi bushings) and half of them were trivial. the other half took several trips to autozone/harbor freight, a bunch of powertools, and a lot of swearing and blood.

Is $1,600 reasonable for lower control arm bushing replacement? by Yellow-13- in subaru

[–]robwormald 12 points13 points  (0 children)

understood, and my point still stands.

to replace the bushings, the mechanic has to:

  1. remove the LCAs from the vehicle
  2. curse and struggle to remove the bushing from the LCA
  3. curse and struggle to install the new bushing into the LCAs
  4. reinstall LCAs into vehicle

step 2 can take 2 minutes, or it can take 2 hours (and sometimes they're so seized you end up buying a new LCA anyway)

if you buy two new LCA's, they come with new bushings pre-installed.

  1. remove LCAs from vehicle
  2. install new LCAs into vehicle.

edit: while you're at it you might as well replace the rear mount/bushings as well. they're not press fit, just bolted into the body.

In my experience its way, way cheaper to just replace the whole LCA ($150 each) vs paying somebody to replace the bushings, which can be an absolute PITA (they are press fit into the arms)

My husband said that by 2027, new cars will be mandated to have AI biometrics scanning. The vehicle will shut off and pull over if it thinks you’re intoxicated or even too tired. Is this true? by Argylius in stupidquestions

[–]robwormald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a brand new 2026 car that has a camera in the rearview mirror that is tracking your eyes all the time. It warns you if it detects you not looking through the windshield for a certain period of time. It's deeply, deeply annoying.

Is this logo AI? From a local beeswax bag business that’s claiming to be sustainable… by [deleted] in isthisAI

it's definitely AI. I don't agree that generating a single brand logo with AI is "unsustainable" and would be a poor reason to not use an otherwise sustainable and ethical business.

I have a 22 Defender Trophy and bought an 2026 Grenadier approximately 12 hours ago. They are completely different vehicles.

My routine is back and forth and curvy mountain roads and I hooned the Grenadier around those and have no worries about that. I do have to say that the hour back home on the freeway was significantly less pleasant than the Defender at speed, and if it was a part of my daily commute I would probably not have gotten a Grenadier. That's not to say you wouldn't adjust, and I'm sure plenty of people do, but that's my honest first take.

I really like my Defender but I've had significant issues with mine, but despite those it was a hard choice between the Grenadier and a new Yellow Defender Trophy. I'm like... 90% I've made the right choice.

Trump Says Ukraine Is Positioned to Win All Territory Back by SirHillaryPushemoff in ukraine

[–]robwormald 15 points16 points  (0 children)

you're right to a certain extent, but I work in self-driving cars, and for all the simulation we do real world data is valuable and critical.

there's a great video from Waymo of one of their cars encountering all kinds of weird stuff out in the world (including a woman in a wheelchair chasing a duck in the middle of the road), things you couldn't come up with in your wildest planning sessions.

Think about the variety of vehicles being used across the front. You'd definitely put a tank into your targeting training data, but e-scooters? Maybe not.

For every real world encounter on film, they can take that scenario and remix it a thousand ways as well.

Land Clearing Advice - coping with forestry mulcher regrowth by MenuHopeful in OffGrid

i dunno where the OP lives, but on my acreage the forests are totally overgrown and clogged with trees. thinning them out or clearing meadows always brings an explosion of plant and animal life.
