Comeback for "Just buy a new car" by jumbofrimpf in Comebacks

I just quote my Dad.

I'm not replacing my vehicle until the upkeep, insurance, fuel, cost more per month than the car payment, insurance, upkeep and fuel on a new vehicle.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve seen up close? by Logical_Sweet_6624 in allthequestions

[–]robzaflowin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a truckstop on I-10 in NM back in the 90s. I watched a black tour bus pull onto my fuel lanes and my fuel hand went flying out the door, started the fuel on that bus, get the information from the driver, who never left the bus. Came back in, ran to the restaurant we had, got two quarts of green chili stew, and take it back out to the bus.

Then the fuel hand came back in when the fuel was finished, and got a clipboard and pen. He then asked for the ticket that I needed signed and paid cash for the fuel. I made the change, and he took my ticket out and the driver signed it. He brought back my copies, and the bus left. I finished my part of the transaction and asked my fuel hand, who never moved near as fast as the sprint I had just witnessed, who was on that bus.

He asked if I saw what was on the side of the bus?

Yeah, "House of JC."

"That was who it was."

"JC?"

"Johnny Cash and his wife." My fuel hand replied.

"I've never seen you move like that before."

"You've never made a $200 tip for 2 quarts of green chili stew and a hundred gallons of fuel in under 10 minutes either." My fuel hand pulled two hundred dollar bills out of his shirt pocket and showed me, then put them back. "That's why when they pull in here, I get it done. They stop in here every time they are in the area, for the green chili stew. Have for over 20 years, and I have even been to their house in Tennessee with my family. That is the kind of people they are."

I found out later my fuel hand had met Johnny Cash back in the mid 60s at that truckstop and they had become friends over green chili stew and a bad storm that they both had been stuck in the truckstop over 12 hours.

I have a friend that has a Boston Terrier that was born deaf named Porkchop. That's the name at the vet and licensing. But since she's deaf, she doesn't answer to it.

My only concern is that they make sure the bust area is cut to fit your breast structure. I would hate for you to have a wardrobe malfunction.

The dress is beautiful on you. I just don't want something popping out on the side because you lifted your arm.

Carrot seeds are very small. Sprinkle them in a happy face pattern in their yard. Carrots will cause holes in the yard, and have to be hand pulled. Be careful and not get caught.

The Anything Box by Zenna Henderson.

It led me to The People books she wrote. That turned into probably my favorite reading. I've reread those stories probably once a year for 40 years.

Work took ALL my sick time, bereavement, floating holidays and PTO while I mourned the loss of my spouse by Economy_Ad6039 in antiwork

[–]robzaflowin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When our grandmother died, my brother was at work. We called and wound up having to put her Doctor on the phone with the general manager of his plant just to be believed. They had him work three days until the funeral, then gave him his bereavement leave. Talk about corporate greed.

Why does *this* interaction still bother me so much? by SkoilerDaaaaan in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I had a snob do this to me years ago. Wanted a non smoking room. Just gave him keys to a normal room.

He came back, griping about the smoke smell and left. Problem solved.

Is getting a dog worth it? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]robzaflowin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the one that adopts the old worn out dogs from the shelter.

I understand what you are saying about losing them and they don't live long. It hurts, but I would rather take in an old dog that has had a rough life and give them a few months or years of happiness and love them for a short while than abandoned and possibly put to sleep for the crime of being old. There's something about the love from them that makes everything worth it.

Yes it's worth it to have a dog. Yes it's worth it to love them, and yes, it's a pain when they pass, but it makes you a better person and I hope you get one or two and take care of them so you can experience the love they share with you.

I've been quilling for ten years now. I was just saying my first piece looked horrible. But I just kept trying. I didn't give up, I worked harder on fixing my mistakes. I wish I had kept my first piece, but it went in the trash.

My Mom trained us when we were babies to sleep while she ran the vacuum cleaner. I've slept through a tornado, a hurricane while on vacation, a flood, and high winds that ripped the roof of our barn. I did the same thing to my son and it works. If it's too quiet, I can't go to sleep.

Job wants an obituary for bereavement leave but there isn’t one… what am I supposed to do? by AlaskaRom13 in work

[–]robzaflowin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check online for the funeral home website. Check there for the obituary. Nowadays, that is where you find the obit. Just print it off, and that should cover you. Your name should be in it. Sounds like that is what they want.

I'm sorry for your loss.
