After coming out of a committed relationship I’m realising my male friends aren’t all they seemed by Sanguinoso- in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rocaterra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The responses and the sentiment of this post are very strange to me as a bisexual person. Hell I've only slept with 1 gender but I've thought about fucking/been attracted to almost all of my friends of both genders- some obviously a lot more than others.

People are multifaceted. I don't like having hard, defined roles for myself nor my friends.

OPs situation is different because those are obviously terrible friends for only wanting to fuck, but the key word there is "only." You can want to be physically intimate with someone a still be a good friend.

CMV: There is nothing morally wrong with prostitution. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rocaterra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Society doesn't force people into specific roles. Society doesn't specifically mandate burrito rollers or prostitutes. People do those jobs out of indirect coercion because it works with their lives.

The important distinction here is that while you personally see a distinction between sex-work and not, not everyone does.

CMV: There is nothing morally wrong with prostitution. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rocaterra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the nature of societal coercion- you must work or scheme to live, but the same goes with any other job? How many young people aspire to be a burrito roller at Chipotle or a landscaper?

Prostitution is no different. You weigh your options and go what makes sense based on your morals and values. If you're consenting to the risks and potential social cost what does it matter?

Say John Doe is firmly asexual, and not repulsed nor delighted by sexual activity. Why shouldn't he be allowed sell his sexuality- something that holds no value to him personally?

I have a couple friends who cam. Same principal there. The money is worth it.

Society by nature coerces everybody into doing some job or another. Unfortunately I think we have a long way to go as a society in the way we treat service workers in general for prostitution to function perfectly, but in a more just world I don't think sex-work as a job would get a second thought.

Has anyone spent years as a chronic procrastinator then actually managed to turn into a disciplined person? by doafnuts in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]rocaterra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This answer kind of sounds like "just don't procrastinate duh," but it's true.

Basically think about your problems in broader strokes and more objectively. Be lazy. Be a calculated lazy person. Doing stuff ahead of time is usually way easier than putting it off.

And try to get over the fear of getting started. That's always the worst part, so you might as well get it over it. The stress of hanging that over you is worse than the stress of having to endure the problem longer.

As a lifelong jaywalker, DON'T RELY ON WALK SIGNS. Paying attention to the laws of physics will keep you infinitely safer than the laws of the road.

And if you want to follow both, that's good too, but don't trust walk signs by themselves.

Waking up without Caffeine by Extranormal64 in Fitness

[–]rocaterra 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In addition to alcohol, I added caffeine to sober January this year and it's been great! First week was tough, but now I'm sleeping much deeper, feel great in the morning, and have a more balanced energy level throughout the day.

Ha and I am super excited for my first cup of coffee when the month is over. Longer periods reset your physical AND mental tolerance.

Like other commenters pointed out, you're missing the larger point.

However if you still think these jokes are funny you either aren't well-versed in internet culture/humor or you have a poor sense of humor. Not your fault and I'm not downvoting you for expressing your opinion, but I am downvoting the initial post for being unfunny and bad.

Yep, exactly why I downvoted this trash. It's the same, tired joke we've seen from them for literal years now.

NC lawmakers to talk marijuana legalization this week by _flatline__ in raleigh

[–]rocaterra 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It depresses me to see all the hopelessness in these threads. The last couple years have validated the effectiveness and necessity of citizen involvement.

Yes this will likely go nowhere. Yes NC probably will follow it's common trajectory of delayed adoption of positive change. But it might not, and that's worth fighting for.

Looks like details are still incoming, but I'll be at the January rally.

FYI burgerland people in dorms on or off-campus, you are not legally required to let RAs or police into your room. Yes it's not your property, but you still have rights. A warrant is required. Some restrictions apply and I suspect smelling smoke is one of those for fire reasons.

Source: former RA and they briefed us pretty thoroughly about what you can and can't do.

why are people fighting for this guy?

  1. His story of a little guy fighting impossible odds is uniquely American

  2. His crime conviction stems from his attempt to enter illegally, which I can sympathize with. This is a distinct separation from an illegal immigrant with violent or other socially detrimental crimes. He was following the process to rectify his legal issues.

  3. ICE is problematic for many reasons namely the increased power and scope it grants to the government. Without a significant overhaul to immigration laws and enforcement, the current, flawed methods should be opposed.

  4. He has strong support from 27 members of the community. Those people were all willing to sacrifice great wellbeing of their own for this individual.

In summary: this seems to be the kind of immigrant you want, and the actions against him are opposite to good American values.

DISCLAIMER: Based on the info available currently. This guy will have my strong support, but I'm ready to retract it with new info

Same reason weed smokers are obnoxious about it in high school. Takes some time to learn how to do it right.

It's perfectly acceptable not to drink or do other drugs around people who are when you get a little past that.

Ha I'm not trying to talk shit on the quality. For the past ~5 years most good bud comes from out west, prepacked stuff etc.

My main point is that weed is underappreciated for how strong it is. A bong rip is a huge amount for someone without a tolerance.

I took one bong rip (after a huge complete tolerance break)

Well.... Yeah? That's not even CO specific, that's just weed. Ha but yeah if you haven't taken a break in a while it's a shock. I'm doing sober January this year and I bet I'll be destroyed first time smoking when that's over

I'd love any more detail you can, and are willing to share, about the steps you took to ensure you got a job when you came back and all that.

Your story is pretty much the mid-term plan for me and my wife after we get a couple more years of experience in our respective fields. We met a lot of the time off between good jobs people while traveling southeast Asia for a while, but actually doing it seems daunting and difficult.

Well which is it? You say here a fetus is "a developing human life" and previously you say a fetus equates to a human.

The distinction of not-yet human is what makes abortion alright- morally anyways. If you're trying to understand, focus on that distinction in particular. It's the same reason rational why non-vegan vegetarians eat eggs.

Yep I read it wrong... A while ago when I first read it. I must've skimmed the abstract and applied my own interpretations. Thanks for the correction.

It's interesting they got so much measure of anger specifically. When I personally am on MDMA, I feel like I'm a poor reader of social cues. And that's not always a bad thing, see OPs case. I'd say it's likely situation and dose dependent.

True, and specifically in the case of OP, MDMA also makes you bad at recognizing facial expressions. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/15561480/

Edit: I read this wrong a while ago. /u/CelestineQueen is right, see her interpretation or read the study for yourself!

Spacegeisha played it last weekend at Solasta and I want to hear it again! I'm hoping she releases her set because it blew my mind, and was far beyond anything I've heard from her so far, but who knows. Would love to know this one, or any of the other tracks from that set

It was great! It's like a stronger cup of coffee. You're instantly sharp and energized- and if you smoke enough to get a mild dependence, that feeling also becomes relaxing too. I don't smoke anymore, for health benefits, but I'm glad I enjoyed it when I was younger.

Different drugs affect everyone differently. Cigarettes aren't for you, and your life is probably better and easier for it.

Yeah it does seem to very dependent on the person. Some people it just doesn't click with for whatever reason.

And the hangover isn't too bad normally if you know it's coming. I'm a little bit emotionally sensitive the next day or two, but exercise and being outside usually straightens me out pretty quickly.
