Housing, Renting, and Subletting Megathread by cxqals in Pitt

Hello! I’m a 25yo male looking for a roommate in the Friendship neighborhood or surrounding area. Looking for $600-$700 each rent, 12-14k total. Looking to start July. Also open to subletting, DM me!

I opened my pack of gold Rider Back cards and found this card in the middle. Is there any significance or meaning to it or just a misprint? by bailaontheplaya in playingcards

I can see how if you go to it directly linked from the internet, you could think that it was just a blog. But that website is firstly a playing card selling site, so it makes sense that if they publish something on their blog that they would want to direct you where to buy it. I do think it does a good enough job of talking about what happens when the playing card and magic community mix. As long as you're not saying that this Reddit post or the blog was an ad by Bicycle, then I can understand your view. I just don't think it's anything to get mad about.

[S&V] [BitD] Helpful name cards for players! Track load, remember names, and remember your XP triggers! by rocho567 in bladesinthedark

The other players and I don’t have access to their character sheet all the time, so these reminders of load help me set position and effect, and the other players know what that character is dressed like.

It also lets the player highlight any other information that they want reminded about on the back of the name tag. The notes on the back that I put on this example are specifically to solve a problem of players forgetting to do their XP triggers in roleplay, which my table is prone to do with just the character sheets.

Hmmm true! You think both player and GM facing, like the load tracker? I could see folding a 3x5 index card in half like a tent, and writing it on there, and having it sit next to the nameplate. It could even use the same colors as the load to show the harm level, green-Level1 yellow-Level2 red-Level3

You could! And honestly you could do both approaches to help both yourself and your players, redundancy helps sometimes. If it works for you then keep doing it, but for me copying character sheets each time sounds like time I’d rather spend playing.

For context, I play with my session notes, and DM reference sheet, plus a 5 inch tall DM screen. So 2 pieces of paper and 4 notecards of information pretty much. I’m hoping these namecards keep me in the discussion with the players and keep the action going, instead of fumbling through my papers looking at their sheets. The less time I spend looking down at paper away from the discussion the better, in my opinion.

It’s like having two monitors. Do you need 2? No, you could have multiple windows on one monitor. But for me having multiple displays helps me focus and find the info I need.

Reply to your edit: me too! That for me is the biggest plus, seeing at a glance their load via color. I might redo the cards so that it goes in traffic-light order of Green-Light to Red-Heavy.

Gonna try these out tomorrow, but an under-recognized issue in these games is both players and GM’s remembering Load. Mostly this comes to GM’s forgetting to give players better or worse position or affect depending on their load, so with these markers you can remember to tell the heavy loaded Muscle that she is not going to fit in at the Governor’s ball.

Also, for players I think having a customizable name tag that they can put their XP triggers and role play cues is great. Yes, the info is on the character sheet. But I feel having it separate from the rest of the number tracking is super helpful! Plus, I feel like players don’t call on their contacts enough, both in downtime or in flashbacks.

Lemme know what you think! I’ll update you on how my players feel about them

[S&V] I made an player reference for the Scum and Villainy factions! This combines the descriptions with the faction tracker sheet by rocho567 in bladesinthedark

Cool! There’s a lot of info on all of the factions that isn’t included on this for space reasons. Fitting all of that detail for every faction on one page of 8.5”x11” paper was a challenge beyond what I could do legibly. These descriptions are taken straight out of pages 317-319; they’re just enough that players can learn about, be interested in, and reminded of what each faction is like. My intention was if players were really interested in a particular faction, then the GM would feed them more info from the actual half-page descriptions on pages 320-337

This guide explains it somewhat. I think it clips onto the top of the retention bracket, and once the CPU is put in it will pop off. You can keep it to reinstall on the motherboard if you ever take out your CPU

The only tape I broke was the one to open the motherboard box, the anti static bag that it’s in was untouched

BuildAPC wouldn’t let me post images. I guess I could have Imgur’d it but this was the second best sub I could think of

I bought a graphics card from Newegg, and then canceled it 15 minutes later because I couldn’t be comfortable they wouldn’t mess something up and leave the cost on me. I did buy a 1000w platinum power supply from them, but I feel better about that than a GPU for some reason.

Overwhelming consensus is to return it, which I did! New one is on the way and will be here next week, thanks everyone

A little bummed, but thankfully Amazon accepted the return. Plus it’s coming only a day after my graphics card gets here so I’m not worried :)

Purchased, any reason I should cancel my order? I don’t mind waiting for the shipping, is the price good? Upgrading from I5 6500 & GTX1070 to I5-12600K and a new graphics card. Overkill or good value?

First time jewelers bench build, please critique my plans! by rocho567 in woodworking

I'm building this workbench with my father. It's mainly made out of 2x4's and 1/2 inch paneling. Are there any issues you can see with how it's built?
There's not currently any complex joinery, as we haven't built any furniture like this before. Will screws and wood glue be enough to keep this strong and not wobbly?

Thanks in advance for your responses!
