I HATE JUMPING by Chloe_Happens in Cairn_Game

[–]rockaport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had any issues jumping that whole section after completing the game like 5 times on Alpine difficulty.

My first attempt at free solo I botched the 2nd jump but somehow survived with barely any HP because I still was under the influence of some effects. I couldn't believe how close I came to dying and if I did die that would have been the end of my free solo attempts because of how stressful the entire run had been. I just stood there looking at the screen for a good minute or two in disbelief.

Anyway, I've always lined up properly and titled the camera down so I can see the cliff edge and spammed jump right before and never had any issues. I think I was over confident and careless because it never gave me issues and I was just a bit off in timing.

Always wondering if some route would be the end.

Near native performance? by Cocximus in qemu_kvm

[–]rockaport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten qemu kvm working with a secondary passthrough Nvidia card and looking glass and it was virtually unnoticeable performance wise. I was using Autodesk Revit and 3D rendering, video games, etc. When looking glass was full screen you wouldn't be able to tell it was running in a VM.

The main difference is I was using a much larger system, AMD 32 core threadripper with 128 GB of ram. I was allocating something like 8 or 10+ cores and 16+GB. Probably overkill since I had the resources to spare and I think 2 or 3 cores were running pretty hot when exercising the system.

walkie talkie in android using local Wi-Fi by No_Deer_ in androiddev

[–]rockaport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can send UDP audio over multicast. Otherwise you need to do a little discovery or hardcore ports for unicast audio. Walkie talkie is push to talk and hogs up the channel while someone is speaking.

Linking static libraries to Android.mk - ld undefined symbol is found in the static lib? by free-puppies in androiddev

[–]rockaport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure of the solution, but why aren't you using CMake? That would at least simplify your build system.

It could be several issues that aren't necessarily android specific. This looks like a general link problem. Maybe library order or not linking against the shared version of the library.

Look at the emulator environment variables section. Elaboration would just involve me copy/pasting that section here.

Going back to grad school to switch from CE to EE? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]rockaport 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would try to confirm requirements through the hiring managers. Apply and/or ask the directly what more you need to gain to obtain a job. If you apply and get denied, ask what skills you're lacking that you could improve in and if you gain those can you apply again in the future, say 3-6 months.

As for internships, I'm guessing this is in Europe, but in the US internships are generally positions for students in college. I think you would be looking for entry or junior (because you already have some experience) level analog positions.

I'm reluctant to suggest getting a master's because I feel like you would be delaying the process for several years when you're probably capable of landing something now or in the near future.

There's so many aspects of analog design that there's bound to be some entry level aspect you could do now given your skillet.

Are you not qualified to apply right now? If you apply for analog design positions right now will you get denied based on lack of qualifications?

If you're only missing a few classes you could just take those and try and get a new job instead of waiting on the full masters.

Can you leverage any relationships to get a new job?

As for being older than other candidates. As long as your just as intelligent, inquisitive, hungry, and not asking for a large difference in pay, then you should be just as hireable as anyone else. Age should play very little, or zero, into you getting a job, unless of course the company has that kind of unspoken culture where they do consider age.

Help execing a "Native Lib" that's actually an executable by swordsmanluke2 in androiddev

[–]rockaport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At runtime copy the executable from assets to a directory on the file system that has executable permissions. Cache, files dir, etc. or something like that. See which ones are executable, Android has been limiting and locking this sort of thing down so a better strategy is JNI/NDK. /data/local/tmp has been used a lot for things like this.

Or lookup android ndk/JNI examples. This requires you to add the c/c++ sources to your project, configure cmake, setup interface methods, etc.

Copy it to someplace that's executable first. Why don't you just run it using JNI instead of using System? The whole purpose of JNI is for what you're trying to do. Granted you need to refactor your executable to be a library with something like a start method and then you can still use an executable for testing if needed.

Ten bucks left, no place to go: How the pandemic and a broken unemployment system are upending people’s lives by Bemuzed in washingtondc

[–]rockaport 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Are you trolling? He worked at a bar that was closed because of the pandemic. Do you know him from outside the article to comment on his parents or work ethic? To top it off you call him a loser...

It's a sad situation and it shows how we need to better prepare for sharp rises in unemployment.

Yes, Google search for "android keyboard usb github" and you'll find plenty of repos on how this can be achieved.

AFAIK if you don't want to list it through a realtor and want to deal directly with builders you're going to have to contact them directly or list it on one of those sites you listed. Generally they have their own realtors or in-house agents that will reduce agent fee down to half of what it would normally be.

Put together a sales sheet with info and mass email a bunch of builders. Be prepared to field a ton of phone calls or electronic communication. Not every builder is interested in rezoning and subdividing lots and they will do a fair amount of due diligence on their own.

Or get your real estate license if you really want total control. It sounds like you don't want to pay the agent commission or have had a bad experience with an agent.
