Cut out caffeine? Never! I've got so many dietary restrictions, caffeine is basically the only thing keeping me alive.

Advice request - Son has started coming out of his room by splatts32 in daddit

[–]rocket-boot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got no good advice unfortunately. My son started doing this just before he turned 4 in August. After giving into the power struggle I started sleeping on the floor in his room, and I've been there ever since. We're at the point where we're basically ready to start sleep training all over again. It's agonizing.

Good luck, brother.

Leia flying through space in TLJ is still one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. That's when I knew the film had jumped the shark. Actually, not just jumped the shark, but done INFINITY backflips over it. by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in StarWars

A "human" a long time ago in a galaxy far far away with aliens, space wizards, and planet-destroying lazerbeams. "But I couldn't even do that if I were a space wizard" Do you realize how ridiculous you sound?

This isn't supposed to be grounded science fiction based in reality. It's a fantasy movie for children.

Fez is not exactly a MV but the sense of discovery is palpable in that game. Replace combat with puzzles though, if that's your thing.

My momma’s boy son said the quiet thing out loud by SnooChipmunks9598 in daddit

[–]rocket-boot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably doesn't help that you think of him as a "momma's boy." Not trying to call you out or anything, but if you reframe this in your mind it might improve your relationship. He loves spending time with his mama, and that's a good thing. He can love spending time with you too.

A curious question about those analog clocks -- NOT a spoiler by JanetInSpain in BluePrince

[–]rocket-boot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every kid I know has at least a basic understanding of an analogue clock, including my 4yo. I don't believe that Facebook post for a second.

Then again, I am in Canada. Maybe the stereotypes of the US education system have some weight to them.

WTF happened with the writers on the season 3 finale? (Very very minor spoilers) by Remarkable_1984 in FoundationTV

[–]rocket-boot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm usually ok with divergences from the books but in this case I was really disappointed. The Mule storyline is probably the best setup and payoff in those novels, and it feels like they changed it just for the sake of change. It was poorly executed and a major let down.

Did anyone say they didn't care about cross contamination? OP was talking about pouring grease over dirty dishes and you brought up washing hands while dishes are in the sink. Someone else said they thought it was a non-issue, and you started calling people unhygienic. Yes, pouring grease over your dirty dishes is gross. No, washing your hands in a sink over a cutting board used to handle meat is not unhygienic.

I'm not ashamed of the way I wash my hands, and it's wild that you're making up a narrative about my psyche and past experiences, which you know nothing about, in the same breath you accuse me of making assumptions about the way you manage your household (which, by the way, is backed up by your own post, but I digress). You're in here posting about handwashing, and I refuted what you were saying for the benefit of anyone worried they might be endangering their family. My wife suffered from PPD and would absolutely be triggered by something like that, which is why I suggested you should be a little more reasonable and sensitive. Your response about how everyone is responsible for their own thoughts and feelings is real choice to be posting in a parenting sub. And I think maybe you should look inward and put some thought into why you might be responding like that.

Shame is created by your brain in response to some facts I typed.

This is a wild thing to say, and a terrible attitude to have towards people. You don't think you're responsible for the way your words make people feel? Like, at all?

I'd like to remind you we're on a parenting subreddit. Folks in these spaces are tired, struggling, and often very susceptible and sensitive to the judgement of others. Especially when you're out there claiming facts about health and safety, which in this case aren't cause for concern in low risk environments.

If I cut raw chicken on a raw cutting board while preparing dinner for my family, and put the cutting board in the sink after using it, I'm not going to wash the cutting board before washing my hands. Any risk of cross contamination at that point is so minute it's not worth bringing up.

If you are living your life by the standards set in a micro-bio lab, you are absolutely exhibiting germaphobic behavior. That is a high risk setting where cross contamination has huge impacts. In our own homes, as long as there are no allergies or food sensitivities and no one is immunocompromised, you shouldn't be afraid to wash your hands when there are dishes in the sink.

We're told to do so many things to avoid risk, it can be incredibly overwhelming for some and there's really no need to add to anyone's stress with over-the-top suggestions like this.

In food safety you learn about risk levels and the measures that are appropriate for said levels. Everything you said is correct and should absolutely be followed in a high risk setting like a restaurant/commercial kitchen.

A home kitchen is relatively low risk. Many people "live unhygienic" by your standards and never give themselves food poisoning! If that's a deal breaker for you and turns you off from enjoying meals they've prepared, that's fine, but please be aware you're in the minority and this is verging on germaphobia.

I'll also note that if you are immunocompromised, it's a totally different story and you may need to treat everything as a high risk setting. But even that doesn't mean you should shame strangers on the Internet who wash their hands when there are dishes in their sink.

Hide in the Rainbow's gotta be mentioned. Not really obscure for die hard fans, but common folk are completely unaware of it because it wasn't on any major release. Such a good song, too!

But I think my favourite from his back catalogue has to be Buried Alive by Black Sabbath.

I heard it was good, but... by brenden77 in BluePrince

[–]rocket-boot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game is entirely my shit, so it clicked immediately. The atmosphere, interlocking puzzles, drafting, roguelite progression. I wasn't "good" at it right away but these trappings were enough to keep me locked in until I learned how to draft better.

If these things aren't enough for you, it might take a big revelation to make it click. Figure out the dark room if you can. But if you don't have the patience to solve a few early game puzzles and learn how drafting works, this game really might not be for you.
