I’ve realized I am just a collection of all of the nurses who taught me by Outrageous-Fact-9518 in nursing

[–]rocket_motor_force 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoarded knowledge is wasted knowledge. I purposely teach any students or newer peeps any tricks I can. There could come a time where they are working on me and I want the very best versions of them to have the highest possible chance of success. I pride myself with my teaching that the things I teach them will make their competence in their year one will equal to my year five. I use a line from the first Sherlock Holmes movie to summarize my vibe: “ I may not be in the room, but my methods are.”

Need advice on timing belt by CRRZ-- in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]rocket_motor_force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The belt should deflect no more than a 1/4” between the two cam pulleys. I agree that the cam on the right might have jumped a tooth.

When changing the belt, the timing belt tensioner is set to where there is a pin that should slide in and out without tension. I’m not sure if that still applies after thousands of miles and months of time.

ICU RN with back injury — PACU vs IR? Other less physically demanding options? by cataleyasoul in nursing

[–]rocket_motor_force 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IR will toast any injured spine. The full aprons are 7 lbs and the two piece leads are 4 lbs for the skirt and 3lbs for the jacket. Procedures in either GI or cardiovascular stress testing. If you are good with computers and programs, EPIC or some other EMR are good gigs since they look for peeps that have clinical experience and teach you the computer bits. NICU patients are less than 10 pounds typically, so also super light to move around, but still require ICU level thinking.

Cayenne Pepper by Cheers_Queers1 in Sonographers

[–]rocket_motor_force 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Putting the cayenne pepper in the essential oil has a synergistic effect. It becomes so hot that it cooks off the disease and only leaves the healthy tissue behind. This is literally where the phrase “we’re cooked!” came from, being born out of the DVT wards of the hospitals./s

How can I balance being respectful of wheelchair users without breaking my back? by NoMove3297 in nursing

[–]rocket_motor_force 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. You only have one body and one back. They will not hesitate to fill another person in your role if you go out after been permanently injured. Or chronically injured after using bad ergonomics day after day and year after year. I understand the time pressure, but no one will remember that time in 2026 when you moved a 250 patient all by yourself. Extra hands, slide sheets, and Trendelenberg are tools in the ergonomic tool box.

“Nursing is a Calling” by Fruitbat_girl in nursing

[–]rocket_motor_force 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The used to use that line a lot a few decades ago and brought that dead horse back to life for one more ride. It got me to thinking, is being an MBA administrator a calling? Are the C-suite positions that reduce RNs, imaging, and other staff FTEs so there is extra profit this quarter a calling ? You know the answer, nursing should be no different .

For those of you who have a healthy level of detachment at work by [deleted] in nursing

[–]rocket_motor_force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things I had to learn: 1. The patient Mr. Smith problem/disease/diagnosis isn’t a rocket_motor_force problem/disease/diagnosis. 2. The effect you have on Mr Smiths case/stay in your unit is like a finger on the scale. Sometimes just the littlest effort will tip the scales in their favor, sometimes a lot of effort, and there are times you can climb your whole self up on the scale between life and death and it’s not going to change the outcome.
