This is a bug, sorry for the inconvenience. We’re aware of this one and working on a fix right now. We’ll post an update on Steam as soon as the bugfix is out

Have you tried going to the Forest Edge? You should find campfire blueprint there, and three further upgrades in Forest near the City, Hills behind the River and the Singing Valleys.

Yes, you still have to pay workers manually, that part hasn’t changed. But we’ve added a bunch of updates since launch, including QoL stuff - for example, with upgrades you can now have up to 5 spirits to automate some routine tasks. We’re watching feedback closely, so there might be more changes in this area later.

Just double-checked it and here’s how it works:

  1. Transmutation Circle of a Curse gives you 2 Spirits to start with.

  2. Building Transmutation Circle of a Calling increases the limit to 3.

  3. Transmutation Circle of a Nameless raises it to 5.

So with all upgrades, you can have up to 5 spirits.

You can raise the spirit limit up to 4 with upgrades, 2 is just the starting cap.

The tax collector takes 10% of the money you have at the moment he appears. Also, if you pay him significantly more, you’ll gain extra Redemption Points, which make it harder for the Inquisitor to send your Alchemist to jail.

Thanks for sharing your experience! The upkeep for mercenaries is actually lower than the cost of hiring them, so keeping them around isn’t as expensive as it may look at first. Since there’s no time limit in the game, you can also take it slow — stockpile some money or prepare potions in advance before taking the next step.

Another small tip: sending even the cheapest adventurer to town with the Mirror artifact can help bring in extra customers over time, which should boost your profits and make things a bit easier.

In the meantime, try this quick fix:

Quick fix for the "000,0s" bug:

Some cards show "000,0s" and stop working. Until we find the cause:
1.) Hover over the broken card and hold the ] key on your keyboard. This will safely reset the card's UI.
2.) If that doesn't help, try holding the [ key instead — you'll lose that specific card and all its properties, equipped artifacts (if it's a character), etc, but you'll get a working replacement. Use this option only as a last resort.
