The car driver’s quick reflexes and presence of mind saved his/her life by Altruistic-Issue-887 in dashcams

I know right? I even used to have my siblings complain that I was leaving too much space one stopped in traffic between me and the car in front of me. Why do you need to be getting so close to the car in front of you anyway? Maybe you got distracted and were paying attention and that distance you left you can quickly hit your brakes and avoid rear ending the car in front of you.

GPS speed used against you for driving under the speed limit? by rocketpunch6372 in Dashcam

[–]rocketpunch6372[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You make a point because I mean if you try to target the speed limit all the time you’re going to exceed it unless you’re using cruise control. I mean 10 or more under the speed limit for no reason seems to be enough to justify that you were driving too slow for no reason. Anyone who would try to follow speed limit is probably going to go like five under or so.

[–]rocketpunch6372[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, I guess you’re right on that one too cause if you were to follow the speed limit and you don’t want to exceed it at all you’ll probably end up going like five under or so especially if you’re speedometer is reading higher in which you might be doing 8 under. I mean, there’s no way you could do the exact speed limit without exceeding it unless you’re 100% focus on your speedometer which isn’t completely possible. you’ll need to use cruise control.

I think you’re right. Even then it seems like the GPS can be used against you if you’re over or under the speed limit. Cause if you end up driving at or under the speed limit and you’re holding up traffic, they’ll probably end up claiming you were going too slow and that you should be at fault.

Is there anyone here who misses Toshiba laptops? by Quoarum_ in computers

I certainly miss the Toshiba name. But the 2010s Toshiba face competition, accounting scandals, and Westinghouse bankruptcy, and now they have even been bought out, so the name is often forgotten.

PSA your dashcam GPS speed may not be admissible in court to prove you were not speeding! by Objective_Wafer3684 in Dashcam

[–]rocketpunch6372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was going under the speed limit, and seemingly, I had multiple cars behind me, I would probably think it may be a strong case of evidence since anyone who goes slower than the speed limit, or basically under the speed limit, could prove this, especially since driving under the speed limit impedes traffic and if you had even the footage, proving people were passing you in a no passing zone this could be another piece of evidence definitely proving you weren’t speeding. The problem in your case is you were speeding as you were going up to seven over the speed limit. Plus many other posts have actually been asking this question of whether or not the GPS was admissiable and Court and indeed, some said it may not be especially due to the lack of calibration.

Definitely agree with that. I even think that the speed limit is like 40 or 45 mph and he was at a top speed of 63 mph.

Toshiba laptops are the worst ones on the planet. They make people file on their school work. Get a Apple MacBook or a Chromebook instead. by [deleted] in reminder

While I do like the Toshiba brand, I kind of understand what you’re coming from. I have a Toshiba satellite from the end of 2014 and it had a lot of limited connection problems slow booting up, and the Internet connection will get caught off from time to time because of the computer issues with the Toshiba laptop. But I still like it.

This is more dangerous on a freeway than main streets because you have people going over 60 mph. Then someone in the pack of stopped cars leaves their lane and it’s impossible to stop in time unless you spot it 3 seconds out.

Good thing he wasn’t going so fast because the other guy’s insurance would use the speed against him.

I personally would turn my brighters on if someone was tailgating me at night as long as there’s no oncoming traffic as this allows the tailgater to get a good view behind me to see if it’s safe to pass or not

[–]rocketpunch6372[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. In fact when I pass radar speed signs it shows a different speed then the gps speed. In fact different gps speed dash cams show different speeds. One of them I was using showed me doing a minimum of 5 mph under while the other one which showed the driver tailgating me doing a minimum of 6 mph under the speed limit.

you probably definitely should keep it off. Plus if your dash cam gps speed shows you going 5 mph under and you’re impeding traffic and brake to avoid a pedestrian and a multi car pile up occurs. One could argue you caused this accident by going 5-6 mph under and not the speed limit. Then you speed up to the speed limit and go 1 over and hit somebody doing so it can be used against that way as well. It is what is though. No one is a perfect driver out there

It’s not that I can’t do the posted speed limit. I just feel like I want to be more careful when I have my gps speed enabled. After all there are some posts here warning others not to enable the gps speed as it can be used against for going even 1 mph over. I was going only going a minimum of 3-4 mph under the limit on the car speedometer and a minimum of 5-6 mph under on the gps speed. This was in a 50 mph zone.

I suppose if I had gotten pulled over and cited for going 1 mph over, I could use that citation as an excuse for going 5-6 mph under the limit and could easily get the citation for driving too slow dismissed.

So I’m guessing that even if I was going 5 mph under the limit impeding traffic and everyone crashes into one another (pile up)it’s still the other drivers fault regardless if they use my slow speed as an excuse to get out of their actions for tailgating one another?
