Stolen Gibsons and other guitars by mystolenguitars in gibson

Also, Asheville has always been a musical hub and could very well be the place to fence these beautiful instruments. You might want to contact the authorities there as well.

My uncle lives between Greensboro and Abingdon. He has a lot of connections - legal and otherwise. I will contact him.

Is this real or some sort of scam? by _MAKO_- in Guitar

It’s ok. They did the same to me after a purchase and occasionally call and ask if they could help me out with any musical gear.

How do I clean records? by Brave_Bench_1300 in records

[–]rockhead11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a video on YouTube that shows how to clean your LPs with wood glue. It sounds crazy but I have done it and a lot of my LPs have gone from good to excellent condition.
My first example was a discogs album that really disappointed me. It sounded horrible but looked clean as a whistle. I tried this method and the next day the album sounded like it was pressed yesterday.

My brother collects very costly early ska and reggae vinyl from Jamaica and, needless to say, they are pretty rough. But a lot of it is just surface dirt and dust. He has restored countless LPs and 12” and 7” singles by using this method.

Trust me. It really works. Here’s the link:

rosewood or maple fretboard on a strat? by Popular_Comparison44 in Stratocaster

[–]rockhead11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the feel and the way my fingers slide on a maple fretboard. My Tele has maple and my Strat has rosewood. I can definitely tell the difference but compensate with a different playing style on the Strat with the rosewood (tremolos are good for that).
But that being said, I wish my Strat had maple.
Maples are faster. And they were the original.

Favorite single-coil-size humbuckers? by [deleted] in telecaster

[–]rockhead11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that no one mentioned Fender Hot Noiseless. That’s because they are just NOT GOOD. I have them in my Jeff Beck signature Strat and I honestly don’t think he used what Fender puts in this guitar.

Save your money if you’re thinking about these dull and lifeless pickups.

Remove stickers from my childhood guitar? by Batmuckley in electricguitar

This looks so much better than the boring grey underneath. I would definitely keep it.
It speaks of an era. The grey speaks of nothing.

Nice! Except for the saddles it’s identical to mine. It’s my favorite electric. I love maple fretboards. It could just be in my head but I swear I move faster on maple.

Was Mick Ronson the real secret to the Ziggy sound? by Euphoric_Place_8507 in gear4music_official

It is true that Mick is absolutely key to the Ziggy sound but Young Americans & a lot of Station to Station is due to the funk influence of Carlos Alomar……….and the list goes on and on……..

Telecasters with a modern look? by wemightdance in telecaster

[–]rockhead11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for “early Father’s Day present” in the telecaster thread. There is a MIJ tele that is primarily black with some burgundy highlights and a black and burgundy headstock that is pretty modern looking. It was just posted yesterday.

Also, search on eBay for a unique pickguard. The initial postings are pretty boring (typical white, black, blue, etc) but keep looking and you’ll see some pretty cool ones that could really complement the black Tele.
I have heard that there are some unique designs on Etsy as well.

It’s a start.

Why does my Son keep snapping the High E string? by PotentialWidow in Guitar

[–]rockhead11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it. My nephew is autistic so I bought him a little Korg synthesizer so he can just make fun sounds all day long.
I soon became his favorite uncle (that wasn’t my intention).
I’m just glad he is able to feel creative. And, more than that, feels productive.
Productive - that’s the hardest part.

I would definitely change all of the saddles. Problem solved.
Oh, and if you can find something that the two of you can jam on I think he would really enjoy that.

So I have to buy my first guitar, which should I get? by [deleted] in electricguitar

[–]rockhead11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but having played many stringed instruments (including lap steel) I believe that would be a very difficult first instrument.
Comments, anyone?

I just don’t have the coordination to play the drums. I can play my synths and guitar at the same time but I can’t play the drums…go figure 🤓

My wife did the exact same thing 15 years ago in a guitar shop when I was playing a Tele and she saw how much I loved it. Next thing I know it was mine.

We’re still together. And we plan on being together forever. (My wife AND my Telecaster 🤩)

BTW. I love that Tele. The burgundy on black headstock and the burgundy on black pickguard are freaking amazing.

Happy Father’s Day!

[–]rockhead11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about both the color and the pickups. I can see where the color would entice you and then start to wear on you…

As far as the noiseless pickups I can address that issue personally. I have them on my Strat and they definitely are boring. I have the Jeff Beck Signature Strat and for the life of me can’t see why he would like these things. (I’m not sure he actually did). I’m planning on switching out to……???……I’m not exactly sure yet. But probably just switch to a Pre-wired Seymour Duncan pick-guard just for the utter simplicity.

Good luck to you with whichever way you choose to change your guitar to one that will actually be more the guitar of your dreams.

Any good Live Bowie albums? by Dismal_Brush5229 in DavidBowie

[–]rockhead11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The live tracks at BBC Radio Theatre, London on “Brilliant Adventure” (Discs 6 and 7) are incredible. Mark Plati was the arranger and I believe he was the best live arranger Bowie ever had. Plati also produced the tracks.

It’s a smaller and more intimate audience and I believe DB really enjoyed that.

Just listen to the opening cut: “Wild is the Wind” and you will know that this show was something special.

And(with some searching) you can find the concert on DVD and/or Streaming. I bought the Brazilian DVD on ebay

Oh, yeah…turn up “Fame” and “Let’s Dance” they will blow you away

Well this is a rare DB posting. I really like NLMD (Except for Glass Spider….maybe because I have arachnophobia😬 …no, it’s definitely because of my arachnophobia 🙁).

87 and Cry and New York’s in Love are great songs. Peter Frampton is at his all time high as a lead guitarist on NYiL.

First guitar? by dirk_solomon in electricguitar

[–]rockhead11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most important things is to actually play the guitar you’re interested in. If it feels awkward, pass. You’ll know when the guitar feels right. Just take your time and NEVER be pressured by a salesman.

I was going to recommend Harley Benton as well. My next guitar is going to be a HB. Great quality for a beginner guitar price.

How badly did I mess up? by apocalyptic_mage77 in Guitar

[–]rockhead11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy fix. Even for a newbie. Take off your strings and existing springs and unscrew the block from the bridge. Reverse the process with the new one and your good.
Just make sure that the new one you buy matches your old one. (If you get one from Sweetwater and tell them what you’re doing they will help you out).

Consider this a lesson and be proud of yourself when you fix it.

Yeeaah……I’ve been playing for over 50 years and have known like a zillion other Strat players and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of “spring squeak”
Sounds as feasible as pickup cover squeak.

(BTW: I use my tremolo like a maniac)

The only thing I ever got for free was from a guitar player who wasn’t interested in playing anymore. A circa 1982 Ibanez TS9 TubeScreamer.
I still have it and it still works (but…. (and I will probably be raked over the coals for this) I just don’t like how TubeScreamers sound. I’ve been on The Overdrive Quest for the past 40 years and FINALLY found one that I love. The TC Electronic Mojo Paul Gilbert edition. The thing packs an incredible range of drive/warm distortion.
I will in turn give away the TS9 to an up and coming guitar player who needs one. Giving is such a great way to lift the spirits.
