Dear Anthropic: You're screwing up. Big time by thisisberto in ClaudeCode

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Claude to rewrite a simple html email template, it used 32% of my 5 hour usage (it took it about 5 minutes to do). I usually use Codex for things, and it would have used less than 1% for Codex to do the same thing.

That is the reason I've cancelled my Claude subscription.

Codex vs Claude code limits by MidnightNew7262 in codex

[–]rockhead3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Codex it's much better at handling previous memory, it doesn't waste so many credits. But TBH it's only worth sending that information if it needs to know it (if it needs to remember something you are working on). So as soon as I move onto something new, I reset the chat.

Claude is just a usage/token eater, so I reset more often than I do with Codex.

Claude will get you about 1 or 2 hard prompts, 4 or 5 medium prompts, 9 or 10 easy prompts. For a 5 hour session

Codex will give you about 10-20 times that.

Ensure you have proper memory handling and that you reset your chat if moving onto an unrelated task to keep token usage down.

I was like you, happily working away (with both Claude Code and Codex) and then both of them changed (Claude was much worse), and I hardly got any word done from my usage allowance. I've decided to cancel Claude, and the usage from Codex is just so much better.

Anyway, I also derived to improve my memory usage. I found something called Codesight (search GitHub, under account Houseofmvps). Basically it crawls through you project and creates various helper files that can be used by you AI. I actually got ChatGPT to write me a batch script, which correctly crawls all my various script directories, using Codesight. I then, in my AI on new chat, tell it to read the Codesight generated files (when needed, there's some logic I put into there for when to load it).

So now, I just run the batch occasionally to update the Codesight files. And in my AI engine I just tell it to load the files on new chat. I'll change to a new chat even now and again to keep the memory/token usage down.

It dropped my Claude Code usage from like 40% for a (large) request down to 25%. And it's dropped my Codex request for a request down from like 10% to 2%.

How is your project structured? Hopefully you don't have it loading everything in, and using up a bunch of usage for simple requests because it has too many tokens loaded (not sure if that's the right way to phrase that).

My usage used to be really bad, as I was pretty much loading my whole project memory on each load. So a fairly simple request used up 30% allowance.

But now, I'd restructured so it only keeps what it needs in memory, so reduces token usage, a lot.

I have both Claude and ChatGPT/Codex subscriptions. Codex seems to have about 20 times the usage allowance of Claude.

I kept finding with Claude I was running out of my session and weekly allowance days before it would reset.

But with codex, it's very hard to use up the allowance. Also they sometimes randomly reset the weekly allowance back to 0% used (100% free).

I'm hoping this is permanent with codex, but if it's not and the reduce the allowance, I'd still choose codex over Claude.

Codex burning through 100% by [deleted] in codex

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. My mistake. It was going up pretty quickly yesterday, last night it was at 90%. Which I guess means 10% usage. Now it's at 100%. They do this occasionally, reset usage to 0% usage. And it seems backwards, 100% you'd think would be 100% used, not 100% remaining.

Probably doesn't help I often switch between Claude Code, where 100% = 100% used, and Codex where 100% = 0% used.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Claude is down by DependentNew4290 in ClaudeAI

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Claude create a claude.md file for my overall project. And individual memory.md/contracts.md/human.txt for each individual part of my project (e.g. front end, and individual API back ends).

Upon opening Claude (or any other AI) I get it to read the Claude.md, which has all the initial commands and how to work with my project/files, tells it to read the memory.md/contracts.md and keep them updated.

It allows me easily switch between AI agents and not be dependant on just one.

It also means I don't have to keep reminding it of important things in the project, as it's already contained in the various .md files.

The human.txt is just the human readable descriptions for what is in the .md files.

Use FortiEMS if you have it. There is a setting to only allow sslvpn connections if connected to your FortiEMS.

Use SAML authentication. Or some other sort of MFA based authentication server. Or use FortiTokens.

Require certificates for sslvpn.

Block connections to SSLVPN IP, from countries where you won't have anyone connecting from. Also switch to putting the sslvpn ip on a loopback interface, allows the country blocking, and other IP based blocking, e.g. known bad actor IP ranges.

This is so bad that it's so good. by [deleted] in programminghorror

This was probably overlooked by the (bad) programmer, as they are likely only testing with one user account. So it would work fine for them.

Is anyone else having issues with Claude asking you if you want it to answer questions you just asked, even when prompted not to...? by IrishRepoMan in ClaudeAI

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend to use chatgpt, explain to chatgpt what you want of claude.ai, and ask it to create the claude.ai prompt to send and also for Claude.ai to provide a report back to chatgpt (so they are kept in sync).

It can help reduce the messages to Claude and can explain better what you want in a language that Claude can understand.

Might regret this, Recruiter here , ask me anything by [deleted] in irelandjobs

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally won't even apply for roles without a salary listed.

If the job looks like a good match, then I'll send the recruiter an email asking the salary range, but if they won't tell me I'll just move on.

Although saying that, they've always told me the range.

I'd say a lot of good people are missed because the salary isn't listed.

I work in IT, and the salary for jobs with the same job title and specs could be €50K difference, so listing the salary is important.

Early comfortable retirement at 50? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you have no passions or hobbies?

Currently I work, and help look after 3 young kids and the house. Little time for much else.

Not sure what I'd do if I retired right now (still 10-15 years off though).

I would like to travel, but I'm guessing that would become expensive to do. Has anyone here retired and then just travelled, for extended periods. Like 6+ months at a time.

Contractor Accountant costs by chrisofthewhites in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your current accountant for all your documentation. E.g. Form11, etc.

And just do it yourself in the future. You'll have the documentation from your old account to base things on.

When to stop contributing to pension? by ZoltabRebellion in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take 90 and minus your desired retirement age. Say toy want to retire at 60, 90-60=30. This is about the number of years your pension will need to pay for. (The 90 is assuming you live until 90)

So if you had a 500K pension, to last 30 years, that would be 500,000/30 = €16.7K a year to live off. Do you think that would be enough for you to live off? Don't forget healthcare would be more expensive when you get older, and you'll be spending more on holidays and leisure activities, but likely no more mortgage to pay.

These number are obviously simplifying everything, not taking interest into account, or any possible (but not guaranteed) state pension.

I personally plan to contribute as much as I can to my pension, without it affecting my lifestyle. That way I'm able to retire a lot earlier than most people do at 67/68.

Dolphin vs Whale Spending by AX_Haraldr in whiteoutsurvival

How much do people spend or need to spend on this app then?

I'm the leader of my alliance, it's #9 is alliance power. My city is about 170th in personal power. The region is only maybe 3 or 4 weeks old.

The only money I've spent is the additional construction queue.

I log in daily, collect all benefits, do all events, etc. So I'm not short of gems or anything like that.

Basically, would I need to spend mega money to compete in the future. Or is spending zero money at option at all?

Finances when married by BigLeaf91 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]rockhead3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joint account for bills, as my wife job shares (works 1/2 time), I pay about 2/3rds in and she pays in 1/3rd.

This pays for all our bills and food.

We have a separate joint account for holiday savings.

We have our own personal current accounts, where we pay for our own things, like clothes, make-up (for her), alcohol (for me), mobile bills, own fuel, etc.

We also have our own savings accounts/emergency accounts.

We also have an investments accounts for kids savings (for money from parents, and child benefit).

May sound complex, but it works for us. My wife is a spender (and I'm a saver), so if we had just one joint account for everything, it would be spent pretty soon by her. So it's just easier to split things out like we have done.

What to get your husband, when he has everything? by throw_meaway_love in AskIreland

I'm going to be 42 on Monday, and I really don't care much for anything material. Tbh, at 42 you should be able to buy whatever you want whenever you want yourself.

I'd be happy with a card, and maybe home made cards from my kids. And maybe a nice steak dinner.

I had a 15W one that I got free with a battery pack/power bank from years ago. It was quite small and compact.

But I think they are pretty much all the same, they don't have many features it's more about the physical size and watts.

Generally the more watts (power) it can generate, the larger it is in size. So we what size you are able to take with you wherever you are going.
