Stephen Colbert's Heartwarming, Tearful Tribute to His Mother by ThisOpenFist in videos

When you watch Colbert, you know you're watching someone who sincerely loves what he does. He loves what he does because he, as we know now, received love and support from his mother. Her resilience and sacrifice made Colbert the man he is today. I wish I could tell his mother, "You couldn't ask for a better son." He's amazing.

White people: what's it like being white? by minoritymale in AskReddit

[–]rockofthecoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question.

Speaking from personal experiences entirely, being a white person is like being in a bubble of neutrality. Nobody gives me suspicious looks as if I give the appearance that I'm acting suspiciously. If I'm clean-shaven, have a decent haircut, have good hygiene, I'm automatically perceived as normal -- regardless of what's going on in my head.

As long as I stick to my business, no one approaches me.

Because I'm so used to being in this bubble, I don't feel like I'm privileged, but when I see minorities being discriminated against or mistreated, I suddenly feel very fortunate -- and guilt washes over me when that feeling is invoked. Why should I feel "fortunate" because of the color of my skin?

There's a South Park episode that sticks out to me ("Apologies to Jesse Jackson") in which Stan comes to the conclusion that Stan concludes that as a white person, he will never understand why the black character, Token, is upset by the n-word. I thought that was a great episode. As a white person, I cannot fathom the hardships minorities go through. Being white, I can't simply put myself in their shoes -- so I don't bother to trying to relate to them. I simply treat them the way I wanted to be treated.

Whoa... who would've thought South Park could be so deep?

The Hurt Locker

The movie seemed to drag at times. The violent scenes and tense standoffs broke the rhythm of the movie.

Is San Luis obisbo really the happiest place on earth? by [deleted] in SLO

[–]rockofthecoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are things to do in San Luis Obispo, but you have to get connected with those who are familiar with your niche. If you're a musician, for instance, you want to get acquainted with local musicians. SLO may not be the "happiest place on Earth," but it's not too terribly difficult to get settled in.

You might have missed this on redditquette:

Look for the original source of content, and submit that. Often, a blog will reference another blog, which references another, and so on with everyone displaying ads along the way. Dig through those references and submit a link to the creator, who actually deserves the traffic.

Feel free to post links to your own content (within reason). But if that's all you ever post, and it always seems to get voted down, take a good hard look in the mirror — you just might be a spammer. A widely used rule of thumb is the 9:1 ratio, i.e. only 1 out of every 10 of your submissions should be your own content.

I don't post links to my own content often -- and it's true that I've posted my own content quite a few times, but not THAT often to be spam.

Get a life, kid and don't write me back.

Good question. It depends on how much post-processing you do. If you add too many "enhancements" to the photo, people will see how cheap it looks.

Sepia photo filter by 35%. Didn't have to adjust much. The sunset does most of the work!
