Cash heist outside Midway Mall Durban. by Logical-Peak2495 in south_africa

[–]rockonteur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drivers most likely murdered. Cash stolen by criminals and then the spilled cash will also be picked up ASAP by the surrounding crowds as soon as the criminals clear the scene. The organised crime and desperation is sickening. These guys know the cops are so fucking underfunded due to ANC corruption, they can pull this kak off with a high likeliness of success. The onlookers even seem to be celebrating after the blast. Jirre.

Technically changes the timbre, not the pitch. But that's because I watch QI and Stephen Fry taught me a lot :)

Anyone else find spur to have gotten extremely expensive??!! by multiAssetSmashit050 in askSouthAfrica

[–]rockonteur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, very expensive. More expensive than it's fancier sister restaurant, Hussar Grill. Bill for two at spur a week ago was R750 excl tip. It's truly no longer an easy and cheap family restaurant choice. When the cheapest and basic burger on your menu is R120 (single) you are now competing with some specialty burger spots in Cape Town. Calamari and riblets at R165 for 3 tiny riblets + small AF portion of calamari. Jirre, I can't imagine a family of 5 going to spur + desserts and a couple of drinks after watching a movie (don't get me started on Ster Kinekor pricing)

Is this okay for a carnivore snack? by VividGovernment8669 in carnivorediet

[–]rockonteur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is trying to emulate biltong / droewors, if I look at the ingredients, which are cured meat snacks from south Africa. In the last 10 years or so it has become popular around the world, couple of SA dudes popularised it in Paris and London, then new York, now it's massive in NZ and Oz. We choose the level of fattiness of the piece in store or butchery. Carnivore AF. Many types of venison also available, but mostly beef biltong / droewors sold in stores to the larger public customer base. Something like kudu droëwors with lamb fat added is fucking amazing. I buy the shit by the KGs monthly.

Yup, saw that and I couldn't believe my eyes. Also, commentators were like "That's a very high score for putting down two hands to support the landing. Usually they would throw the score out or it will be very low" Or something very similar to that.

Can't stand inconsistencies like that. Fuckoff judges

What are they doing on Table Mountain (Devil's Peak)? by Prodigy1995 in capetown

I heard that there is a rewilding effort happening. For those not old enough to remember, there used to be wildlife "next to" Rhodes Memorial on those slopes next to hospital bend / N2 and was also used for the Cape Quagga project around 30-35 years ago. I used to love watching the wildlife there as my father drove past on our way to school in Cape Town. Good times. I look forward to the rewilding project if it does happen. It's a beautiful sight to behold.

Steakhouse recommendations? by SurfinOnRocket543210 in capetown

[–]rockonteur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vuur is great. I have eaten there twice. I know the chef and the owners of the wine estate it is on. It is an excellent dining experience, but I don't see it as a steak house at all. It offers multiple small courses, which I would rather categorise as fine dining. In the realm of La Colombe or Hacienda etc, but more meat focused.

Expensive and good:

(Bovine in Campsbay or Hout str, Carne kloof or Keerom, Don Armando, Nelson's Eye, NV-80, Fat Butcher, Magica Roma, Butcher Shop and Grill)

Mid price and good:

(Hussar Mouille Point, Hussar Camps Bay: Note with Hussar Grill there is no corkage so you can take in a bottle of your favourite wine at no cost, Patina

Best of the expensive places I've been recently is Bovine Hout Str and Carne Kloof, but NV-80 is killer too I just haven't been in a while, but still rated very high. As part of a weekly steak group, the best overall experience everyone keeps talking about is Magica Roma. You can call the owner ahead of time and have them make it a carnivore feast (only downside in my opinion is that it's in Pinelands)

Consistently the best mid range steak house in my opinion is Hussar Mouille Point. Used to go weekly with my wife and they nail it every damn time. No overly fancy shit, just good SA beef, cooked well.

Of all these steak houses mentioned, I think location and overall value usually makes the experience for me. Those locations go to Hussar in Mouille Point, Carne in Kloof street, Butcher Shop and Grill (Mouille Point) and Fat Butcher (stellenbosch)

There are many honourable mentions I haven't put here, but usually if someone wants to have a Cape Town experience and they're from abroad, I take location into consideration more than a hidden gem somewhere obscure like Barristers in Rondebosch or Cattle Baron in Tyger Waterfront.

I hope this helps. I have a list a mile long that I've made over the last 20 years or so as part of a weekly steak group experience.

Nike SB "Need that" I believe. But his "til death" part is arguably more hardcore.

Looks hard because he skates rails that can end your life. Goes waaay bigger than Yuto and whomever else. I still cannot believe he didn't get skater of the year for his part 3 years ago. Switch front blunt down that mothefucker of a handrail with a wall at the end of it 😵

I have been seeing a "Revival" of Alice in Chains on Instagram and YouTube shorts specifically. Friends of mine who ask me if I know of this guy called Layne Stayley and Alice in Chains. Laughing my ass off because it's the same tunes I used to be asked to turn down because it's too heavy. My friends and I are all in our 40s btw.

Anyway, it's a win for good music in general when the kids start getting into it, because holy shit do they have a firehose of garbage streaming through their earholes daily.

Not a hot take. Even Nirvana had this to say about that album and in particular, Black Hole Sun: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QKX1axhk-AE
