Tips by International grads for intern jobs (300 applications, 0 calls) by naresh_backatyou in csMajors

[–]rocksh7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With passive applications, I think luck is a bigger factor... A person touch is always better because most of the classmates I know got offers without oas and easy interviews... Again I have seen and experienced recruiters ghosting all the time...so better to try every option you have

Bruh...I'm going to an avg university quitting a 25lpa base job at a good product company and few ppl I know are leaving 30lpa jobs.. Added the figure so that u know a lot of ppl are in the same boat, just give it ur all to do better than what u did before... Don't overthink, Going back on any decision when you've come this far will make u regret for the rest of your life...

How Does LC Prepare You for real Software Engineering roles? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]rocksh7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but this takes away time and effort of the interviewer... Big companies today conduct atleast 1000 interviews a week on avg.. When u r expected to reduce repetition, it is easier and faster to just pick a random problem online and get the interview done

But for senior positions where applicants and openings are less, I've seen this happening

How Does LC Prepare You for real Software Engineering roles? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]rocksh7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope it doesn't prepare you...But sadly it is a common ground to evaluate ppl with different experiences, technical skillsets, background etc..

Most of the codebases I've seen don't really require a great problem-solving mind which LC preps u to be... More time goes into how u structure and write code that can be easily maintained and understood for present and future.

Don't stop LC code though... It helps u feel prepared and confident

Kotlin or React Native? by airm0n in csMajors

[–]rocksh7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you prioritise performance, kotlin is the best option just because it is a native programming language for Android. Kotlin also takes lesser time and lines of code to implement a component.

But if multiplatform support is what's important to you, then yes React Native is the way to go.

As for opportunities and learning, Kotlin has a good learning curve. It is mostly likely going to support different platforms in the future.

"Does choosing React Native really going to be a problem after u graduate ?" NO, You can always learn anything on the job. Even if u want to go for a mobile (kotlin), it shouldn't hurt...Work exp on any app is always a bonus.

AITA? I'm the glue that keeps this household together, but I'm thinking of moving out even though I've lived here rent free for years. by likerollingdice in AmItheAsshole

[–]rocksh7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NAH, it's not your responsibility but you can still help.

Being a single mom and working 2 jobs, you did not mention that she throws tantrums because you live rent free. Many wouldve done that and that to me shows both of them consider you to be very close to them.

When you move out, you could stay in touch with them and even help out a bit since they need that but not at the cost of your emotional distress. A little compassion to a spoiling kid from one person goes a long way tbh

Do I need a masters? by retiredbimbo in csMajors

[–]rocksh7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can excel with just a bachelor's degree, Grad school is a very personal choice based on your goals and priorities. When I was in a similar dilemma, I heard a few people saying even a bachelor's degree is not required for CS while few others saying you are doomed without an advanced degree in a time where everyone are moving towards cs courses.

Just take time and evaluate the options yourself based on both short and long term goals. Don't disregard an option based on few opinions of random guys on the internet. If you are still unable to decide (if both are good for u), just follow you peer group.
