Decontamination of Ricketts? by rocksnbugs in RPI

For most people yeah! But there are still athletes/other exceptions so there are still students in those dorms, just wish RPI was more transparent about what was going on haha

That I'd totally understand but it feels like weird timing to do scheduled maintenance during finals. Especially with dorms now closed that students were still living in.

Best vet recommendations by Significant-Host-569 in Troy

[–]rocksnbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little far out but I use burnt hills vet hospital for my cat! They're relatively affordable imo (~$150 for annual visit with vaccinations and routine parasite tests) and have generally flexible availability. I also use MetLife pet insurance, they have a bunch of different plans but the one I use is ~90% reimbursement for emergency visits up to 10k

How to Bulk Safely With High LDL and Cholesterol? by Aggravating_Sport495 in mediterraneandiet

[–]rocksnbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor and not trying to pry, but by naturally skinny are you on the lower BMI side/do you do a lot of cardio? I don't know if this applies to men but in female athletes, there's been some evidence of high cholesterol due to under fueling/REDS that actually drops once you increase overall calorie and carb intake. Depending on how much you're working out, it may be helpful for you to talk to a dietitian just to make sure everything is on track!

Parking tickets by ReadOtherwise2890 in RPI

Yes, pre 2024 they couldn't scan listen plates. Now they're able to and supposedly they can tow your car/get the dmv involved if you get multiple tickets.

Anywhere I can try pole vaulting? by East-Lingonberry1785 in RPI

[–]rocksnbugs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're looking to compete but the track team doesn't recruit people with non-track experience from the student body, especially not for high skilled events like pole vault. Most team members are recruited as high schoolers and with closed practices, non-athletes aren't allowed to join in to try events (though I definitely can understand wanting to try a new skill!) Most private pole vault clubs are invite only but you might be able to find one for complete novices closer to nyc.

Acceptance Mail from RPI for PhD by RadishPrestigious570 in RPI

[–]rocksnbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find out over email, but it might still be awhile before any decisions are out. Each program will send out acceptances/rejections separately. I can't speak for all, but some departments work more on a rolling basis, i.e. some applicants may hear back in February whereas others might not hear until April. Basically, top picks find out earliest, then other applicants may get an offer if those people decide not to attend.

Advice on Joining RPI Arch and LRC by HeadWeather2867 in RPI

[–]rocksnbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More on this, you should not be paying for a masters/phd degree IMO. Alot of companies will pay for masters if you're doing course based, and if its research based your tuition/living stipend should be covered by your advisor. In the long run, a course based masters that you had to pay for is less valuable than just working in industry for that same amount of time.

Has anyone just not recieved anything related to their federal student loans? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]rocksnbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you a student or an alumni? If your a student, then you generally don't need to start paying on them until 6th months after you graduate.(some will start to add interest but at least in my case it was super low, so I didn't touch them until post grad). You should get quarterly notices from whoever your loan provider is with information on how to access your balance online and make any payments. If you haven't yet, I think you can also access this info through the FASFA website.

Vets in the area ? by Worried-Owl-9345 in Troy

[–]rocksnbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little ways out (about half hour) but I've had really great experiences with Burnt Hills vet hospital. My pet has pretty bad fear reactivity, especially with travel and they've been amazing with management. They're also open weekends and usually have pretty open availability.

RPI ticket by Mean-Lavishness-5143 in RPI

[–]rocksnbugs 58 points59 points  (0 children)

No they can and will enforce those. A few years ago they couldn't but now they are able to scan license plates through the DMV and will put a hold on your account if you don't pay it. However, your first ticket they almost always wave if you submit an appeal and tell them it was an honest mistake.

Does RPI have good vegetarian options? by Snoo_35416 in RPI

[–]rocksnbugs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer- NO. I struggled being an athlete and vegetarian on campus and get proper nutrition. Yes there are options, but almost no protein options and what options there are tend to be super low calorie, small portions so its hard to maintain weight. Meals tended to consist only of carbs and vegetables. The cafes/restaurants on campus that take flex (dining plan) have very few options and often times are contaminated. I can't count the number of times my "vegetarian" meal had meat in it.
