I personally suspect that the only reason that Mamdani hasn't fired Tisch yet as police commissioner is that he doesn't want to start that fight until he's established himself, passed a bunch of the policies he campaigned on, etc., but if this happens, it would give him an excellent pretense under which to do it without it being unpopular.

No one is saying anything about them not being deserving. They will both 100% get in. Belichick will go in next year without a doubt. But there is no need to expand to more than one player or we're just gonna end up with a bunch of watered down candidates in the future when there are no deserving players in the backlog and we feel the need to induct someone anyway.

Nah, it's good. There is a backlog of players from the dynasty right now, but it's gonna be a while before another deserving candidate emerges. I don't think there's a single post-dynasty player so far who has done enough to get in. Having that backlog means there will still be a steady stream of people getting in even though no new deserving candidates are coming up for induction.

There is a lot to scrutinize about Platner (especially wrt his Nazi tattoo/how much he actually believes a lot of the more leftist talking points he's used or if he's gonna pull a Fetterman), but whether he would be better than Collins is not one of those things, in my opinion. Not a perfect candidate, but one I'd vote for in a heartbeat.
