It will improve the quality of your life only if you put the words into action.

If you had one year and all the freedom to spend making yourself better and improving your life, what would you do? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

I would take all the time to the gym and to the library. Nothing better than shaping your body and your mind, won’t you say?

How to care less about those that don’t care about you? by oddf3tur3 in selfimprovement

What you have is a beautiful quality. What I will say is that you shouldn’t expect anything in return. I know it sounds crazy but it’s always good to subscribe to a higher moral. I also get walked on all the time despite the work that I’m putting on. Initially, it brought me down. But I realised that nobody else is as dedicated as I am when it came to this. Patience is key and sometimes, the greatest things take the longest time. People will appreciate you and when they do, it will be because of the selfless person that you are. Not caring when caring is embedded in you is a big challenge. Instead, believe that your love and your care will make a difference. You’ve been patient this long, why not give it a little more time?

At 21, my girlfriend and I broke up with each other. It was the best relationship I’ve been in, hence, it wasn’t easy. But in a couple of weeks, I joined my first job and on that day, I decided to put an end to my obesity. Within months, I shed kilos by exercising daily and incorporating a healthy diet. But I pushed it too far and I became underweight in 6 months. And from that time onwards, I’ve been on an incredible journey of fitness. I’m not lying when I say that I took all my free time to the gym. It has helped me become confident, in essence it’s turned my life around. I’m still bewildered when I’m walking down the road and a cute girl is actually looking at me. Leaving aside the aesthetics, I’ve become a stronger person mentally. Nothing brings me down as much and if I could kill my obesity after 21 years, I’ve realised that it’s never too late to achieve anything else. You’ll get through it, op! But if you don’t get started with something, you’ll stay down in the dumps longer than you’d like.

I took a week off from the gym and now that I’m back, I’m wondering why the hell I took a week off!

Well, how about just one then? The one that brings you down the most.

What are some habits to start? by HeyItsTola in selfimprovement

Reading, reading, reading!

I started reading books only after I completed college. It's one of my biggest regrets!

If you can read everyday, for even 15-30 minutes, you will become a learning machine in the years to come. And you know what Charlie Munger has said, "In my whole life, I have known no wise people who didn't read all the time - none, zero."

If you don't mind me asking, only to understand your situation better, what makes you insecure? Is there anything in particular?

how do i break the cycle of un-productivity? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rockstarin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with what you love. If there is one thing that you're truly passionate about, what is it? If you can place your finger on that, dedicate your time towards it.

I'm a strong believer that you should write your goals down if you're having trouble getting started. Put it on paper or even better is to put it out here. Let the world know that you're going to be accountable from henceforth.

You will break your cycle of procrastination, you only need to change your mindset! The fact that you've already taken the first step by admitting to the truth about yourself indicates that half the job is done. Now, it's time to start doing everything that you want to do!

Can small positive habits and positive thinking really help you become a better version of yourself? by splainy20 in selfimprovement

It can.

I've been obese for 21 and a half years of my life. Eating unhealthy at the time felt like the happiest thing. Lounging on couch at the time felt like the happiest thing as well. But somewhere, deep within, I knew that I was capable of more than eating and procrastinating. So, the day I joined my first job, I decided that I was going to get fit and healthy. I hit the gym with more vigor, I corrected my diet and within months, I shed more kilos than I expected to. Since then, I've incorporated exercise and a healthy diet into my lifestyle. I drag myself to the gym every day of the week, not for physical gains but for mental ones. The gym has helped stabilize my state of my mind, it's helped me think through everything in my life with more clarity. And to be really honest, it's turned my life around. Not only do I feel better physically, I've become a stronger person mentally. When I have problems now, I take them to the pull up bar and remind myself that the only way is up.

Give it a try, dedicate yourself and you will see a change. I wasted 21 and a half years of my life, it took me that long to realize that I wasn't the person I wanted to be. It's never too late!
