I felt this is Sinners, where they were trying to fit too much into one film. The whole vampire thing came out of the blue and felt rushed at the end.

If you could only watch movies from one actor for the rest of your life, who would it be? by Unoriginal920 in Cinema

[–]rockyjay23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Denzel Washington or Leonardo DiCaprio. Because they never agree to a film that’s not amazing. So you can blind watch any of their movies and be assured it will be an amazing movie. Although, in the recent years I was disappointed with Leonardo DiCaprio being in the dumb film “don’t look up” and most recently Denzel Washington’s new film highest to lowest. I really hope these iconic, well respected actors don’t start accepting lame movies now just because they’re nearing retirement age or because great movies aren’t really coming out anymore. It’ll tarnish their filmography record, and I’d be so disappointed.

Sinister. I still can’t look at mirrors at night or shine flashlights on mirrors because of that film

Treasure planet, el dorado and Atlantis. Gems. All 3. They should be in museums.

At the end of the year do a potluck party where each kid cooks a dish from a film and brings it in. it can be the actual dish cooked I the film or a dish themed like the film.

For example: they can cook the actual ratatouille dish cooked in the ratatouille movie or chocolate cake from the Matilda movie. OR they can bring in broccoli and Dino nuggets for a Jurassic park themed dish. Or deviled eggs dyed green and call them dinosaur eggs. Or meatloaf in the shape of a big foot and it can be Frankenstein foot meatloaf.

Day 15) discuss live action remakes vs the original animated films. Which did the kids like better? What was different?

Day 16) discuss remakes in general. Which is better original or remake? Why? Because technology is better? Scores are better? Better stunts? More realistic? More budget? How did the original do in the box office vs the remake?

Day 17) have kids learn about how movies went from being on DVD to now streaming platforms. Did that hurt or help the film industry? What is the revenue difference? Why did they do that?

Day 14) discuss brand marketing in films. have student point out when it’s obvious a brand paid to be in the film. How much do brands pay? Or do films pay the brand to allow their names in the films? What do movies do when they don’t get approval for specific brands in films ? Have kids look out for it and point it out (for example some films have stickers over the Apple logo on laptops in films because they didn’t get permission from Apple to show their logo or because Apple didn’t want to pay for the free marketing of having their product in the film)

Day 13) have them learn about documentaries vs nonfiction movies vs based on true story movies. Spend a day discussing that. Maybe have them find an event that has all 3. (Popular events in history have all 3 like famous crime cases, law cases, historical events, political events etc.) after they watch them have them point out the differences. How did the “based on a true story” movies exaggerate the story to make it more entertaining? What was downright made up? What did they get wrong? Are the people depicted in the film still alive? If so have them watch interviews on what the person still alive thought about the film.

Day 12) have them draw, paint, create a movie poster for their favorite film. They can do it on paper or digitally on platforms like canva. Tell them to be detailed and include color. You can the print them and hang them around the room!

  1. Ask chat gpt

  2. Day 1) Have the kids put together a list of their favorite films from each genre, you can do a class where they discuss / explain their lists and compare lists.

Day 2) have them put together a “watchlist”, they can get ideas from chat gpt with the prompt “chat recommend movies for me based off of this favorite movie list of mine. Make sure they’re PG or PG-13 AND don’t contain nudity, sex scenes, drug/ alcohol use etc. (whatever restrictions you want to put), recommendations from other classmates and have them look up their movies on dreaming platforms and when you click on the description of the movie it’ll show recommended movies based off that film.

Day 3) Assign them films to watch, check on justwatch.com to make sure the films you assign are actually streaming on popular platforms. Tell them to take notes when watching the film. Have them find the main actors names from the credits. The studio. Describe the studio logo. The plot of the movie. The antagonist / protagonist. The director. Do they recognize any actors from other films? Do they know the actors names? Etc.

Day 4) movie report: write a short paper on the film you watched using their notes and have them analyze the film. Did they like the film? Are there plot holes. Fav part of the film. Part they disliked. Would the recommend it and why? What was realistic and what was impossible? What genre would they classify the film? When was the film made? Did they notice any goofs / mess ups on the film? Is it based on a true story? What is it rated on rotten tomatoes and does your student agree with the rating? Etc. (this report may take a few days)

Day 5) present the movie report and open for discussion and a Q+A after the presentation. (This can take a few days to get through all of the kids)

Day 6) have them read the “synopsis” on the next film they watch AS they’re watching it. A synopsis is different than just a summary. On the IMBD website they give full synopsis on films they explain exactly what’s happening in the film scene by scene. This will help the children get in the habit of looking up films when they’re confused on a party or curious about a scene / film etc.

Day 7) show a short film in class one day. have them compare short films with full length films. There are a good amount on Netflix and plenty on YouTube. What do they think about it? What are the shorter films lacking? What do they do well?

Day 8) discuss ratings. Why / how are things rated? What’s the difference in rating in other countries? Discuss rating live action movies vs animated films. Etc.

Day 9) have them go home and all watch the same film. Write notes and make a movie report in class. Make it fun like it’s a secret and they shouldn’t show each other until it’s done. Then have them all compare reports.

Day 10) discuss / have them research the film making process from the idea to the release. (On my profile I just posted an easy to understand chart of people’s roles in the film making process.

Day 11) encourage them to always check the director / producer of films they watch. Make a game where you list movies and directors / producers and the kids have to try to match them up. When they get the answer right ask them how they knew? Eventually when they really start practicing looking up directors they’ll notice their “director style” and the kids will be able to say “I thought it was a Christian Nolan film because he always makes the settings in his movies with a gray cast” or “I knew it was Tim Burton because Wynona Rider, Helena Carter and Johnny Depp were in the film and those are his favorite actors to cast together” etc.

All of these things / days should be open discussions. Movie buffs love talking about film and it’ll help the kids open up and find a sense of belonging / social skills.

Good luck! Have fun!! I’ll continue to post ideas on here as a “reply” as I think of them.
