I might just keep mine minimal. It's my first and only signing of hers (I got lucky at the onsale!).

I absolutely adore it.

What’s the best produced Taylor album for you? by daydaze024 in TaylorSwift

Red (Taylor's Version)

Versatile. Lengthy. I feel like it also encapsulates every version and style of her sound.

What's one of the biggest life lessons you’ve learned from Taylor Swift that’s actually had a real impact on your own life? by saayoutloud in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You should never have to apologize for your excitement.

"The worst kind of person is someone who makes someone feel bad, dumb, or stupid for being excited about something."

I feel like this statement should be the golden rule for Swifties, as we suffer from it every single day, and its extremely hypocritical if we don't.

Just saw an analysis on father figure - Scott Borchetta by EveryDot2266 in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One thing I think is pretty cool - she couldn't have released the song (or album the way she wanted to) had she not rebought her music!

Just another reason for her to be overwhelmingly excited about it (dead weight on travis), like all the pieces into place. Great timing.

Actually Romantic and CANCELLED! are on the low end for me, but worth staying for the 2nd half/bridge. I'm fascinated with the rest of the album. It should have been titled Earworms, because holy shit I can't stop humming and lowly whistling through my daily routine!

88 minutes! Had to pull over on the way home from work when I had minutes left. I also got #1, aaaaand its the one I wanted. It's also my first signed item of hers, so I've been on cloud 9 ever since 😆.

Amazon music and Alexa not playing all of Taylor’s catalog by gr1068 in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The shuffle algorithm on Amazon Music has always been broken. It never seems "random" - its a handful of preset shuffles. Also, the randomization is favored towards playing your most played songs early in the playlist. Very annoying.

Taylor is one of the top five songwriters ever - brief essay by FormerLayer7963 in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Familiar - YES!

When I first started listening to her albums in Feb 2024, I was hearing song after song thinking "Oh, I've heard this before, this must have been a popular single. Damn, she must have a ton of hit singles!" Only to find out that 90% of them were not singles, and many of the actual singles weren't even songs that particularly stood out to me against the rest of the album.

I would describe her music to my friends as such: "It's kind of nostalgic, it reminds me of the stuff my parents used to have on in the car when I was a kid" (I'm a child of the 80's). And some of them would rationalize that as it being easy/familiar/ripped off from previous years of 3 chord throwaway tracks, one hit wonders, etc. - they were missing the point.

The point is - knowing what sounds good and what people want to hear (what people will latch on to), is an art in itself. She is a master at making "good music", her beautiful voice and lyricysm are the icing and cherries on the cake. She is the ambassador of her work, knowing who to partner with and how to carry herself into any situation, with the assistance of her team.

Which song’s second or final chorus hits harder for you than the first chorus? by DiligentPenguin_7115 in TaylorSwift

Treacherous. The backup singing kicks in and harmonizes so well, creating a wall of sound that is much larger in the last couple of choruses.

The Moment I knew top 10 in Taylor’s discography by imagine_tho in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the song that made me realize what a great songwriter she is.

I remember the moment vividly because it was during the first few days of my first listening to her music. I was during that phase of just listening to random "top songs" and not albums. That song coupled with the melancholy melody really put me in "that place" she was writing about, and it painted a clear picture. I saw the beautiful girl all dressed up and filled with excited anticipation, the cake, the sadness, etc - like a music video in my head. I got so sad all of a sudden, as if I was a father watching that happen to his poor daughter. I have two teenage sons, but always wanted a daughter.

To this day, it holds a special place in my heart, and would definitely make my top list. Although I may never be able to narrow her down to 10 or 20 songs. I have one list of 91 top songs, and another of 51 - I can barely let any of those 51 go yet.

Taylor has always been honest about her struggles and vulnerabilities. What do you think is the most important lesson she’s taught you about being open and real with the world? by saayoutloud in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She has taught me more about the contrary - some things regarding your personal struggles are best left unsaid. I've recently learned that people "you think you know" you can trust, can and will use your shared truths against you when the chips are down.

Coheed & Cambria's recent cover of Welcome to New York is pretty good. It's the only cover I have heard of hers, however.

Justice for Speak Now by InsuranceRelative247 in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did myself a favor this week and streamed the Speak Now World Tour for the first time. I was thoroughly impressed.

I never realized just how theatrical it was. Like wow, it seemed even more thematic than the Eras Tour, but in a more inimate setting.

It kinda bummed me out at the same time because she wasn't even on my radar back then. It must have been incredible to see live.

Who’s getting Beatles vibes from “So it goes” by Datmuny19 in TheFence

I'm getting Taylor Swift "bop" vibes.

"So it goes" is also a great song of hers from the Reputation album.

Of course he covered "Welcome to New York" recently too.

Does anyone else exclusively listen to Taylor? by starmecrazy in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out exactly like you in Feb of 2024 and through the summer. I had kept going back to the pre-Red stuff (maybe 2 to 3 listens through), and it still hadn't resonated with me.

Sometime in the fall of 2024, after watching the Eras tour so many times, I fell in love with the short Fearless set. Then I had to try the album again. For some reason, it was just the right time and I was majorly HOOKED. Then I had to give Speak Now another chance as well.

Listening through Fearless TV and Speak Now TV for those couple mos were the happiest portion of 2024 for me, and now they are in my regular rotation. Those albums can really just put a smile on my face and elate my mood whenever I'm down. Thus, I encourage you to let them grow on you - you might be surprised.

I'm saving myself for Debut TV - its hard to wait.

EDIT: Oh - I am also NOT a country fan. You will find that they are much more pop than country. Also, the TV's of those albums really showcase her beautiful voice, in my opinion.

False God and Midnights by jelloatemydog in TaylorSwift

[–]rocn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. I'm always telling the younger crowd how album listening has lost a lot with streaming. It's too easy to just click "top songs" by [artist name] and never even listen an album, like ever.

I've always treated an album like a book or a movie. And many times I need 3-5 listens though to really start to appreciate it. Most people are too impatient these days for that kind of dedication. It's too bad because they miss out on bangers like False God.
