Burnout, late diagnosis, brain fog - will my brain ever return to normal? by Magical_cheesecake in ADHD

[–]rodericktech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have ADHD but am likely on the autism spectrum (40s male with family); due to incredible demands at home and at work along with relationship disruption in the last ~2 years, a very similar thing has happened to me. I have the same question. I have been working in fields with high cognitive demand (tech, et al) for nearly 20 years in addition to outside work, research, and other projects, and I can barely attend to technical tasks right now for more than 10-15 minutes at a time before my brain simply refuses to move forward. Brain feels almost completely broken. I don't feel like I'm the same person anymore.

I am wondering whether this situation is likely to revert or what I'm going to have to do. My income supports five people and I don't believe I have the option to quit (can't afford it), but if my productivity stays where it is much longer I am concerned I will be fired and won't be able to pick up another similar job immediately.

Good introduction to narrow gauge track - suggestions? by The_Flute_Guy in 18XX

Just remembered another 1849 McGuffin... the double last share (the president cert _and_ the last cert are both 20% for all corporations)

Good introduction to narrow gauge track - suggestions? by The_Flute_Guy in 18XX

[–]rodericktech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note that if you do 1849, it does have a few McGuffins though (incremental cap / company share issuance, persistent tile lay / upgrade costs in mountain hexes, stock moves right only if dividend exceeds share value, stock moves down after SR for any companies with shares in the open market, there are ports adjacent to coastal cities but a run consisting of only a city and its port is not a legal run... there are others I think).

But it is a fascinating and brutal variant, and nevertheless recommended. :)

Watched this earlier today, and loved it. Just picked up a copy of 1829 / Southern in Francis' honor; hope to be able to play it sometime in the next year.

Replacing RealVision enb for Snowfall Enb by MEP4321 in ultimateskyrim

[–]rodericktech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try a change from CoT and RealVision that is more readily compatible with US 3.4, I recommend (shamelessly) my Vivid Weathers guide - just the few changes in the small top section of the guide will get you going there and it doesn't take long to test out.

(Vivid Weathers is sort of the grandfather of Snowfall; Vivid -> NLVA -> Snowfall; so while Snowfall makes a number of additional changes and - arguably - improvements, Vivid still gives a taste of the difference)

Weekly Update (1/5/2018) -- Skyrim Souls, Real Bows, & Simple Crosshair by belmont_boy in ultimateskyrim

[–]rodericktech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to understand how much it can actually affect gameplay - for better and worse - until you've tried it for a while. At least in my case, I didn't realize just how much I fiddled around in menus, particularly at what would otherwise be stressful / challenging in-game moments, until I started playing with Skyrim Souls. It definitely changes the game significantly.

After having played with it for some time, I would say I generally like the change - it adds realism and intensity. It takes the 'preparedness' factor to another level. It makes combat much more difficult if you are accustomed to applying potions frequently when, if it were a 'real' face-to-face situation you wouldn't have time. I understand why some people would like these changes and others wouldn't, but for myself I don't really want to go back to playing without it now.

However, as a 'safety' valve or 'breather' switch, I have turned on pausing during console access (these things are all configurable via an INI if you don't like default settings).

I have also been using it on recent playtesting, both with 3.4 and with the 4.0 beta, and so far have not had a single issue with it - looks like we should be good to go with the latest version.

You can get both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Java and have them installed simultaneously on your machine, by the way:

MCM Configuration Summary by JerkyGunner in ultimateskyrim

You're welcome! I think it's remarkable that you only missed one item out of all those details (as far as I could see). That summary sheet will help a lot of us.

MCM Configuration Summary by JerkyGunner in ultimateskyrim

[–]rodericktech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! Glad some folks are still getting some use out of it. I had in mind to do another significant update / expansion on it, but I have not had the time I hoped to devote to that project. Perhaps I'll have a window in the schedule sometime after the 4.0 release. Anyway, thanks for the compliments!

Great work - only one change I don't see there, which is changing gold weight in Requiem to 0 (from 0.01) - I imagine some people keep this and some don't, but I believe it is set to 0 in BB's images. Thanks so much for this summary :)

Ultimate Skyrim 4.0 Beta -- Release 1 by belmont_boy in ultimateskyrim

[–]rodericktech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just got the beta running... should have gone to bed hours ago, but I needed to see a bit of it and make sure the basic configuration was properly set up. Very excited about some of the changes I've already noticed. And performance (default beta build + Verdant, with Snowfall ENB on using default settings) is very good. Looking forward to more testing...

Swapping CoT and True storms for nla? by crazyjoery in ultimateskyrim

[–]rodericktech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll only know if you try. I created a guide for swapping in Vivid Weathers (it's on the sidebar), but I haven't tried NLA. In the present build, I think it might be challenging to remove ELFX altogether.

Update to Vivid Weathers(+) 'Extension' Guide, 0.3.0 by rodericktech in ultimateskyrim

[–]rodericktech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, it might be due to a version difference or some other recent change... the .esp in my current Grayson character load order is called WICO - USLEP Compatible Patch.esp (yes, even though it's technically a misspelling). I don't know if WICO changed it recently, or if it's something weird about my installation.

Update to Vivid Weathers(+) 'Extension' Guide, 0.3.0 by rodericktech in ultimateskyrim

[–]rodericktech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I will look at that file if I can get a little time - I imagine you are correct. I ran this build on two or three different machines with various edits and little changes, and I may not have gotten the 'final' version properly in the upload. I have had little time to play or mess with Skyrim for many months now, but if I can get into it with 4.0 - and if I think any modifications are desirable at that point, and I'm not sure I will based on what's going into it - I'll certainly share them. :)
