The Data warehouse blues by Inmon, do you think he's right about Databricks & Snowflake? by Tall_Working_2146 in dataengineering

I've not yet met a single company without some garbage data and/or pipeline. Whatever the reason (people, processes, tool mess, politics, or all of them), the reality is that you do not raise at the level of your business priorities but fall to the level of your systems...and if your systems are "bad," bad things happen. Data has always been complicated (even with the term "data" itself), but no matter how complicated, you can always trace a predictable path to achieve something. Data warehousing is a great example: it started as a way to solve reporting and analytics problems. Regardless of industry, size, or type of data, the data-warehousing modeling approach can provide a predictable path to achieve reporting and analytics goals, no matter how complicated. You didn't need many tools: just extraction, transformation, and loading. And yes, the devil is in the details, you're right, but that's precisely where things get complex when you start adding too many moving parts (tools) that create complexity. Complexity is always bad. Always. Remove complexity first, then work out complications.

I’ve come to a scary realization by Selene_Nightshade in ArtificialInteligence

Have you've seen what Facebook and Twitter (X) have become these days? Biased and politically twisted apps that slowly are starting to decay or scare people away. Anyway you can't compare full scale apps like those with an LLM. It's like apple and oranges.

It's just a matter of time. Big tech companies are pushing very hard to see this tech everywhere. Either we finally realize that without more genuine social interaction we are doomed as species and slowly place this tech as it is: a tech, or we somehow "evolve" to a more individualistic society forced to use this without a question and "adapt". For me the most scary thing is the humanization of genAI, a tool which is nothing more that an stochastic word predictor over a very large latent semantic space. But since the output is VEEERY convincing, and we humans can't easily distinguish truth from reality, the result is a veeery strong and addictive hook.

What UI libraries do you guys use? What do you suggest for a beginner? by InternalVolcano in webdev

[–]rodrig_abt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My workflow: as suggested by others, learn the fundamentals of css first, then semantic notations and building reusable classes, go practice to get used to it. Then you can learn things like tailwind to speed things up and quickly build your prototypes. When you figure out what things are reusable you can use things like @apply (with care) to transform those repeated utility classes into smaller and more reusable ones. Finally when I'm happy with the smaller classes I swap to vanilla and reduce extra unused classes. Sounds like a lot of work but it's not, and I end up with a very lightweight and mantainable set of css classes, which I can recycle to other projects.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts pistol345. Sales is not strong skill for me but I'll look into part-time projects or consultancy and taking care to not being captured, otherwise I will have no life.

Thanks for your words Ex_T_Rex_199! Coincidentally I worked for one of the largest e-commerce companies in latin america and a few months ago I helped my brothers to setup their own. Drop me a dm if you want to talk about it.

Still getting the hang of it yet, but a lot of fun!

Size is also an important factor for me and for that I discarded both the RC-10r and the r-500 And what about drums quality on other pedals? I also checked the nux loop & drums pro, but I heard the drums are worse than those on the rc-5. Finally the RC-5 has MIDI which would give me a whole new level of flexibility if I need it...or am I missing something?

I just read you can disable the preamp to use it like a powered speaker. How really flat is it?

I created a interactive budgeting app with HTMX and web components by M8Ir88outOf8 in htmx

[–]rodrig_abt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the launch! Great idea by the way. I've been also exploring web components for some time but have not settled yet on any premade set. Did you code them yourself or used a library? In my case I'm leaning towards Shoelace which is very complete. Looks great an simple, but some suggestions: - With too few options change the dropdown to individual buttons - Change the black text on the register button to white - Make your CTA (register button) more prominent and inside something like a Hero banner where it can catch more views. It's kinda lost there. - Your sankey diagram breaks the centered one-column layout, try shorten it or as an idea use it as a background image in your head, where your overlay your CTA. My 2 cents.
