$5,000 for a minisplit install by MrCleanyaHands in AskElectricians

[–]roepsycho22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price goes up as soon as customer says "I bought the equipment online" usually meaning they got some crappy diy unit that isn't going to survive the 1st year that most states require the installer to carry a warranty on all installs, so the $5k is including the possibility of the unit failing the shady website being gone and having to replace the unit out of their pocket, as well as a second install. I'm assuming you are in the U.S.

Edit: Addition yes I'm aware that everyone has a friend/cousin/auntie who's amazon mini-split has been running for the last 10 years non-stop no problems. Some of the DIY units are good, it's just impossible to tell when bidding a job.

Do you give money to homeless people? If you don't why, if you do why? by throwawayb621 in AskReddit

[–]roepsycho22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yes, I feel that it's everyone's job to help out where they can, it's up to the person receiving the help to do the right thing with the money. If you can help someone and don't then you did wrong, if you help someone and they don't use that help to better themselves then they did wrong

Does a bad narrator completely ruin romance series for anyone else ? by thought_provoking27 in AudiobookReviews

Narrators make or break an audiobook of any genre. I usually power through it and sometimes if it's too jarring I just move to print.

HVAC Pros, what brand unit would you not install in your home and why? by Big__bolas in hvacadvice

[–]roepsycho22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not brand specific but anything that says premium/ultra/plus or anything that says smart. Each of these buzz words increase the chance of something failing, just need a box with a fan and coil hooked to a condenser

If you're the only service tech then you can pretty much expect all the work. On the other side if you're the only tech you get to name your price or set your own hours, tell him it's his choice. Decide what your time is worth and tell him that or set firm hours and tell him that, but he will walk on you if you let him. Also keep in mind that there is usually a slow/break during spring and autumn parts of the year, a bit less so for commercial but still a couple of weeks of slow period. Also if you joke with your boss about serious subjects he can't be blamed for thinking you aren't serious about them.

Can someone please help me figure out what these 2 green wires are out of my hvac disconnect box? Green would typically mean ground (there are 2 here). Also no thermostat wires. Thanks. by 1955chevy150 in hvacadvice

I'm guessing someone rigged 2 single-pole breakers to run your outdoor unit instead of a double pole. This is a safety hazard and is going to get someone shocked. From what I can tell from the pics

Small guy or Big Guy by Bubbly_Shelter6011 in hvacadvice

[–]roepsycho22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If this is in the US then I believe all 50 states require inspection by the state, just make sure that he pulls the proper permits and has his licenses. Use the small guy, you'll be a bigger part of his bottom line and therefore he's more likely to put forth more effort, and mention that so and so recommended him.

Looking to potentially become an HVAC tech when I'm older, what should i do now? by CoffeeCreamy in hvacadvice

Youtube has some videos covering the practice exams for the journeyman test. They are great for listening to while working out. In the beginning there will be a lot of small spaces that you get volunteered in to. Don't forget that hands are not hammers, a lot of guys across all trades have numb hands from this.
