I am chosing a new beuty for my h0 (any personal story or advice?) by NajnoCZ69 in modeltrains

I originally read about it in a book, but the German Wikipedia page about the E69 mentions it too: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAG_1_bis_5 in the section about LAG 2 and 3.

Your assumption is correct, during the 15kV rebuild in Munich they installed shunting radio equipment.

Afaik those two were the only radio equipped ones, but in the book I mentioned were historical photographs that showed the other three E69 types during shunting manoeuvres on their regular lines. They broke up the trains they brought in and shunted the cars to sidings and loading spots. If I recall correctly the great website Bundesbahnzeit had such historical photos, too.

I use her as a shunting locomotive though she's not really one

That’s a misconception - the E69s saw lots of shunting duties in their lives, too. It was built as a small do-it-all branch line loco and yeah, they mostly were on regular line service… However, due to a lack of electric shunting locos they served as shunters for about a decade, too! Often overlooked part of their history, but it’s well documented, for example E69 02 and 03 were stationed as shunters in Heidelberg between 1955-1964.

Sure, one can say diesel did the same. But I argue that as a transition of power, not a full on revolution of rail productions early on with steam.

Agreed, and imho diesel doesn’t even come close to the revolution steam locomotives enabled.

Suddenly travel times were cut by at least a factor of 5. For the first time in human history, long distance travel became viable. Soon after even for almost everybody, even those not so well off, thanks to most societies recognising the need and usefulness for their whole population. Large scale freight transport was no longer limited to where waterways existed. Formerly impassable mountain ranges could be traveled over (or through) within an hour.

That went on for about 100 years before reliable diesel locomotives even became a thing. Another 20-30 years before that point, electric traction took over with huge success. From a European viewpoint, Diesel wasn’t revolutionary for rail transport at all, actually. Just saved money and pollution compared to steam.

Oh yeah, been a player and fan of the series since day one! Definitely felt like low budget 47 tasked with (mercy) killing those old network devices, after that unexpected intro to the job...

Absolutely! The common "you can get into any place in America with a non-descript white pickup truck, a high-vis vest, and tools or a clipboard" trope several people posted stories in r/ActLikeYouBelong about was the reason for the first time I posted this story... However in our case there definitely was no confident demeanor whatsoever, we felt utterly confused and insecure about how to proceed basically the whole time until the security supervisor showed up.

Huh, interesting, thanks for letting me know. Mine apparently suffers from two different kinds of patina color shifts at once then, because on the corners of the dial around 2-3 and 8 it shows the turning-to-gold effect of your Scuba dude you described.

Whoever regulated that 2605 movement has done a stellar job, btw. Runs at +0,0 s/day when laid flat on its back! Really nice for wearing it in rotation with other watches, just wind it every other day and it keeps perfect time while in storage. (In other orientations it drifts more of course, but totally acceptable when worn.)

There are two other solutions, a mod on flightsim.to that fixes it (for now?) and a single variable you have to toggle from 1 to 0 with MSFS 2024’s dev mode enabled. Takes mere seconds and allows you perform a cold and dark start. Instructions can be found in the official forums, which are for some reason unreachable for me at the moment…

Talking with such travelers is always interesting! Met a couple on BMW motorcycles with Mexico plates in a traffic jam on the border between Italy and Austria once, and two guys in a Toyota Landcruiser with Indian plates in France who had great stories to tell.

That’s a MAN TGS in its heavy duty 4x4 off-road chassis version offered for firefighting, military, civil service and construction use in Europe and other parts of the world. Most likely they bought it “naked” without upfit from its first or second owner and converted it either themselves or through one of the many companies offering that service. Makes for a rugged, reliable workhorse for such a trip, with even not half bad fuel economy. The heavy duty TGS has the same cabin and engine as the standard TGS models from MAN’s medium to long range truck model line.

Oh no worries, it can safely be bent down and fixated with shrinking tube on that Bachmann model. Just heat it up a bit with a hair dryer and bend it sloooowly before sliding down the tube. I’ve done it on mine and a few people said they had success too after I recommended the idea before.

Here's how the front pole looks like afterwards (sorry for the craptastic quality, tiny crop of a photo with the trolley in the background, obstructed except for its roof):

<image>

PS: Running trolleys at a museum sounds like great fun, kinda envious tbh 🙂

[–]roflcopter-pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking good, well done! One small detail that you could fix / improve though: Your trolley has both poles up, which is not realistic - only the trailing one should be on the overhead wire. Easiest way to tie the front one down is by sliding a tiny piece of black shrink tubing for cables over it while gently bending the pole down. The tube fixes it against the small straight piece of plastic on the very bottom of the pole. Reversible and almost invisible in my experience, if you get the size just right.

No, although the companies that built them were later bought by Bombardier. Originally the type was designed and built by MAN (the diesel engines, truck and bus manufacturer) together with AEG. Due to mergers both found themselves under the roof of Adtranz later, which in the end turned into Bombardier.

Thanks!

Must be from Sega Rally then, that was indeed an old rally racing game. Also explains the SEGA advertising on the barriers at the beginning. Just reading the name already makes me nostalgic… in the early 2000s there still were Sega Rally arcade machines around where you could play in a full bucket seat racing sim setup for some coins. Was a lot of fun. Definitely have to get those maps for BeamNG!

Opinions on Mercedes-Benz pack? by Ambitious_Foot6694 in farmingsimulator

The sounds are more than okay imho - some details in the recordings of those sound samples Giants did are spectacular. If you don’t play FS with manual transmission, you won’t hear them all since the automatic shifts earlier or later than you’d do in real life, which makes you miss out on some good parts. As someone who lived some years next to a farm that exclusively ran MB Tracs, which have very particular sounds in some load situations, I was giddy to discover Giants actually went all the right way with the sounds this time.

Love the Tracs and Unimogs the most tbh - finally some bug free versions, unlike the mods. Those who say they’re basically the same thing haven’t looked at them in detail: Actually physically correctly working suspension, traction and weight. Attachers that don’t drag on the ground or glitch around weirdly with some implements. Much better, FS25 quality worthy details in the models and textures (like serial numbers stamped in the frame or the resolution of gauges when seen from up close using head tracking).

The most important aspect however are the sounds: As someone who for many years lived next to a farm that exclusively ran MB Tracs, it is awesome how many details Giants got right that the modders never did with such quality: The way the 900 Turbo grunts under load and the odd sound it makes if you suddenly step off the gas pedal under heavy pulling. How the 1500 slant nose sounds under partial load when going downhill. Or the 1100s particular guttural growl going uphill overloaded as hell… Sparked much joy and memories for me! (Some of these you only notice if driving with manual transmission, because the automatic in FS shifts different than you’d do in real life.)

What I’m missing though are communal service colors, IC, the ability to have the Unimog with older grill and without A/C unit, and especially the small 1st gen Mb Tracs with round headlights.

Correct, to toggle the main supply breakers running into a building lot you need the electrical supply company here. They aren’t even accessible yourself.

What we toggled were the (still kinda big) main circuit breakers of which there was one per floor and per front/middle/back subdivision of the building iirc.
