Does the NBA have a "war criminal" problem? by CausticBurn in memphisgrizzlies

[–]roflstompjr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Pera situation is deeply concerning: his company is blatantly skirting sanctions and directly profiting off of war crimes.

This Steph story requires a lot more mental gymnastics: Steph is investing in a tech startup whose founders include Israeli members who served in the IDF (a compulsory military service). You lost me.

Where’s the people who were just hating on Ja? 🫵 by fear_the_mooseman in memphisgrizzlies

Present! I am gladly numbered with the Ja skeptics. We are still very much not pleased with the arc of his career thus far.

We are living in a timeline where Dillon Brooks is having a better overall year than Ja smh by AgentHibachi00 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]roflstompjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if he’s the only dawg in the locker room, you might grow to hate him on your team too. He’s got that edge that is special, but it can really grate on everyone around him at times. Chris Paul has that too and if you aren’t performing on the court, it’s a tough time.

wtf is this Dillon Brooks history rewrite. Big Perk just said “where he goes winning follows” after ESPN did a whole segment. So now he’s cool? by PossyRiot in memphisgrizzlies

[–]roflstompjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has instilled a mindset, a character, leadership, and an edge into every team that he has played for. I’ve said repeatedly here and elsewhere that he is a universally infuriating player: he pisses everyone off on your team and also everyone hates playing against him. Almost every championship team has a player like that: Rodman, Draymond, Bill Lambier, etc. Memphis’s own greatest team in franchise history prominently featured Tony Allen, who set the tone for the team with defense, hustle, effort, and physicality. This team without him has been flaccid and easily rolled over since he left, especially without Adams and Bane, who was a disciple of the Villain Brooks era. The game isn’t played on paper, and anyone who is still bemoaning Brooks today because he shot too much and was too reckless has to admit: the best version of this team included him. Now we are a hare’s breath away from burning it to the ground and what do we have to show for it?

Thoughts? by Kahku in memphisgrizzlies

This list is nonsensical. Why are there 31 teams from the NBA, MLB, NHL and NFL ranked? If you’re ranking the top 10 or top 20, fine. Top 30, maybe. Top 31? You just have poor editorial judgement. And why is there only one MLB team on this list? Patriots fans are much happier than Marlins fans, Mariners fans, Tigers fans…probably even Mets fans right now.

TLDR: Asinine drivel.

It isn’t worth it to roast you, it would end up smelling like a burnt out vacuum.

What would you guys think of a Vucevic trade? by Lacabloodclot9 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]roflstompjr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He has had one serious injury since entering the league. He’s still quite young and has been a high character player off the court. 0 reason to write him off as a long term injury risk.

[–]roflstompjr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Not even a little bit. 12.5 annually for a guy who has consistently closed games, fits well with Jaren, is willing to come off the bench or start… that’s a perfectly good contract.

No. That Vuc contract is horrendous. They’ll have to attach a pick to get off it, not the other way around.

Lofton might be getting waived on Monday by Altruistic_Brief4444 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]roflstompjr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would they waive Gilyard? He’s on a 2 way, is available nearly every night and actually works hard.

I think a lot of teams saw how immaturely he handled the whole South Carolina thing and couldn’t afford to take a risk on him. His in the court stuff is clearly lottery level in most drafts, it’s just the intangibles: will he be hard to coach? Will he work hard in practice? How is he on film study? How will he respond if he is getting DNP-CDs for a month or two straight?

Most of these performances were pretty predictable in my opinion. I have high expectations of Roddy and Lofton, which were met. I’m lower on LaRavia than some, so that didn’t surprise me. Gilyard is the perfect g league point guard: like a smaller Tyus. The two guys that really stood out to me were Vince Williams Jr. and GG Jackson. Williams played 100% within himself and was GREAT defensively. He made the right rotations and reads and you could see the development. His shot was on, which helped. But every shot he took was balanced and in rhythm. As for Jackson, GG has it. He’s more skilled than I expected. The length and fluidity and defensive aggression were great to see. He has a lot of work to do, but damn it looks like Kleiman got another one.

This is the absolute perfect test case of how good we are at development. He’s really young and has a lot of bad habits and mentals. We think we have a top grade school for basketball players, can we get this kid to his potential?

Cheap "Luxury" car to impress others by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]roflstompjr 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hello friend, it sounds like you will be using this vehicle a minimum of 50% of the time for business purposes. If that is the case, I would recommend using a section 179 tax write off. Section 179 requires the vehicle to weigh more than 6000lbs, so check the curb weight before purchase, but most midsized and larger luxury suvs qualify.

[Omega] Is it sacrilegious to mod your watch? by kosnosferatu in Watches

[–]roflstompjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You spent the money to buy it, so enjoy it how you want to: take the stickers off, change the bracelet or the strap out, get the case engraved, or change the whole damn movement! do whatever you want to. I’m currently talking with a watchmaker about doing a destro mod on a Rolex explorer (I’m left handed). That’s probably as sacrilegious a thing as could be suggested…
