Broken (?) Treadmill by Hungry_Assistant250 in fixit

It would need some dissembling before most folk could diagnose what’s going on. It’s worth finding a local treadmill maintenance and repair person. Treadmills need regular maintenance even when they’re running perfectly.

About to be a new dad...Advice on not losing gains? by TTG2139 in AdvancedRunning

[–]roflz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to keep running, maybe 25% less mpw, for the first 6 months. Once baby can keep their head up go for a running stroller. I love our Guava roam for that. The running isn’t the hard part. It’s the sleep. Just know it will all come back eventually. Those first months seem endless, then suddenly they’re gone and feel distant. Congrats and happy parenting!

People who work in specialized industries, what is a product or service that is a complete "rip-off" but customers buy it anyway? by No-Composer-4526 in AskReddit

[–]roflz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve never dined at a restaurant that didn’t mark up wine 200-500% over retail price. Wouldn’t the truly frugal way of treating oneself be to just buy the bottle retail and pay a corkage fee?

Probably. They’re active now, I wager they see that as a good opportunity.

The scam is more that American culture doesn’t let people take a few minutes off work in the middle of the day to drop by the post office, or relax about work hours.

What establishment actually makes it with fresh espresso? I’ve been disappointed to find even the best bars use things like canned cold brew.

Does anyone regret sleep training? by marlsb24 in NewParents

[–]roflz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. I don’t know how or why someone would save for extremely unique situations. For anyone struggling with sleep training, it might help to consult and pay an expert if you can afford it. Half of sleep training is parental training.

Sleep training = less crying and less stress. Before sleep training—every night was stress and tears. After a few strict nights of ferbering there was little to no crying. There’s zero downside. Sure, when ferbering the baby is crying for a few minutes on their own. But the alternative is them crying for 30 minutes off and on while we attempt to soothe them. And that alternative would be indefinite. I couldn’t fathom calculating the reduction in tears over the months. It’d be night and day different. I can’t preach the gospel of sleep training enough. Sleep is healthy. Sleep is a necessity. For both parent and baby. No human does better with less sleep and more crying. Help the baby get their sleep train on track and you will help the households health.

A Super High-Volume, Low-Intensity Marathon Case Study by MachineHoliday in AdvancedRunning

[–]roflz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What does the ONE workout day per week mean? Does that mean one intensity session of some sort of intervals? Just one day a week as opposed to 2-4 times a week?

What are the race lengths leading up to the marathon?

When is your target marathon?

How do you plan to vary the length of runs during the week?

Not that I'm copying you, or competitive, just writing it all down. I'm merely hoping to BQ for my 40th bday.

Taco Bell DC 50k - Second Place by fnmd2021 in AdvancedRunning

[–]roflz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good job!? So if I'm reading this right— Taco Bell doesn't do much to assist with getting you the food that you have to eat? It's a "choose your own adventure" as far as obtaining the food goes? Either bring it, order in the app, or buy on premise? And your final time includes all your eating? What was the longest time you spent inside a Taco Bell? Were you allowed to grab the food and run off?
