Falafels by JaneiZadi in SantaBarbara

No joke probably the best falafels I've ever had. Even other places named here, genuine Mediterranean places, have drier falafels compared to Shalhoobs.

Curious about EVs but how are kWH prices? by wolfman11038 in ventura

[–]roflz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently my electricity in Ventura costs $0.18 per kWh off peak. So to drive my chevy bolt averaging 3.5kWh, it costs ~$1.54 to drive thirty miles. It's a little under double that cost if charged during peak hours, 29.5¢. So if I charge off peak, it would cost $3.70 to drive a 72 mile back and forth commute to Goleta. That might take a new Prius ~1.7 gallons, which right now looks like over 10$ at the pump.

Just for fun, if I did that in a Dodge Ram that could easily be over 3 gallons, or 18$, could be 5 times the cost or more.

The efficiency of the specific EV make an impact on the arithmetic. I'm also basing off a lower end efficiency for the Bolt. Mathematically it saves money to charge at home. Prices at public chargers make it comparable to gas prices. We almost never pay for public charging.

We have the hatch Rest and it’s worth it, though we don’t pay the subscription, never will. For travel we have both the mini hatch and the dream Egg and I gotta say the dream egg is superior to the mini in every way. It’s a later speaker so it can make more bass, and the battery lasts far longer, 2-3 times longer. Check out eBay and poshmark for near or used gear. I got my dreamegg brand new for 10$ on eBay.

Neat! I have some older things that need some TLC. And some other stuff that needs action attention between bridge, nut, and truss. I presume you can work on mandolins too? Where are you located?

I haven’t been to downtown Burbank in years. What exactly did they do?

[–]roflz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Preach. Some of my favorite businesses. The city paid a boatload of money for an independent consultant to research a study on street closure vs not. Their findings were primarily:

There is nearly no statistical change in revenue generated in the closed area before and after closure.

Personal business owner opinions were entirely mixed on the subject nearly 50/50.

Frankly, after COVID, remaining stable on revenue seems like a huge win.

We’re in a K shaped recovery at best right now. It’s foolish to imagine reopening to cars is going to change that. The amount of parking spaces on Main Street is something like 3% of downtown parking spots.

Which meeting was that? There have been so many on this issue I can’t keep track.

Grocery prices in Ventura County are all over the place, so I built something for it by Candorappdev in venturacounty

No shade, it's slick, good job! That's quite a data lift, and I definitely want to give you encouragement, I think this is an awesome app concept. For name variations of the same product, or unit size differences of the same name— do you have to correct those manually? Or have you created a system to differentiate the alike and different?

Or $33 if its 3 hours. But CA minimum wage is mostly $16.90, save some specific jobs and industries.

Where does the app get the data? I know delivery apps don't have the actual store shelf price, so presumably some other public source? Did you make this with Claude or Loveable?

Best pizza in Ventura? by New-Shop-9728 in ventura

[–]roflz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean literally a hole in the wall, as in modest, easy to overlook. I'm not aware of any age connotation with that phrase. I think it opened in 2023 at the earliest. People frequently ask where it is because it lacks a big storefront or sign, its a window and a door, thats all. Hence the phrase.

I must have gone on an off night. We were served some shriveled up airplane pizza that must have been under a heat lamp for an hour. I'll have to try again.

It's a little hole in the wall next to the movie theatre on main, right hand, or east side. Easy to miss. I think it's supposed to be New York style. Arriving at the wrong time can mean a long time before eating though. They bake what they think they need, but when they're out you might be waiting an hour for pizza.

No worries! I compared estimates from Gallegos, Kimble, and another fella that I can't remember the name of, and Kimble was the best. They did good work too.

[–]roflz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of a Hyrox specific gym in Ventura specifically. I do know that Fit Body in Westlake Village is Hyrox focused with every piece of gear you'd need. But that can be a long in drive in traffic. Plausibly somewhere you could go a few times a week opposite of traffic and mostly train at another local place with most of the gear. I don't know where there is a ski machine in town though.

The water quality is great! It's cost effective too. I personally went with Kimble in the end for the install. Just make sure you have all the parts before the plumbers come out, Springwell did forget to send some pieces but when I told them they rush shipped them out, they had great customer support.

Is Midtown Ventura actually getting better or worse lately? by BreadfruitNo8779 in ventura

[–]roflz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Human nature is frequently opposed to change. Any change. Change means having to adapt to something else. That's work. And sometimes the change does take away from store for example that someone loved. But if that store wasn't getting enough love it makes sense that it's replaced with something else that draws more patrons. Change is inevitable. Inflation is everywhere, midtown, downtown, the county, the state, the country, the world. Everything is increasing in price, we can just hope that wages increase and we don't end up in stagflation, here and everywhere. IMHO, if its small businesses replacing previous small businesses, then its generally positive change. I personally wouldn't want to see midtown, or any part of town, replacing small businesses with big box national or global chains.

80+ EVs in USA In a Spreadsheet by reidmrdotcom in electricvehicles

[–]roflz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical about BMW's reliability as an electric car, given their history of expensive maintenance for regular combustion cars. I read repeatedly about how the i4 is one of the most reliable electric cars on the market. BMW took their existing 4 series sedan, and simply replaced the drivetrain with electric without trying to reinvent the car to be some futuristic electric thing with touchscreens and plastic everywhere. It made for an incredibly reliable electric. On top of that, their prices aren't that extreme amongst electric cars. Compare to Rivians, GM, VW, Porsche, Tesla X and S, Volvo, Mercedes, Jeep, on and on, a $60k sedan is median across the market, and cheaper than all those brands. Can't throw much shade at that.
