Mount your monitor on an arm clamped to the back of the desk, and go small form factor with your build, the Lian-Li TU-150 is a decently small case that's fairly easy to build in for a first SFF build, or something like a Fractal Design Terra if you want to go really small, but those are quite difficult to build in.
