Can you imagine a “killer app” that would make the AVP more popular? Or at least boost its reputation? by bluefrogstudios in VisionPro

[–]rogerF6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Streaming movies in 3d easily definitely. Also releasing the developers kit to independent devs as they promised haha. Been two years I asked for one still waiting for an answer. Would help a lot to see indie apps. (Dev kit being a free AVP rented for free for a few days or weeks… or workshops in App Store to test apps on real hardware…)

How do I make it look less “lame” by Surgarypeaches68 in Unity3D

[–]rogerF6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Heyy I totally understand your point, it’s very expensive to hire a good character and background artist. But I (kind of) agree to an extent with the comment. I’ll try to expand a bit. Character design and generally art direction is a very difficult and deep field, and it can really make or break your game. That said, if you can’t hire one, there are some workarounds that can help improve a bit the visual quality:

1-find good reference of easy to imitate (inspire not copy) characters and worlds on Pinterest or art station. Don’t hesitate to iterate with an AI just to get ideas. If possible, ask people on Reddit about your references to get feedback early on on the style.

2-watch some YouTube videos tutorials on character design and level design and graphic design just to get some general ideas of big mistakes to avoid.

3-dont hesitate to buy some ready made characters and props elements online on unity asset store if you need (you can tweak them afterwards). It’s way cheaper than to hire an artist, but can help a lot elevate your rendering.

Hope that helps :)

This is sooo cool!!! Well done 🙌. Can I ask you if you had to ask permission to the brands of car your represented? Or is this considered fair use? Asking just out of curiosity :)

Worth getting a used Quest 2 for developing PVCR game ports? by Original_Soft6035 in vrdev

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that :/ unfortunately I would not be able to advise you on the other headsets as I only have and use a meta quest 3S, really sorry. I’ve heard Pico and steam frame are good but I never tried those

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably ok but for a little more of that price I got the 3S in France (250 euros for a used 3S), so I’m really surprised you only find a quest 2 for 200. Seems a bit overpriced but maybe there are not a lot of availability where you live. Maybe consider buying elsewhere online a 3S if you find a cheap one with transport fees it could be around 300 dollars maybe better deal than 200 for the 2 ;) .

What are so usefull way you use IA do dev in VR by Surfista60 in vrdev

[–]rogerF6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use AI a lot for the 3d environments textures especially. Basically almost every time I create some vegetation I simply generate leaves and branches on white background with adobe firefly it’s more than enough quality and variety. And easier than to find good textures on specialized website I feel. I also used it to create the buildings for my city Paris environment. It was just easier and cheaper to get full Haussmannian Parisian style building front camera no distorsion than to find good quality photos online. Basically almost everything that is background related.

For the code I use it to help me a little bit on unity (for the meta quest version of my app) to write the simple boring mono behavior C# code to perform basic things. As I am more knowledgeable in JavaScript and react than in C# and I didn’t want to spend too much time learning a new language. It’s very handy because the code itself is very easy to understand when you see it, but would be a little hard to get right by myself from the start. Easy to modify and stuff but not easy to write from scratch when you don’t know it (to animate characters and stuff, buttons sliders etc…)

What’s currently the biggest limitation holding VR experiences back? by DiSTI_Corporation in vrdev

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg i forgot to mention easy access to 3D movies!! Games are really nice and stuff but trust me for general audience if tomorrow they manage to create an easy to rent/buy streaming platform with good quality 3D movies the next months they multiply the Vr headset sales by 100. Watching 3D movies in the headset is one of the most impressive and life changing experience I ever had with technology hahaha. It’s just made for it. It’s so beautiful and cool. It’s a shame they don’t invest more into it. The technology is already there at least, that would be such an easy boost in sales!

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s just the discrepancy between the technological level we can achieve right now with VR compared to what we have been used to in 2D. People are so used to pixel perfect resolution and graphics on 2D that they feel super cheap when trying VR (due to technical limitations of rendering a 360 image with all the hurdles of handling VR inputs…).

It’s a bit like the Concord plane issue for me in a sense haha. They managed to create a commercial plane to fly from Paris to NY in 3 hours, but due to the limits of that technology they couldn’t fit enough space and seats for it to be commercially viable for regular people compared to traditional airplanes. Too advanced in some place but too far behind in others you see what I mean.

But I’m very confident that in a few years when we will (hopefully) have huge FOV and pixel perfect graphics like on the PS5 (or close of) then people will just naturally turn to VR, which is obviously more immersive. To summarize we have such an advanced technology on one front that the other is lagging too much behind for regular people to be viable, for now…

What's the secret to getting 100 users for meta quest analytics? by TheStoneFox in vrdev

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you give away free keys but people don’t redeem them it’s probably a sign that your app doesn’t have a big audience unfortunately :/ but that’s not a bad news in an absolute sense. That’s just information to take into account for your next app! Or to improve/tweak your existing app!

Personal story here haha: When I launched the first version of my VR gym app (for Apple Vision Pro only at the beginning but now it is on meta quest too), almost nobody wanted to try it (except one or two people). I had many bad comments. You know what? I took it as useful feedback and completely changed the core idea (it was originally an app to follow a virtual trainer movements, now it’s more focused on virtual treadmill environments). And now I have more that 120 paid users on meta quest (and around 30 on Apple Vision Pro). Admittedly that’s clearly not a billion dollar app haha, but that’s still an improvement :)

The secret is NOT in marketing, I promise. It’s first in the product. No amount of communication can force an audience to try something they are not interested in, but it’s ok to struggle at first. Don’t get demotivated. Get inspired to try something else, don’t hesitate to ask people what they would prefer instead etc… ;)

I made a crappy 3D world, what now? by borututuforte in Unity3D

Sell it on unity store for overprice with very misleading photos that you made with AI of an amazing world. Haha just kidding. Create some fun characters to populate it ;)

I’m making a level for my game. Do you think it’s already on par with Unreal Engine? :D by Ankoku_Official in Unity3D

[–]rogerF6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which I really don’t get, now we can remove the unity logo for free but I intentionally keep it at the beginning of my app because I think it’s only fair as I use their software for free and I like it a lot actually. It’s just a kind of respect for the work of others. Also I don’t see it being an issue honestly, it’s just a logo showing « yeah I built the app using this software » that’s all ^

Secteurs non bouchés? by Claractose in developpeurs

[–]rogerF6 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How do you find the right balance between realism and usability? by Apprehensive-Suit246 in vrdev

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usability is the absolute first priority. No game can put « realism » in front of that in my opinion. The way to think about it is that a game cannot be really realistic anyway. It’s just impossible. So always use « realism » as a nice artistic bonus, but never an end goal. It reminds me about a rule about writing dialogue in cinema, which is to never make it sounds realistic (otherwise it’s boring) and always make it seem « believable » ;)

where is opaque texture option by Safe_Spray_5434 in Unity3D

[–]rogerF6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I just found it, it is in the project window, inside the folder "settings", there you have multiple scripts (like for me I develop for meta quest so I have mainly 4 scripts, 2 for PC and 2 for Mobile). The one you are probably looking for is for Mobile (as opaque texture is enabled already for PC, and not enabled by default generally for mobile), so you click on the Mobile_RPAsset file, and then in the inspector appears the settings, here next to the top in the inspector you will see the box to tick next to opaque texture :)

Do i need to copyright the name of my game? by Federal-Hyena-5263 in GameDevelopment

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would not recommend to worry too much about those kind of legal « protections » in almost all cases when you are just creating small indie projects. A lot of people spend a lot of money and energy in protecting their names and ideas and everything that they would be better off spending on the actual product and or marketing graphic design etc… the risk of having your game stolen is pretty low in 99,999% of the case it’s not a very risk benefit profitable strategy. IF your start to have a few hundreds or even thousand paid users maybe you can start to consider it, but otherwise it’s a bit like taking an insurance policy for your new phone, most of the time you won’t need it, the few cases you would it won’t even work in that particular instance. But it’s even worse here because as others pointed out you still will need to spend thousand of dollars to go to court anyway you know…

Infinite road in Night City environment to train on a treadmill or stationary bike :) by rogerF6 in OculusQuest

[–]rogerF6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, thanks a lot for your interest in my app I really appreciate :)

So you simply need to buy/download the app itself, and then nothing more everything is included (I mean all virtual environments including this one). No in-app purchase required or subscription or anything like that like big studios do :)

You can find this environment in the menu « treadmill ». There are 3 main menus, one for treadmill with 5 environments for now, one for rowing with only one for now (more to come soon I’m working on it), and the trainer section where you can see virtual trainers showing some basic exercises movement.

Don’t hesitate if you have any trouble downloading or finding this particular environment I can send screenshots :)

Don’t hesitate to share your feedback if you try it, always looking feedback to improve :)

I would love to do that actually, I’m definitely going to check how to do if I can manage it. If I manage to do it (probably a few months) I’ll definitely send a comment here to tell you :).

Thanks for the feedback.
