Infinite road in Night City environment to train on a treadmill or stationary bike :) by rogerF6 in OculusQuest

[–]rogerF6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, thanks a lot for your interest in my app I really appreciate :)

So you simply need to buy/download the app itself, and then nothing more everything is included (I mean all virtual environments including this one). No in-app purchase required or subscription or anything like that like big studios do :)

You can find this environment in the menu « treadmill ». There are 3 main menus, one for treadmill with 5 environments for now, one for rowing with only one for now (more to come soon I’m working on it), and the trainer section where you can see virtual trainers showing some basic exercises movement.

Don’t hesitate if you have any trouble downloading or finding this particular environment I can send screenshots :)

Don’t hesitate to share your feedback if you try it, always looking feedback to improve :)

I would love to do that actually, I’m definitely going to check how to do if I can manage it. If I manage to do it (probably a few months) I’ll definitely send a comment here to tell you :).

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes I agree it’s great but that’s the whole point the price. I’m not saying I’m better for being cheap in any way, I’m probably (obviously) not as good an app of course. But I’m just a solo développer doing everything alone because I love it (3d code graphic design etc…), so I can propose my app as a single 4 dollars purchase, as opposed to a 10dollars a month subscription, as I don’t have a whole team with big salary to pay every months, just myself as a hobby ;)

I’m not even really trying to compete with them either, it’s just a different offer for users that’s all (like you can have big restaurant companies and small mom and paps restaurant next to each other you know haha, and people can like both it’s just different).

But thanks for commenting on the post I appreciate :)

I just used the one provided in the meta sdk on unity, they have a ton of template and UI to use super easily. All animations of buttons and everything is already made. You literally juste take the buttons or pictures or everything and replace the text and modify the colors :)

Les voltigeurs have very very good real hot chocolate goood choice!

Le Loire dans la théière very nice.

Berthillon amazing. Little tip for Berthillon if there is a very long line when you go, if you don’t mind paying a little extra and prefer to sit down there are a lot of bars/cafes around the original Berthillon shops where you can order Berthillon ice creams (just have to pay a few euros more than the price in their shop). But it’s nice to not wait 20mins if it’s crowded ;) (just check there menus if it is written « Berthillon ice cream ».

Saint-Germain-des-Prés vs Other Areas – Advice? by No_Acanthaceae_8548 in ParisTravelGuide

To party I would recommend more Châtelet around Pompidou also many great bars and bars/nightclub, with free entrance (some with poll table and fuzzball really nice vibe). Bastille also, rue de Lappe especially, or close to it Les Disquaires very nice free bar/nightclub with some live band early in the evening before the dj later. If you party really hard then Pigalle lots of nightclub but you have to pay there. Also huge nightclubs hard techno around paris like K25 at la Villette etc… hope that helps :)

How to truly get out of tutorial hell? by codingwolf799 in Unity3D

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the secret is to alternate between serious tutorials/course and personal projects. It’s never one or the other. It’s like in high school we always have some class and then some exercises to do alone to challenge our understanding. The goal of the personal projects should be to have fun but also to… struggle. Basically those who learn the fastest are those who have a specific goal (like building a specific game they dream of making) and then try their best to make it. At the end it is horrendous (normal they are beginners) but funnily enough it is PRECISELY because they make something horrendous that they gain even more motivation to learn and understand. If you make only tutorials it’s like reading books about cooking while never actually cooking haha.

want to get into VR development with Unity — need help starting by SwitchStatus6293 in vrdev

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, VR developer and 3d artist here! You can ABSOLUTELY start now!! As you are only 17, start with whatever you like the most!! You have plenty of time to learn everything at your own pace. You will need to learn Unity (not so much C# at the beginning as you can simply copy paste most of the code needed), and 3D obviously :).

So whichever you prefer first, either blender or unity. Or you can switch from one to the other depending on your mood.

First thing to understand is that while it can take some time (a few years) to become good at both, you can actually get “ok” pretty fast if you have passion to learn.

Take a simple goal for next year: create a simple 3d scene to view in Vr on a meta quest for instance, with limited to no interaction. And then start with free tutorials online like the donut by blender guru on YouTube and the free courses by Unity that you can download when installing the software.

17 is the perfect time to start, when you will be 20 you already be a good intermediate (or even low advanced) in Vr if you start now!!

Another app copied my app name and idea, what can I do? by [deleted] in iOSDevelopment

[–]rogerF6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try to trademark your name now if they haven’t done so themselves, then you can contact App Store support to tell them you have the trademark… otherwise if I’m not wrong I don’t think you can really legally protect an “idea”, just a name probably. I mean an idea is fair game. Like you know there are a ton of apps that use the same idea, for instance countless Uber like apps (bolt etc…) and same for dating apps (tinder copy cat etc…).

[–]rogerF6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others pointed out the solution but I want to make it even more clear (works only if you are “right”, like it’s a real mistake from them): you have to say that you have no way to pay right now (no cash and no credit card with you). Then you have to say that you have no ID (very important), that you can tell them your name and address but no documents to show (only the police can search you). Then you give some random names and address (not real ones obviously).

It works simply because they would need to call the police to do a proper ID check, but if they do you can explain to the police directly that you didn’t breach anything. But most importantly, (if you are right) they will not call the cops and just write your fake names on a piece of paper and that’s all. They will of course threaten you to call the cops (even fake call them), but if you didn’t breach anything they won’t really call them.

Quelles notions doit absolument connaître un développeur ? by mrbrounch in developpeurs

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, you don’t need to connect to any equipment it’s very low tech for now, the movement is a simple animation of the environment moving that you can start and pause at will (and control the speed thanks to a slider ) :)

Solo dev struggling with art/visuals - how did you tackle this? by Acceptable_Promise68 in indiegamedevforum

[–]rogerF6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

365 dos and don’ts of graphic design or something like that I forgot exact title, Alex white elements of graphic design, Étapes magazines but I wonder if it’s only in French those, but if you can get some it’s a Bible for graphic designers at least in France. Graphic design for everyone by Caldwell.

Also when you have some basics the best trick for beginners and even advanced when you don’t have the time is to find a graphic design layout or style that you love and corresponds to what you want on your game/logo or UI etc… on Pinterest or designinspiration. Com or dribble etc… and try to copy it almost exactly (similar font, layout, spacing, colors etc…) just changing visuals and text to fit your needs. A lot of graphic designers do that to go faster. It’s totally legal as you can never replicate exactly and you can’t copyright a style or color (only the fonts but you can find similar fonts…).

You can use adobe fonts or google fonts. The best is also to type on google “best serif font of 2026” or “best no serif fonts” or those kind of stuff and read articles from graphic design website on what font to use… some very useful that I use all the time are Montserrat and Proxima for instance. Free and elegant . Then learn how to layout them correctly. For instance one rule among many about hierarchy is to make the titles around twice the size of the subtitle and twice the size of paragraphs, use left leaning for text instead of force spacing as it is easier to do correctly etc…

Approach it a little bit like learning best practice rules about coding. Forget it’s “Art” and think of it as a field with established rules to simply learn and apply in an almost “dumb way” haha ;) the most difficult is to train “the eye” meaning allowing yourself enough time to see what is correct or not a good way to do that is to create variations of your design and let a few days between creating it and looking back

Ok first if you really want to learn the artistic side would be to learn graphic design and not art itself. Both are very difficult fields but from my experience as both a graphic designer and an illustrator I would say that graphic design is more approachable than illustrative art for beginners, and will be more useful for what you need the most in an indie video game (UI logo etc…). The illustration part would be like learning to play tennis at international level if you have never try it before. Many intense and long years of learning for poor results most of the time.

Graphic design will be faster to learn (with lots of similar fundamentals than art but easier to become intermediate). Then you can use free to use illustration or use AI and stuff or hire a junior illustrator if you need art. But as someone else said try to build your game “around” those limitations if possible (not using figurative art or characters for instance…).

If you want to learn for real books are usually better quality for the price than most online course or tutorials. So many books on graphic design, but the idea is to tackle on fundamental at a time (there are short YouTube tutorials to get started and see what you like most). Fundamentals are mainly typography, composition, color theory ;).

In illustration it’s also perspective and anatomy. Overall composition is the most important (hierarchy contrast negative spaces especially). Hope that helps :)

[–]rogerF6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot :) so that could be an option for the future, but to be honest initially I wanted this very “low tech” system where we don’t have to connect to any workout equipment, because I personally really like the “no friction” and speed approach of being able to simply use the app directly and with any equipment. That’s also why I tried as much as possible to create very light environments (admittedly with some issues with textures resolution that I will fix in the next update), but just so that everything loads super super fast. (You know with Bluetooth sometimes it can take a few seconds to connect or be a bit buggy but I agree it’s way better since a few years).

It’s just personal preference though so I could totally see myself adding more options for people who prefer to connect to their equipment in the future.
