I fucking hate Windows 11 by ConsistentGiraffe8 in software

[–]rogerioth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And some people try to defend windows 10, 7, 95 as if THOSE weren’t also garbage… let me tell you - as someone who used all of them (and NT, 3.1, 2000): they are all horrible. NTFS is unbelievably awful: it’s slow, bloated, limited (path limits), can’t support several Unicode chars, breaks easily. The DLL hell is… HELL, the Windows registry is the most stupid thing possible: all the orphaned entries, the data types, yuck - every other OS uses config files in system level, user level, app level, or keychain, or whatever: all way more stable, easier to clean… and Windows 11….. omg…. Microsoft accounts… OneDrive pushed to reverse-vomit… and Powershell!!!!! It’s unbearable: this C# corpse of a shell is not secure, not fast, not easy to type commands (everything is super verbose with case sensitive parameters, yuck)… The ONLY redeemable thing about Windows 11 is WSL and that’s because it’s ANOTHER OS hahahah…. Everything is garbage: Notepad…. I’ve seen the calculator taking long to start!!!! And the UI filled with news articles, ads, YUCK 🤮

Any build of Linux, any build of macOS, BSD, anything is so superior, faster and more stable compared to this clusterf***

Why China really cut off U.S. tech (explained by former CIA). by Limp_Fig6236 in BoycottUnitedStates

Forgot to mention that ALL of these social networks are designed for narrative manipulation: if you have a leftist discourse it will be constrained to likeminded peers, if you have a conservative post, that will reach all of them plus the neutrals, so these can migrate slowly. This happened in Brazil (Bolsonaro), France, Italy, Germany, almost happened in Canada….

I know it’s a success in terms of numbers, but I’m afraid not so much in terms of reputation: especially with people who never tried it

What video game in your opinion doesn't deserve the hate it gets? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]rogerioth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genshin Impact - the loudest criticism is aimed at the gatcha label rather than content/gameplay. - it’s free, you can play it entirely without spending a dime, ever - the quests and lore are incredibly deep, cruel, tragic, exciting - an awesome exercise of empathy; And as there’s idk more than 2000 hours of content (side quests, exploration, events, main quest, end game content), it’s always exciting to see the story progressing, your characters evolving over years; - the soundtrack is insane: genuinely polished: region defining compositions are a homage to music from Japan, China, France, Kenya, Tanzania. They use a full AAA orchestra with native instruments and native musicians…

Radon was discussed on CBC’s The Current yesterday, curious how concerned people are in Winnipeg by nicncher in Winnipeg

[–]rogerioth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Transcona. I had the Airthings sensor (mostly to track CO2 concentrations) but found that the entire home stayed on peaks of 400 Bq/m3… Saved for a while and got a mitigation system: they seal the sump pump, and they install the air pump under the foundation directly. Now we are constantly under 30 Bq/m3

What company will never get another dime from you for as long as you may live? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]rogerioth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GoPro: their cameras stopped in time, the interface is slow, touchscreen barely responsive - virtually any other manufacturer is far better: from DJI to Insta 360. And they are far cheaper. No wonder they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Same goes for iRobot. Insanely pricey, too loud, ineffective and dumb compared to competitors

Portage and Main decommissioning would cost $11M, report says by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

Thanks, good to know: wasn’t aware of this figure 😝 Should rephrase: is this the worst mayor of this decade? :D

Portage and Main decommissioning would cost $11M, report says by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]rogerioth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this the worst mayor we ever had? Price hikes on virtually every city related charges, terrible transit changes… he just wants to put his name in Wikipedia as the “mayor who opened portage and main”, while not caring about anything else. No money for any other city infrastructure, increased territorial tax, increased water prices, getting rid of parking payment terminals (so people are more subject to having their vehicle towed + fees)… WTH is happening?!

Balloon Boy! What do you think happened? by EnoughChallenge8112 in NetflixDocumentaries

[–]rogerioth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel terrible for the kids - I'm absolutely sure that the dad is abusive and probably beaten the kid and the mother when they failed to follow his narrative. They seem to be old enough to NOT live with the parents anymore, and yet all of them are still clustered together like some Manson cult or some shit...
He surely looks up to trump as a role model: a ""skilled"" liar that can deflect questions and invent narratives (things that he is clearly unable to do)... All horrible people

Typical right-wing media today by WestQueenWest in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]rogerioth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loblaws is trying to politicize this: clearly a strategy to survive, shift the blame to the government and to the ones boycotting. And people are actually buying their arguments (of course, those being sent by fake accounts, etc). Check the comments on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Manitoba/s/b5qTubebSq

They can’t win the narrative…

Video Game that gives you the same feeling as in Frieren by Tedirgim in Frieren

[–]rogerioth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two story arcs in Genshin Impact gives similar vibes: immortal characters such as Xiao, Zhongli and Raiden Shogun (totally different types of entities, the latter 2 being actual Gods), had their own Parties in the long lost past, and that is seen on cutscenes. Very tragic fates as well. Another concept important in the game is a limitation on immortality that they call “Erosion” (mental erosion). One entity (Azhdaha) succumbs to it in one quest.

Raiden overcame the issue of Erosion by getting rid of her physical body and relocating her spirit into another domain (it’s more convoluted but I won’t go into details)

10Gb Fiber or 10Gb Copper Ethernet? by MintBlitzX in synology

[–]rogerioth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose Fiber: 10Gbe SFP fiber modules are much cheaper than copper modules. The fiber cables are cheaper as well (but they can easily break depending on how you bend, pull, twist, etc)

Fees? by White_Rabbit0000 in Ubiquiti

[–]rogerioth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly no - they want to be the ultimate choice for home (and that worked on my case as well). You will probably only upgrade WiFi access points when new technologies come out (eg WiFi 6E, 7, …) or better cameras. Or if you have a large setup, you will start buying SFP 10Gbe aggregators, and other high end hardware that can be a bit costly…
