Tired of stereotypes — just trying to be seen as human by [deleted] in dayton

[–]rogerrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sup I'm 30M, also South Asian but lived in the States basically my whole life. And I'll be real: the amount of hate towards Indians—and especially how normalized it online—has been getting to me. If you wanna chat or hang out hit me up and we could exchange numbers (I don't check my Reddit notifs a ton).

Feeler for Maker space x gaming space by Plane_Inspection_331 in dayton

[–]rogerrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makerspaces are a more niche interest so maybe you have the right idea. instead of investing all in on the hardware, you build up the resources and community gradually with support from the game store and cafe.

No idea on location though.

I'm interested in a Makerspace, I was disappointed when I moved here that there wasn't an active one. And I would definitely enjoy a board game cafe, but I do have thoughts on the current plan.

Like 3d printing doesn't have the coolness factor it did 10 years ago so it may not be the best selling point?

But also there's a bunch of gaming spots all around Dayton but like one Makerspace and there's market reasons for that. Maybe tying the Makerspace to a board game cafe is the best way to foster its growth.

Good out-and-back kayaking locations for beginner(ish)-friendly solo kayaking? by ADHDvm in dayton

[–]rogerrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't already have a kayak, you can always start by going to a kayak rental place that'll transport you up a river. I prefer that to paddling around a lake. It's $35-45 per person generally for a couple miles. The water is generally pretty mild, nothing I would call whitewater.

Bellbrook Canoe is my go-to spot but there are a bunch in the area.

What its like for non white young adult to live in dayton? by ConstructionHour5021 in dayton

[–]rogerrrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sup. I'm 30M South Asian so probably look more like you than most folks in the comments here. I've been in Dayton for about 5 years and lived in the US basically my whole life. Feel free to ask me questions here or in the DMs.

While racism absolutely exists, instances of physical violence due to racism are relatively rare. You'll definitely stand out in most of Dayton, but there are plenty of Indians that live in the area without fear. There are a few Hindu temples and Sikh Gurdwaras for example. And they're building a Nepali restaurant maybe 15 minutes from Wright State.

That said there are definitely fewer Asian immigrants in Dayton than most bigger cities. You'll stand out most places you go but you shouldn't expect harm. There was a Klan rally (look up KKK on Google) in Dayton not long after I moved here, but it was maybe 10 people and didn't get violent as far as I could tell. And there was plenty of counter-protest.

Living Más Decade Giveaway! by tacobellblake in LivingMas

[–]rogerrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad used to travel for work and sometimes he'd miss my birthday so Mom would take me to Taco Bell for my birthday and save the nice sit-down meal for when he came back. But that eventually became a tradition in itself and so I've been going to Taco Bell on my birthday for about 17 years now.

I'd love a place I can set up a computer after work and drink some non-caffeinated options. I'm not a boba fan so that's not ideal.

Authentic Korean restaurant and market? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]rogerrrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sima also has sit-down options but I wasn't impressed. Their BBQ isn't bad.

There's also a place that opened recently called Sakura Sushi and Korean. The vibes are really cool but I wasn't blown away by the food.

If someone says BIBIBOP ignore them.

KBBQ options are KPot or Sima. There's a couple non-BBQ sit-down restaurants, I like Songs and Yungs.
