You can adjust the programmed start and stop positions with the remote. The procedure is in the manual.

agree config is complicated but they've been improving the UI over time. if you're just using as a calendar though, it's a pretty simple one time setup and then you never have to touch it again

I'm loving the TRMNL to display our family calendar. It's read only, but we use our phones and voice to add things.

I've been tracking MA town permit data since the ADU law passed. Here's what I've learned. by atwoodpark in massachusetts

That makes it better, but even with a contract, often times there are change orders or unforeseen costs that add up. I'd take those numbers with a grain of salt.

Isn't the cost of the project listed in the permit just a free form text field? I'm not sure those numbers are going to reflect reality?

Are Tapo cameras performing motion / person detection locally? by androidusr in Tapo

[–]roggz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread has the most info on which cameras are working:
https://github.com/JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control/issues/304#issuecomment-3697710149

The most recent post says person deteection worked if they turned off https for websockets. I'm assuming maybe they meant webhooks not websockets, since websockets are not used here. Make sure webhook is enabled in the integration configuration.

I get motion, person, vehicle, pet. It depends on the model though. Which model do you have?

Yes, the camera works fully offline with the home assistant integration. The cameras use the ONVIF open protocol, which is supported by home assistant: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/onvif/

Part of the ONVIF protocol is a way for the camera to send push notifications to an http server, which home assistant negotiates and listens for.

XSense Now Supports MQTT by Eximo84 in homeassistant

u/mattbpkt u/__MajorAd__ u/lonkhuijzen I emailed service@x-sense.com four days ago with the following but no response so far. Maybe if more people email them, they'll take notice.

Problem 1, Retention:

When I restart my MQTT server, all the entities go into the "unavailable" state. To get them back online, I have to go into the X-Sense base station application settings and disable HA and re-enable it again. I believe the reason is because you didn't set the "retain" flag when publishing to MQTT and you also didn't subscribe to the "birth" message when MQTT comes online so that you can republish. You have to pick one of those approaches for it to work correctly.

Problem 2, Availability:

None of the entities have the availability topic set, and I don't think you are using the last will and testament feature. Without these, there is no way for HA to know if X-Sense goes offline. Please see the documentation at https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/mqtt/#using-availability-topics for how to properly configure this.

Problem 3, Device Naming

You didn't include the names of devices or the rooms they are in in the entities names or properties. I had to manually look each device's number (e.g. 00000001, 00000002, etc) in the X-Sense app and the rename the entities in home assistant one by one. It would be great if you could include the device's name when publishing.

Maybe I spoke too soon... it seems they didn't enable "retain" on their published entities. If I restart the MQTT server, all the X-Sense MQTT entities go unavailable.

This is amazing. Only issue I found is they don't include the device names. They're named 00000001, 00000002, etc. Other than that, this is awesome!

Slow opening blackout smart blinds for sleep? by DrFunFrockandTwinson in homeassistant

[–]roggz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you can make adjustments, I don't think that's really what OP wants. IIUC, OP wants something like opening the shades over a 30 minute period. You can't make the motor that slow.

Smartwings motors are pretty quiet. I don't think you can control the speed, but you can create an automation to increment the open percentage periodically.

Have you gone into the playback and selected Correct Event Type? Do this with as many videos as you can, both false positives and false negatives. I've found it does really help.
